I know alot of these posts come up and they usually do not come to anything, but I thought I would start a Thread on it anyway. This is from www.letsgowings.com
The New York Post and Florida Sun-Sentinel reported in today’s edition (11/20/03) that the Red Wings had scouts – most notably former head coach Scotty Bowmen – taking in Wednesday night’s game between the New York Islanders and the Florida Panthers.
Both clubs are looking to cut salary, with the Islanders most active in that department by waiving Jason Weimer last week. The Isles are looking to trim $7 million off the payroll.
Pretty interesting. I don't really know if I would like Detroit to be trading partners with either of these two teams, but I have listed the players from each team I would like to see in the "Winged Wheel". I know some of these players would never be dealt but anyways.
From New York Islanders:
C Michael Peca (NHL)
C Justin Papineau (AHL)
RW Mark Parrish (NHL)
RW Jeremy Colliton (WHL)
From Flordia:
C Viktor Kozlov (NHL)
LW Gregory Campbell (NHL/AHL)
D Filip Novak (AHL)
D Lukas Krajicek (AHL)
RW Rob Globke (AHL or Collage)
RW Anthony Stewart (OHL)
That all, any coments?

I don't know.
zetterberg40 11-21-2003, 09:43 AM The only player i see us looking at is Peca
CREW99AW 11-21-2003, 11:27 AM Cups4wings I saw your post on the nyi board,your proposal: Hamrlik for Hudler,Dandenult(sp)+4th?
Hamrlik's a ufa in July 2005.He has told his rep to get an extension done asap.
I don't see MM having interest in 5'9,5'10 Hudler, especially with the way he's struggled with the Wings this yr.Wasn't he just demoted?
Last summer at the 2003 draft, both TB and Toronto asked for Hamrlik.
MM told TB that either 6'3 Svitov or 6'5 Alexeev would have to be the key to any deal.
Milbury told Toronto that 6'5 Antropov would have to be in any Hamrlik or Jonsson deal.

these are the players the nyi beatwriters say are the ones the team would look to move.
Weimer-$1.6m gone.
Parrish-$2.3m.Rumored to be headed for Chi.
Cairns-$900,000.Rumored to be headed for Chi.
Timmander-$1.2m
Scatchard-$1.3m
I'm not a Papineau fan.He's too soft imo,but the
Isles would not move a cheap salary like Papineau-$495,000 or a prospect like Jeremy Colliton. He doesn't have to be signed for 2 yrs, isn't costing them anything from the budget.
and although I've proposed Peca trades,I doubt they'd take the pr/attendance hit by moving Peca.

Come on, Hudler's close to 6'5"...
I think the wings would go after a big center, rather than pay for a defenseman.
Also, Hudler was demoted because he has to get used to the NHL game, and Lewis was only giving him about 5 minutes a game...thats why you never noticed him, he was never out there.

Considering Lewis has no idea how to play him I wouldn't call it a demotion, I would call it a chance for Hudler to get a lot more playing time and time to get used to the NA surface.

Sorry, but thats a very bad proposal, to whoever made that...
In all honesty we dont need another defensemen....
TomHBlain 11-21-2003, 12:47 PM Come on, Hudler's close to 6'5"...
hahahah, if he is standing on a 3-foot stool. Funny man...
But seriously, we need a center and a d-man so it looks like Peca or Cairns would be Wings-bait. Cairns IS rumored along with Parrish to be headed to Chicago, but those rumors nothing has happened yet, which makes me think it could die off soon.
Personally I wouldnt mind taking a shot at Parrish, even though RW isn't a pressing need. He showed tons of potential 2 years ago. Peca would be a great defensive pick-up, and we are short at center, but he has looked pretty bad this year as well. Who knows what a change of scenery does.
Coffey77 11-21-2003, 01:51 PM hudler + dandenault for Hamrlik is an ok deal but Wings don't have any need for Hamrlik. They already have Chelios, Lidstrom, Schneider and Fischer as the top 4. And Hatcher the 5th guy. They could use a physical defensive d-man for the 3rd pairing but Hamrlik is overkill.
Only guy I see them going after is Peca. He's not big but he's great defensively and can hit. And a very good 2 way player.
Winger98 11-21-2003, 03:24 PM Scatchard-$1.3m
What are the Isles looking for in return? I'd love to see Scatchard on the Wings.

Dandenault and Devereaux??? :joker: :joker:
Hudler
Williams
Devereaux-1.3 mill, probably not...
Dandenault
Kopecky
thats about all the wings can afford to trade about now, so pick something.
probably get a better deal elsewhere.

Id rather see us take out hudler and replace him with Backer and someone else... Maybe MacIntyre... I wanna wait on hudler, he's got skill, lots of it
CREW99AW 11-22-2003, 02:11 AM What are the Isles looking for in return? I'd love to see Scatchard on the Wings.
Unlike Weimer,Parrish,Timmander and Cairns, Dave Scatchard's hasn't been linked to any teams this season.
His name was bought up by one of the beatwriters because he has good trade value and the isles have several younger, cheaper kids.
Boston press says the Isles walked away from the Jason Allison deal with the B's because they wouldn't deal Scatchard.
and Mckenzie(tsn.ca) reported in July 2002 the isles nixed the Derek Morris for Scatchard+Izzy deal although I think that was more because they were thin at forward with Peca out.
The guy at Spector's recently wrote, the Thrashers cooled to trade talks with the nyi despite needing a scorer(Parrish),leading the writer to speculate that MM had asked for Coburn.
Waddell last yr expressed in in Scatchard.I could see the Isles packaging him to get a stud defensive prospect.

over a week ago one of your posters offered Hudler in a proposal to the isles and i checked his prospect page profile.
Wings hf prospects page writer, describes his upside as a potential Robert Reichel.
We had Reichel on LI for several seasons. He was a soft goal scorer, who bought little defense, and zero grit.
Isles have Yashin,Peca,Scatchard,Bates,Bergenheim,Kvasha,Mapl etoft and Papineau all centers.

Hudler is not much like Reichel at all.
He goes to the net and makes plays in the corners, all the while taking a beating.
I think he meant in terms of offensive output that Hudler could become a good 50-60 point guy (like Reichel) who is nothing special in the defensive end.

The problem is, we have to give a little to get a little. I mean does Backer have a future in the NHL? :dunno: I thought he has sort of taken a step back in his development this year. I wouldn't be suprised if he never never sniffs an NHL arena. Same with MacIntyre. MacDonald is looking 10x better than MacIntyre now (that is if I have my Mac's straight). I dont think we can pawn our crappy prospects on another team that easily.
Right now... I would trade Hudler to get something we need right now. I think Hudler is best used as an asset with high potential than to be used as piece of the Red Wing future. If we can get a good power forward, or another center who can create opportunities (hopefully not too old, late 20s, early 30s) i would be happy with that deal. The wings have enough skilled playmakers and they are all bigger than Hudler (Datsyuk, Zetterberg) and I think they both have a better future than Hudler. There is also a good chance that, with his size, it would take a long time before we realize "what we've got" with Hudler. Another 3 years maybe?
Maybe I am being impatient, but if the Wings can use Hudler as a trade asset to balance this team, I would be all for it.

How does he have any more value today then when he was passed up by so many teams in the draft? He hasn't shown much yet in NA obviously, give him time.

Good point. I think there might be some out there that still see him as an offensive asset. He was ranked high (top 15) on most draft boards before the draft. I can't imagine his stock has climbed much since then, but who knows.

The Wings might be able to flip him rather than a 1st or 2nd. I think anything that doesn't put money on the other team's payroll next season will carry more value on the trade market than they have in the past.
