OK time is marching on. There are a number of GMs saying they want back in in the #5 thread, but we need to reconfirm here.
This is also time to make any draft rule changes. I believe the only change offered last time was dropping the 3rd goalie.
Current rules see a draft of 3 G, 7 D and 13 F with a coach for a 24 round draft. With an optional minor draft to follow for the last 2 drafts. With a snake format, a 24 hour clock and trading allowed.
Also when to start? This week is too soon, but next week or the week after?
Confirmed List
1 - BM67 - New Jersey Devils
2 - Hedberg - Victoria Salmon Kings
3 - God Bless Canada - Trail Smoke Eaters
4 - Hockey Outsider - Montreal Canadiens
5 - reckoning - Buffalo Sabres
6 - Evil Speaker - Boston Bruins
7 - The Great Elvi - Vancouver Blazers
8 - Zetterberg4Captain - Saskatoon Blues

19 - Transplanted Caper - Halifax Schooners
20 - Leaf Lander - Toronto Maple Leafs
Hedberg 09-05-2006, 09:23 PM I'm in again. My team will be the Victoria Salmon Kings
God Bless Canada 09-05-2006, 09:28 PM I've been waiting two months to see this thread. Damn right I'll be back for All-Time Draft #6. The Trail Smoke Eaters will return. The last all-time draft was easily the most fun I've ever had on HF Boards. There's nothing I enjoy more than pitting my hockey knowledge against those who know as much, or even more, about the greats who have played this game. Hopefully the vast majority of the outstanding GMs from the last draft will be back, as well as a couple top notch newbies who have recently joined and have been wonderful additions to the History of Hockey section.
I have no qualms about the third goalie. I'd keep the third goalie in. Make us do our research.
As for a start date: next week sounds great to me. But it doesn't matter. You could start it in two hours, and I'd be ready. Just looking forward to it.
Hockey Outsider 09-05-2006, 09:29 PM I'm in, and I'll take the Canadiens again. Thanks.
Zetterberg4Captain* 09-05-2006, 09:58 PM Saskatoon Blues here!
shawnmullin 09-05-2006, 10:06 PM I'd love to do this
Call me the Blackburn Stingers
reckoning 09-05-2006, 10:09 PM I`m in. Buffalo Sabres will be my team.
Frightened Inmate #2 09-05-2006, 10:29 PM Well I have been in these since the beginnings - save #5 but that can be excused as I was traveling through Europe. But if I am allowed to be in this draft I would like to be either the Vancouver Blazers or the Calgary Cowboys.
Hey the WHA might have turned into a goon league but they had some great names in doing so.
Evil Speaker 09-05-2006, 11:04 PM I'd love to join.
I've been an avid reader of the past All-Time drafts and the hockey history forum in general and because of it, I have learned alot. So it would be a pleasure if I could join in on the fun with some of the brightest hockey minds on the boards.
My team name if available will be the Boston Bruins.
Murphy 09-05-2006, 11:40 PM Well I'm far from an expert on hockey history but I love doing these......I'm in!:handclap:
Rule changes, I'm game for maybe increasing the number of teams. I think it'll make it a little more tough for us digging up gems in the later rounds.
I also think maybe the 24 hr limit is to long, I'd like to see 12 max, maybe even 6?
But whatever the rules are I'll play nice, I'll take the Edmonton Oilers again.
Murphy 09-05-2006, 11:52 PM Zetterburg used to be AG, other than his questionable taste in a hockey team he's done a good job on a couple of these drafts.
I'd love to see Shawnmullin in, he's a excellent poster and has much better taste in hockey teams.
I'd like to extend an invitation to ClassicHockey, Trottier and wetcoaster if I may?
Zetterberg4Captain* 09-05-2006, 11:53 PM How come im under review? I used to be ofhdhdy and AG and I have participated in All time draft #3, 4 and 5!
kruezer 09-06-2006, 12:06 AM Count me in.
Seattle Metropolitans.
God Bless Canada 09-06-2006, 01:36 AM Well I'm far from an expert on hockey history but I love doing these......I'm in!:handclap:

I think six hours might be a little challenging to pull off. I'm not going to wake up after six hours of sleep to check whether it's my turn.
However, a 12-hour, or even a 15-hour or 18-hour limit, might be appropriate. If we do have an increase in the number of teams, then the time limit might have to be reduced, or this thing could drag on until Christmas.
raleh 09-06-2006, 02:02 AM I'm in, and I'll be the Montreal Maroons.
pitseleh 09-06-2006, 02:03 AM I'm a newbie here, but I would be extremely interested in joining if you will have me. I'm no hockey expert, but I'd definitely be committed to making this work :)
If so, I'll take the Nanaimo Clippers.
VanIslander 09-06-2006, 08:44 AM :bb: :bb: I did #3 and #4 but had commitments that kept me out of #5. I'm in for #6.
As the 5th team to sign up representing a British Columbian community :bb: :bb:
Burnaby Mountaineers
Wisent 09-06-2006, 09:56 AM Can I join? I`d like to have the Quebec Citadelles.
I'm in too. Spartak Moscow http://fotw.vexillum.com/images/r/ru@sparh.gif
anguscertified 09-06-2006, 10:59 AM I'd love to be in again (jtuzzi from the last draft).
For my team, I'll take another team that got moved (I was Minnesota last draft).
- Hartford Whalers.
pappyline 09-06-2006, 11:35 AM I would like to join again. I be another old OHA team from the 50's-Hamilton Tiger Cubs
Spitfire11 09-06-2006, 11:39 AM Sadly, I must finally decline on participating in the all-time draft :(
I'll still stop by and give some input from time to time. Hopefully I'll return for the next one.

