It hasn't been mentioned yet, but both Josh Gorges and Steve Bernier have been selected to represent their leagues (WHL and QMJHL respectively) against team Russia in the CHL/Russia Challenge which gets underway later this week.
Bernier should be playing on Thursday (the 20th) and Monday (the 24th).
Gorges should be playing on Wednesday (11/26) and Thursday (11/27).

You know, I don't see Gorges listed on this roster list, but I see Bernier:

Sorry, I realized my mistake.
But is Gorges that good?
Is he a candidate to be on the Barons next year?
What are hs strengths and weaknesses?
His profile on this site doesn't really have those thigns.

Gorges skates well, Great balance. Good on the powerplay and the point. Reminds me a bit of Ehrhoff and Preissing. Good with the puck, But needs work without it basically. Yes I could see him being with the Barons next year. As well as Maatta.

And what is up with this Maata guy? It seems like he doesn't even want to come over to North America.
Why is it taking him so long? I realize he had the military thing, but he was like a '98 draft choice or something and his numbers from Finaland aren't even that great.
Anyone know anything about him?

He wants to play in NA but I think he had to go back to Finland because he had a contract agreement with them or something. His numbers from Finland aren't great because A) He's a defenseman B) He's more of a stay at home defenseman and C) I believe he was a #6 Dman last season and recieved little ice time. I could be wrong.

He had a military commitment too a few years ago.

Gorges is the best defenseman on Kelowna (his Junior team) this year, and he's the team captain. Last year he put up more points because the Rockets had a better overall team, but this year they're (by far) the best defensive team in the WHL using their trap. Seems like he'll fit right in here.
As said he's a good skater, and solid all around. He needs to get bigger to play in the NHL, but he seems a sure bet for Cleveland once he leaves the WHL. Good signing last year by Lombardi.
