Briere gets a tally.
Makel* 10-25-2006, 07:13 PM although i am an isles fan i agree with the guy above me dipi come up big against good teams and hes due 4 a game and if he does 9-0 or 0-9 the isles will win hes better than brodeur when he has his good nights, but that remains to be seen if that will be the case. your team is very fast and i seen what they did too the flyers lol made them look patheticcc if they come out flying the isles might take alot of penalties o try to slow them down.... my prediction early lead for isles the sabres win. but if dipi stands on his head 3-1 isles
Myllz 10-25-2006, 07:19 PM and one 15-year contract.

Until proven otherwise, Sabres win.

cardiffgiant 10-25-2006, 07:41 PM I'm not sure who will win the hockey game, but I predict that an Isles fan will win the much coveted "longest run on sentence" award.

OpethianSabre20 10-25-2006, 08:38 PM The only way we have any chance of losing this game is if DiPierto stands on his head the whole game, which I think is highly unlikely, so...
Sabres-5 (Roy, Max, Vanek, Hecht, and Novotny get the goals)
Isles-1
Stone87 10-25-2006, 09:19 PM I'll be at the game tomorrow so they better keep the streak going.
sabresfan129103 10-25-2006, 09:29 PM should be a good game. i think we can pull out another one before our showdown with ATL. that being said sabres take this one 3-2 after a sloppy first period going down 2-0. AND YOU CAN TAKE THAT ONE TO THE BANK. :sarcasm:
Buffalo:
-Briere, Vanek, Max
Isle:
-Miro, Yashin
sacre_bleu 10-25-2006, 09:36 PM 3-1 Isles

cybresabre 10-25-2006, 09:52 PM I made it through 23 words. How many did you read?
I hope you got to the "the isles will win hes better than brodeur"
of course, there is a "when he has his good nights" attached to that, but hell-- if you compare my NHL stats, I've let in fewer goals than Brodeur.
jflory81 10-25-2006, 09:56 PM I made it through 23 words. How many did you read?
i think it may have taken less time to finish fighting through it than to count the words you read. ;)

Actually, if you were sitting on the glass when the Isles are shooting, I'd be afraid that Zhitnik would miss the net on a shot from the point and it would break the glass in the corner, but that's just me.

haha, thats great!
driveforfive* 10-26-2006, 12:34 AM For starters the Sabres are the best team in the NHL. Fast, Fast, Fast - Congratulations.
We are also on a streak (albeit not as impressive as yours). We started off 0-3 and have got at least 1 point in last 5 games. We are 2-0-2 at home.
We have a team with many new players - Hill, Witt, Poti on D. Gervais is a rookie. Zhit and Martinek are actually the only 2 from last year. Campoli will not play as he just got off the injured reserve. Poti has been our best D man.
Our new forwards are Sillinger, Kozlov, Simon, Park, Hilbert. So half out team is new from last year - so we are still trying to find an identity. Dunham played like Ken Dryden in his 4 games and was unbeaten in regulation 2-0-2 while our usually sub-par goalie Dippy is 1-3-0. I would prefer Dunham start but Dip is the new face of the Isles.
You guys are fast but one thing about the Isles is that they play harder against the better teams and come out weak against teams they should beat. We beat Anaheim (in Anaheim) and beat Carolina this year. We hit a lot (Ted Nolan style). But we may not be able to catch you guys. Where it is a home game for the Islanders and knowing the Isles really want to win this game for Nolan Dipietro does not have to win this game - We just ask him not to lose it. If he allows more than 1 weak goal we are toast.
Here is to a good game.
Jim Boeheim 10-26-2006, 02:13 AM Dunham played like Ken Dryden in his 4 games
He was good, but not that good.

Easy on the pot shots. It's not neccessary and when your team can finally match up with the success we've had, than make little comments. Until then, don't act like your superior to us.

