Kipper got a home win for the Flames tonight, stopping 22 out of 23 (.950+ save percentage!) for the win. He now has one more home win than the entire Sharks team. Go get 'em, Kipper! :D

Hockeycrazed07 11-22-2003, 09:48 PM Kipper 2, Vesa 1, and Nabby 0. I see a trend... ~Crazed. CalgaryThrasher 11-22-2003, 09:57 PM He's beev pretty rusty too, yet has been dynamite. Thanks San Jose! Kevin Wey 11-23-2003, 07:08 AM Thanks Calgary! I just want to see Miikka succeed, even if that's with another NHL team. I guess after Sabourin's shakey NHL performances, Calgary had to get Kiprusoff. Now, what'll happen when Turek returns, I don't know. I personally wanted Vesa and Miikka as San Jose's two goalies, but Doug Wilson did as good as can be expected on the Kiprusoff trade. (This was because of Nabby's superior trade value over the summer, and just my personal bias towards Vesa and Miikka.) MarleuFan 11-23-2003, 08:56 AM Thanks Calgary! Kevin, how cme you are not concerned about Toskala's lack of size - 5'9 I think he could be "solved" by shoting high and over him. Also, how come you are not concerned about Kipprusoff's instability when he was given the number one rle for a while? Hockeycrazed07 11-23-2003, 09:11 AM Why do Sharks fans say that Kipper started out tough last year and say nothing about Nabby, who has played weaker opponents and has a similar record this year? ~Crazed. Kevin Wey 11-23-2003, 11:54 AM While Toskala is not a large goalie, and does go down more than Nabokov, he isn't a flopper. Vesa is in control, but he will get down lower in his butterfly. If the defensemen do their job, it won't be a problem. (As a general rule, I assess less blame to goalies than to defensemen and forwards.) Also, if we like semi-stand-up butterfly goalies (and I do, this is why I like Miikka) there is Patzold and also Ehelechner on the way. I haven't seen any German goalie worth anything who was a flopper. Miikka had some rough games last year, but the defense was terrible. There's only so much goalies can do. It took a while for Kiprusoff to get his confidence back, and then he got injured... Generally speaking, over his career, Kiprusoff hasn't been an unstable goalie, either in the AHL or Finland. I think he'll be solid back-up netminder for Calgary, and heck, maybe he'll fulfill his potential and become a frontrunner in the surge in Finnish goaltending. (Think about it: Lehtonen, Nurminen, Toskala, Kiprusoff, Hurme, Noronen, Ahonen and Toivonen...among others, I probably forgot somebody important :) ) I'd blame Rathje's identity crisis post-Sutter, Stuart's injuries, and McLaren's adaptation period before I'd blame any goalie outright. This is similar? Nabby 2003 15 games 2.69GAA .906sv Kipper 2002 22 games 3.25GAA .879sv Hockeycrazed07 11-23-2003, 09:44 PM Similar is numbers against similar opponents. Kipper was losing to the likes of Detroit, Colorado, and Vancouver early last year. When has Nabby played Detroit this year, for example? Also, a number of those 22 games Kipper played last year were after weeks on the bench. I'd like to see anybody sit on the bench for weeks at a time and come out flying. The fact that Kipper has done so for his new team in Calgary is a testament to massive amounts of adrenaline and his work ethic. The deal should work out well for both teams (pending SJ's draft moves, which I haven't been a fan of, obviously). I must say that Kevin and I agree that Kipper should have gotten some ice in SJ, and for the two of us to agree means quite a bit. He's better than the average Joe fan at the Tank would say he is, though there are still many that didn't like Rat when he was poking the puck off of people's sticks (which is another thing that Kevin and I agree on). ~Crazed. Edit: I said in my post that the records were similar, which you didn't even mention, so I don't see why I posted that, but since I did, I'll leave it up. | ||
