No way Baltimore would give up Lowen and Roberts together for Wells. Especially because they are getting great production from Corey Patterson right now, so CF isn't a position of need for them.

I wouldn't trade Wells within the division to have him come back and burn us 16 or whatever times a season.

Very wishful thinking, but no, sorry.

The O's have a stupid owner in Peter Angelos, but even he won't pull the trigger on that trade. They're not giving up 2 of their top prospects and a .300 hitter to risk having Wells walk out on them (yes, I see your assumption, I can read, but I say 'risk' ;)).

Casey Janssen is highly overrated. He isn't even worth nearly as much as Dustin McGowan as a prospect, and neither of them has shown they're major-league worthy yet.

I was just looking at what Tampa got for Lugo, considering the fact that he will be a FA, and that just made me increase Wells value even more.

Basically Tejada was whining last year that he wants the team to improve and this move will improve the team.

Face it, Baltimore, like many other teams in the league, needs pitching if they want to contend. Their rotation is too young and inexperienced. Even with Mazzone there, the rotation still needs a couple of years to develop (Cabrera needs to learn how to pitch instead of throw, and the closest thing they've got to an ace is Erik Bedard). Wells is not going to instantly turn the Orioles into a pennant contender, especially if you consider what the Yanks and Sox have up there. They're only going to get better, not worse, one guy isn't going to make a world of difference for Baltimore. And what are they going to do with Corey Patterson?

And so what if Wells is going to be a FA? That hardly increased his trade value. If anything, the situation surrounding him will DROP his value. If word leaks that Wells wants out (and people can already surmise that he doesn't really want to stay, ala the ESPN report), then the GMs will just offer prospects for him because they know they can make a bid for him when Wells walks.

Oh yeah, and I can sense that Tejada won't be an Oriole much longer... at least if Angelos doesn't make the decision on it. The Angels tried to offer a package with Ervin Santana for him, but Angelos is too blockheaded to pull the trigger on the deal. If I was him, I would've done the deal in a heartbeat to get a top young pitcher.