They created a GDT on Monday right after Buffalo beat the Habs.
OpAck 10-26-2006, 10:37 AM Achtung: I'm an Isles fan, but I come in peace.
Tonight should be a great game. Buffalo is unbeaten in 9 and the Isles have a 5 game unbeaten streak in regulation (2 OT losses). In the end, I think Buffalo will go to 10 games...but my guess is that it won't be easy. In order for the Isles to win, DiPietro has to show up big, and I think he still has a large question mark coming off an injury and a poor start.
I never thought I'd have an opportunity to say this but, watch out for Yashin. He has had a phenomenal season so far and has especially been good through his last two games (1 goal, 6 assists). He's been involved in the Isles last 7 goals. He's worked real well with Blake and Kozlov...and there's even some chemistry with Sillinger as well. Just when you think you've got the Isles top line under control, there's always 2nd liners like Satan and York that can put the puck in the net...though both have struggled so far this season. The Isles defense is molding together nicely, but they can be overwhelmed by your offense. Get a couple guys to agitate Witt, and dim-Witt will retaliate and take a penalty. Our best d-man so far (especially of late) has arguably been Poti (much to the dismay of Rangers fans). He's been very smooth on the attack, and maybe besides a few careless mistakes early on...has been solid ever since.
Overall, this should be a great game...I could be totally biased here but I won't...I think you guys will win 5-3, the 5th being an empty-netter. Goals from Drury (2), Vanek, Briere, and Max and for the Isles...Yashin, Blake, and Poti.

they have a good mix of forwards.

Takeo 10-26-2006, 11:17 AM 4-2 Isles
Rob Paxon 10-26-2006, 11:42 AM IMO either 3 - 2 Isles in regulation or 4 - 3 Sabres in a shootout. In other words, Isles carry a 3 - 2 lead late and Buffalo either gets it tied and hangs on until the inevitable shootout victory or they aren't able to get the equalizer in.
Chainshot 10-26-2006, 11:44 AM Achtung: I'm an Isles fan, but I come in peace.

If there is one defenseman out there who regularly gets agitated playing the Sabres, it's Witt (followed by Souray). They've victimized him plenty, goaded him into foolish, feel-good penalties and then capitalized on the PP chances during the Caps recent struggling years. Blake is a Sabre-killer, the guy need only throw the puck on net and it seems to find a way to wring through to the twine. I would expect the Isles to be pumped up for their coach, same thing for the Sabres -- granted, there is only one Sabre on the team who played for the guy (Biron).
Either way, the Isles have piddled on the Sabres breakfast cereal often enough in the history of the two franchises to make this one a potential streak-breaker.

JPurp26 10-26-2006, 01:59 PM Well i havent posted in a while
I have some frighting news
ITS MY BIRTHDAY the big 15
last year on this date the Sabres traveled to my hometown Rochester to play the Caps and Ovechkin
and they played HORRENDOUS yikes i had to watch Buffalo play awful.
So tonight on my birthday this year i HOPE that Buffalo can play good and dismantle the islanders as a birthday gift to me
GO SABRES:yo: ill be watching the game at hooters:dunce:
Witter 10-26-2006, 02:33 PM Isles fan here but Sabres are one of my favorite teams as well even have there good old blue jersey. But to the point I do believe Buffalo has this in the bag with a 5-2 victory. It seems everyone wants to make a big deal with Nolan and the Sabres like theres a rivalry but I just don't see the Isles playing with the emotion its gonna take to beat this team. You guys are just way to quick and Witt's gonna take about 36 minutes in penalties from frustration. But hey guys lets just hope for a good game!
BTW Happy Birthday SabreDude2631
Pass McGass 10-26-2006, 03:02 PM Isles fan here but Sabres are one of my favorite teams as well even have there good old blue jersey. But to the point I do believe Buffalo has this in the bag with a 5-2 victory.
I wouldn't say the sabres have it in the bag, tonights game is going to be tough for both teams. Islander's have home ice advantage, a good goaltender when he feels like playing, a good coach with a lot of heart and Yashin.
The homer in me wants to say sabres win it 6-3 (they seemed to like scoring 6 goals on NYI last year), but I think it's going to be a lot closer of a game. So I'll say 3-2 and it could go either way.

In the real world, no one ever reads, writes, or speaks properly. It's a huge waste of time. Say No! To Punctuation.
E_Godard 10-26-2006, 04:07 PM I wonder about the attendance.
I hope hockey fans on the Isle come out to tonight.
Attendance at the coliseum hasnt been great so far this season. Most were saying it was due to the Mets playoffs. But now thats overwith and Sabres fans do exist on the island. So Im hoping we see between 12-14k. If its anything like last week, theyll be lucky to hit 10k.
We shall see..

driveforfive* 10-26-2006, 04:51 PM This is a big game for the Isles - As you see. Everyone wants to take that 0 from you. You are playing to tie an NHL record. The NHL has been around since 1917 - That is big marbles. Ted Nolan's former team - Sets up for an exciting game. Isles may get recognized if they win this game - especially after just beating Carolina too.

rikker 10-26-2006, 05:32 PM boy, i hope that it's a close game, as us Isles fans need some some sort of gratisatisfaction. i predict that the Sabres win 7-5 in a wild shootout.
Peters and Witt battle and battle, right into the crowd. Milbury takes his shoe off and beats an old lady with it. the old lady regains her composure, and pummels him back. Wang is so upset with the fisticuffs, and offers everyone in the crowd 1 billion dollars to stop fighting.
Dipietro scores a PP goal. Afiniganov skates so fast that he goes right through the boards and glass. and all the beautiful women in the crowd are so pumped that they start doing a strip tease...
okay, i'm getting silly.
here's to an entertaining game Sabres fans!