Frick. Haven't you been part of every all-time draft since its inception? Damn we'll miss you. Next thing we know, Leaf Lander will drop out. (I'm assuming we automatically save a spot for LL?) I do look forward to you dropping by with some feedback.
But at least we have 12 GMs back from the last draft. (13 if LL returns). And VanIslander and Elvi/Maxwell Edison/Maxwell Smart are back, too. (How was backpacking in Europe, Elvi?) I've been impressed with Evil Speaker's recent contributions to this part of the forum. Don't know much about the other rookies. Should be fun, even though Spit will be missing.
Transplanted Caper 09-06-2006, 12:38 PM If there's a spot open I'd love to get involved in this. If so, count me in for the Halifax Schooners
raleh 09-06-2006, 02:18 PM I say we retire the red wings for this draft in memory of spitfire!
Murphy 09-06-2006, 02:57 PM I'm not going to wake up after six hours of sleep to check whether it's my turn.
Yes you would, you know you would.....
God Bless Canada 09-06-2006, 03:05 PM I say we retire the red wings for this draft in memory of spitfire!
I don't know if "in memory" is the term I'd be using. But I think it'd be a fitting tribute. Spitfire's the only GM who should ever be allowed to use the team name "Detroit Red Wings," just like BM67 is the only person who should be able to use "New Jersey Devils" and Leaf Lander's the only guy who should be allowed to use "Toronto Maple Leafs." This draft wouldn't exist without those three guys.
Speaking of LL, where the heck is he? Normally he's announced his intentions to have a team, he's announced he'll be the Leafs, and he's added 10 new entries to the bio page.
Leaf Lander 09-06-2006, 07:14 PM im in im the leafs
raleh 09-06-2006, 07:54 PM haha ok, in honour of spit.
Leaf Lander 09-06-2006, 08:48 PM Ill update the bio thread once my punishments end
i been tied up udner these most of the sumemr
thus my slackness.
i cannto edite posts thus no work can be doen on the bio thread
VanIslander 09-07-2006, 07:50 AM We could predetermine two conferences and four divisions, five teams per division, for 20 teams total... with four teams from each division making the "playoffs" (poll) or else one team getting a bye.
For instance, the B.C. division:
Hedberg - Victoria Salmon Kings
God Bless Canada - Trail Smoke Eaters
The Great Elvi - Vancouver Blazers
pitseleh - Nanaimo Clippers
VanIslander - Burnaby Mountaineers
Frightened Inmate #2 09-07-2006, 01:23 PM I do like the division idea but if I may - lets take a page out of the old NHL book and name the divisions with something more lively than the geographical regions where the teams reside. I propose something along the lines of...
Spitfire Division
reckoning - Buffalo Sabres
Evil Speaker - Boston Bruins
shawnmullin - Blackburn Stingers
pitseleh - Nanaimo Clippers
VanIslander - Burnaby Mountaineers
LL Division
Hockey Outsider - Montreal Canadiens
Leaf Lander - Toronto Maple Leafs
raleh - Montreal Maroons
murray - Hamilton Tiger Cubs
Wisent - Quebec Citadelles
Trottier Division
God Bless Canada - Trail Smoke Eaters
The Great Elvi - Vancouver Blazers
Murphy2 - Edmonton Oilers
Transplanted Caper - Halifax Schooners
Hedberg - Victoria Salmon Kings
BM Division (well we might have to work on that one)
BM67 - New Jersey Devils
Zetterberg4Captain - Saskatoon Blues
kruezer - Seattle Metropolitans
#66 - Spartak Moscow
HankyFourFingers - Hartford Whalers
Four even divisions - some fun little things to (Leaf Lander being in the Quebec division!)
God Bless Canada 09-07-2006, 01:55 PM A division named after me? Not that I'm declining, but what'd I do to deserve this? This is only my second draft. If anything, name it after kreuzer, or Lone Elvi (or whatever you're calling yourself now), or a guy who's been around for three or four drafts. But divisions would be fun. BM, LL and Spit would be very deserving namees.
Finding a way to have a playoff, based on peer evaluations, would be great. (Or we could go to some of the other knowledgeable posters not in this draft: Spitfire, Ogopogo, ClassicHockey, trottier, John Flyers Fan, etc., who would rate the teams). I wouldn't go to the poll and petition board - most of those posters have little idea about the history of the game, and that's what we're celebrating here.
I love the look of this draft. I believe we have 13 of 17 GMs returning from the last draft. Good to have Elvi and VanIslander back. Evil Speaker has impressed since he started posting in this forum. Don't know much about the other four guys. If Murphy2 thinks shawnmullin would be a good addition, that's good enough for me. Besides, it's always good to have another dread of society, I mean a media member, in this pool. To the rookies: welcome. You're going to have a lot of fun. You're also going to learn a lot. I know I did in my first draft.

