FLAMESFAN 11-19-2003, 11:52 AM Could we have iced a competative team? I think so......
I don't have time to do the research, but off the top of my head
Forwards: Mullen, Gilmour, Fleury, MacDonald, Titov, Makarov, Otto....
DFence: Suter, Smith, Albelin, Zalapski.....
Goal: Vernon
I don't know who would have been willing to play, but I think it could have been done
C Bass 11-19-2003, 12:20 PM Roberts, Nieuwendyk(sp), MacInnis.
Half of our team would still be active.

Well, I know Messier is playing, but.........Maybe it should only be for guys out of the league (at least that's what I'm looking for)
Pepper would definetly play - for all you young guys out there that's Peplinski
Hitman* 11-19-2003, 03:42 PM I'd like to see us bring Hakan Loob over if we did do one.
Same with Kent Nilsson

Yeah, we'd have to have Loob & Nilsson for sure. What about Jamie MacCoun, Ric Natress, Colin Patterson, Brian MacLellan, Rick Wamsley & Mike Bullard.
OYLer 11-19-2003, 04:31 PM Yeah, we'd have to have Loob & Nilsson for sure. What about Jamie MacCoun, Ric Natress, Colin Patterson, Brian MacLellan, Rick Wamsley & Mike Bullard. Dave Hunter who was honoured at our last home game against the Hawks the same night as your overtime win against the Leafs made some observations. Before the game he was on a local radio talk show and made a big point of naming all of the great Flame players who Edmonton faced during those great Battle of Alberta Series.
Hunter further noted that because the Flames were always one of the best three or four teams in hockey during that stretch was the main reason that the Oilers had so much success. It was only because Edmonton had to beat Calgary's great teams that they developed into a great team themshelves. He stated the Oilers felt that the real Stanley Cup was won by both teams when they played and lost or defeated each other. Although the Flames didn't win as many Cups, Calgary iced great teams for that ten year period, and he and his teammates in Edmonton had only tremendous respect for those Flames' players.

I would still love to see the old Flames playing (and beating :yo: )the old Oilers.
If Pepper and Hunter were iced, and with that Defence, you can guarentee it wouldn't be no ***** old timers game!
FLAMESFAN 11-19-2003, 04:53 PM (think of a young cat..............)
Stifler 11-19-2003, 05:42 PM Goalies: Lemelin, Vernon
D-Men: Suter, McInnis, Reinhart, Albelin
Forwards: Otto, Loob, Mullen, McDonald, Peplinski, Gilmour, Fleury

Jim Peplinski & Mark Hunter could handle Semenko & McSorley. Then, we'd have to ice Neil Sheehy to unnerve Gretzky.
Zhackpot 11-20-2003, 06:44 AM Phil Russell, Paul Reinhart, Pekka Rautakellio, Guy Chuinard, Eddy Beers, Richard Kromm is just down the hall. Nick Fotiu, Steve Konroyd, John Tonelli, Don Lever, Bob MacMillian, ( the reason Lanny was a Flame!), Eric Vail, Willie Plett, Bill Clement, Pat Riggin, Mel Bridgeman, Ken Houston, Doug Risebrough, Kevin Lavalle(maybe the hardest shot in the league at that time but couldn't consistently keep it below the glass, I remember him dinging one off the portrait of the Queen in the Corral),
Brad Marsh, Dan Quinn, Steve Tambellini, Paul Baxter, Carey Wilson, Jiri Hrdina, Dana Murzyn, Frank Musil. And these are just the ones I can remember as they come to me. Oh the memories of the glory years.
FLAMESFAN 11-20-2003, 09:06 AM But realistically, how many of these guys would still be able to skate at a good level?
There's a good bunch to chose from, so I'm sure we'd have a team that could rival the best retired teams out there.
