Hossa 11-23-2003, 12:11 PM He's a checker, absolutely nothing more than that. He has good size, a mean streak, and he plays a physical game. His skating is not bad, but he doesn't have great skills. He'll defenitely never be a scorer. He was drafted high because he has good size, decent speed and started off his junior career well, but he really failed to develop his offensive game. I see him as our fourth liner of the future, but he's nothing more than a checking line prospect. Volchenkov 11-24-2003, 09:22 AM He's a checker, absolutely nothing more than that. Brooks Laich is most likely our 4th liner of the future. Hossa 11-24-2003, 10:49 AM I doubt he'll ever crack the lineup as an Ottawa Senator. Brooks Laich is most likely our 4th liner of the future. Laich is better than a 4th liner. He has too much skill, skating ability and size to be simply a 4th line center. Laich is either going to be our third line center of the future, or one of those LW types that Martin slots with a talented pair (like Varada or Schaefer for example). He isn't putting up such huge numbers in Bingo (and the reports I've heard are that he hasn't been so impressive) so I'm a little skeptical when it comes to touting him as a 3rd liner. On any other team, sure, but on the sens I see his future being on the 4th line. That's about a 50 point season over an 82 game season, which for a rookie is pretty good. I mean look at Schastlivy's production his first two minor pro seasons. Hardly tore up the league. We were spoiled by Vermette last year, but Laich is playing well for the AHL right now. He isn't a naturally gifted player, and he will improve, just like he did in junior. While I can understand where you are coming from on our depth holding back Laich, they are developing him to be a third line player, not a fourth liner. Fourth liners are dime a dozen, and Laich can be better than that. Volchenkov 11-24-2003, 06:33 PM Well, 11 points in 19 games is hardly a poor performance. So basically we are in agreement, except that I think that Laich will end up on the 4th line for the first part of his career, a la mike Fisher. I wouldn't be surprised if Vermette also ends up on the 4th line for the first few years of his career. The funny thing is that it will make him cheaper in the long run. | ||