Great and thanks. I think I will have fun.:)
In addition; I really like the idea of divisions.
raleh 09-07-2006, 03:06 PM oh man...I'm in a division with LL, Murray, and Hockey Outsider? I hope there's not too much division play!
pitseleh 09-07-2006, 04:24 PM To the rookies: welcome. You're going to have a lot of fun. You're also going to learn a lot. I know I did in my first draft.
Thanks, I've been a long time reader, and I just found my password for this site again. The HoH forum here is amazing, and I know this draft will be a ton a fun. I'm really looking forward to it. :)
VanIslander 09-07-2006, 06:22 PM In addition to a natural 5-team B.C. division there could be
a natural 5-team U.S. division:
reckoning - Buffalo Sabres
Evil Speaker - Boston Bruins
BM67 - New Jersey Devils
kruezer - Seattle Metropolitans
HankyFourFingers - Hartford Whalers
and a natural 5-team Central Canada division:
Hockey Outsider - Montreal Canadiens
Leaf Lander - Toronto Maple Leafs
raleh - Montreal Maroons
murray - Hamilton Tiger Cubs
Wisent - Quebec Citadelles
The only division without a natural name would be:
Zetterberg4Captain - Saskatoon Blues
Murphy2 - Edmonton Oilers
Transplanted Caper - Halifax Schooners
shawnmullin - Blackburn Stingers
#66 - Spartak Moscow
The Fringe Division? ;) the Prairie Global division? the... ?
Leaf Lander 09-07-2006, 07:02 PM geographically im in the east baby
right on the shores of the atlantic
Murphy 09-07-2006, 10:41 PM geographically im in the east baby
right on the shores of the atlantic
Well, I'm way west, and north, and.....on the banks of the Peace River......
Great idea on divisions VanIslander, it should spark some interesting debate as the draft proceeds.
I'm ready for it to get underway anytime.
OK. I guess we're set with 20 teams.
I do like the division idea. When we're done we can rate the teams in each division head to head, (Team A vs Team B, 4 games, 2 home/2 road, how many points will team A get in the series?) giving division rankings. Then the top 3 teams wait while the bottom 2 teams playoff in a prelim match against the others. Or something like that.
I'll make the draft thread on Saturday, and the draft can start on Sunday.
Here's the draft order if anybody wants to work out trades.
1 - Evil Speaker - Boston Bruins
2 - VanIslander - Burnaby Mountaineers
3 - Hockey Outsider - Montreal Canadiens
4 - Leaf Lander - Toronto Maple Leafs
5 - Transplanted Caper - Halifax Schooners
6 - Zetterberg4Captain - Saskatoon Blues
7 - Murphy2 - Edmonton Oilers
8 - BM67 - New Jersey Devils
9 - raleh - Montreal Maroons
10 - Hedberg - Victoria Salmon Kings
11 - shawnmullin - Blackburn Stingers
12 - pitseleh - Nanaimo Clippers
13 - God Bless Canada - Trail Smoke Eaters
14 - Wisent - Quebec Citadelles
15- kruezer - Seattle Metropolitans
16 - murray - Hamilton Tiger Cubs
17 - reckoning - Buffalo Sabres
18 - The Great Elvi - Vancouver Blazers
19 - #66 - Spartak Moscow
20 - HankyFourFingers - Hartford Whalers
Hockey Outsider 09-07-2006, 10:51 PM oh man...I'm in a division with LL, Murray, and Hockey Outsider? I hope there's not too much division play!
I was going to say the same thing...
Looking forward to Sunday. Thanks to BM for organizing this, once again, and to everybody for signing up.

Spitfire11 09-08-2006, 12:01 AM Good luck everyone, looks like another great group of GMs.
The whole division idea is good and should make the draft even better.
Nice to see 'maxwell/edison/the lone elvi' and vanislander back again after missing the last draft. Sure to be plenty of debates with those two around :D
Frightened Inmate #2 09-08-2006, 10:57 AM 18 - The Great Elvi - Vancouver Blazers

So how was your summer? Hey and you know the type of people I was able to meet!

Frightened Inmate #2 09-08-2006, 05:53 PM Well it should run from Early June/Late may into August so around 75-100 days. I am still working out the itenerary and getting all of that organized but it should be the trip of a lifetime and after the rockies it will be the only time I will be thankful to see the flat praries.
VanIslander 09-08-2006, 10:28 PM Boston Bruins with the first overall pick.... hmmmm... who is the greatest talent ever? what would a bruins fan say?.... wait, I'm thinking...
My Mountaineers select second overall, am happy with any of the top three picks. Fourth even. Anything but fifth (NO consensus about the fifth best hockey player ever).
POTENTIAL TRADE OFFER:
Mountaineer's 1st rounder (the 2nd overall) + 4th rounder + 8th rounder
for any team's
1st,2nd,10th rounders
(makes some sense for those at the bottom of the order if interested PM me)
