Oh the Cubs. I really don't think Lou is what this teams needs, Girardi probably would have been a better fit
advantage2006 10-16-2006, 06:20 PM Ya i agree.I think either Girardi or if they waited a little longer Macha would be good managers. Both know how to use their young kids and are smart managers.
Bruinaholic 10-16-2006, 07:06 PM I wonder if this increases the interest in bringing Arod to Wrigley?
I can see the Cubs sending a package involving a few young guys(LHP Marshall,CF Pie and a vet that makes some kind of money like LHP Eyre:dunno:
Teemu 10-16-2006, 07:24 PM AHAHAHAHAHAHA..... the Cubs....
robert terwilliger 10-16-2006, 07:31 PM they'll go from 6th to 5th!
gobolt7 10-17-2006, 09:10 AM The thought was that Lou would only manage in the perfect scenario where the team was close. I dont really see this as that scenario at all. I am not really sure what he is thinking here....

probably thinking that they had the most cashola
David Puddy 10-17-2006, 06:22 PM Lou Pinella is a hell of a manager, but the Cubs don't have much for him to manage. If he had be hired by the Yankees, the would have had a better chance of winning it all.

Well, they are close ........................... to the basement.
I'll give it 3 years, and say their best season is 83-79 (if that) before he becomes the 44th Cubs manager to be hired since the team last won the World Series (and the 44th to not win it).
korqeldroma 10-18-2006, 01:22 PM It's hard being a Cubbies fan sometimes.
Bruinaholic 10-18-2006, 01:43 PM i read today that there payroll for next year is gonna be around 115$...isnt that quite a bit more then usual?
For some reason i thought they were always in the 85-95$ range:dunno:
115$ outta get them a pretty good team if u figure Lee is tied up at 13$,Ramirez if re-signed at around 12.5$,Zambrano should be around 7$ w/ Arbitration.
TOo bad they have around 5$ tied up in Dempster unless they can get his arm to hold up as a 6inning starter.
I can definitly see 1 of Soriano/C.Lee sign and maybe 1 of Schimdt/Mussina to be the #2.
blackhawksmaniac 10-20-2006, 05:04 PM Personally, i wanted Giradi to manage. he played with them at 2 different stints, managed to turn a 100 loss team to a near playoff birth. But, Pinella's pretty decent too. He knows who to turn sucky teams to winners.
The cubs should try to get Soriano.
TorontoSports 10-21-2006, 11:28 AM The cubs suck man. Pinnella is going to kill someone at wrigley next season.
Victory Ali* 10-29-2006, 10:08 PM Don't discount Sweet Lou. Here in Seattle he turned an eternal laughing stock into one of the hottest teams in the leagues and managed to tie the all-time win record. He also helped to make a city indifferent about baseball really passionate about the team. Also, don't forget he won a series managing the Reds in '93. If all else fails, he's one of the most ******* entertaining people in the game, his interviews and the occasions when he snaps are priceless.

Yeah but keep in mind the reasons he left Seattle AND Tampa Bay was that the front office wouldn't give him the players he needed to win it all and he left them both abruptly. The is going to be the difference maker for the Cubs and wether or not they win.

Oh ... then this will last all of about 1 season (if that) once he realizes the Cubs are swimming in money and ownership isn't about to go spend it all.