The score is 1-0. Can't knit pick too much. Last time I checked Miller is part of this team and has to do his part sometimes. Considering its still the first period and the sabres have yet to show up for a first period this season I'm not too worried.
This is a nice board you guys got here. I just found it a few days ago. I mostly use the other 3 major sabres boards.

I kid because I care. The Isles used to be one of the Troika of Evil alongside the Bruins and Flyers. Now... 12 years of mis-adventure in ownership and management have me yearning for the days when I could loathe the Islanders due to their compitence and superior play. Now... if Wang can get his head around getting a new arena rather than shelling out market-disturbing contracts, the franchise could at least put a better face on things. The stockpile of draftees this past summer should be a pathway Snow continues in order to retool depth and find the occassional diamond in the rough. We'll have to see how things go... *shrug*
senility 10-26-2006, 11:51 PM Hey guys. Just wanted to stop by to congratulate you on tying the record. As much as I hope that my beloved Sens will one day catch up to the Buffalo juggernaut or at least find a way to beat you in the playoffs, I'd very much like to see you break the record next game. Your team plays hockey the way it's meant to be played, and they are a pleasure to watch. As disappointing as it was to lose last year, it was a little easier, knowing that we lost to a great team with deserving fans that have paid their dues. Here's to what I hope will be a spirited, but respectful, rivalry for years to come.

Over on their board they are saying Miller is "good, but not that good" and in the same breath saying DiPietro had a good game.. when will these people wake up and realize that Miller >> DiPietro, the only thing Rick has that Ryan doesn,t other then a 15 yr contract, is the Hype of being a #1 over all draft pick. Its early but I see Miller with a record of 8-0 2.49GAA and a 9.15 sv% while Rick is 1-3 with a 4.11GAA and 8.92sv%, but yeah Rick is better :shakehead
senility 10-27-2006, 12:11 AM It's been a combination of things really. Emery has been solid all along, and even Gerber has been OK, but keeping goals out was never really the problem. It was our complete inability to score them. Sound familiar? Anyway, a lot of our top offensive players finally woke up, particularly Spezza, Heatley, Fisher, and Vermette and that has helped matters a lot. Believe it or not, Joe Corvo has been a real catalyst as well. Kings fans have nothing good to say about him, but he's been extremely steady since coming back from injury and his big shot has really injected new life into our power play, which had been last in the league prior to Saturday night's game. After feasting on the Devils and Leafs the last two games, however, I think we may have cracked the top 20 now. We're all feeling a little more optimistic now, but if you guys don't stop this craziness soon, I figure you'll have the division sewn up by the Allstar break if not sooner. Oh well, the fourth seed worked out OK for you guys, so we won't jump off any cliffs just yet.

After tonight Miller is 8-0-0 with a 2.19 GAA, a .925 SP%, and 1 shutout.

Well, to be fair, Miller also plays for a much better team, in case you hadn't noticed. That kind of helps things like records and GAA, and even sv %. Though I still agree that Miller is better than Dipietro. Don't characterize all Isles fans like that. If you look over there, Dipietro's taking a heck of a lot more abuse than praise. Personally I felt Dipietro was fine tonight, kind of hard to blame those goals on him. He didn't steal the game for us or anything, but he played well enough that on a better team he'd have kept them in it. But you also can't fault a shutout, and for now I think Miller is rather easily the better goalie (though, it's hardly on this game alone that I base that). I hope someday that changes, but I'm not banking on it.
Anyway, wasn't coming over here to debate American goalies with you, just wanted to congratulate you guys on well played game. Dominated us in every facet of the game, it was obvious from the drop of the puck who the better team was. But mostly, I wanted to wish you luck on Saturday, as I'd love to see you guys beat Atlanta and break that record. You guys have a great thing goind and are a real treat to watch play right now.

Hard to blame the goals against him?
Afinogenov made him look :snide: .
Miller is something like 7 for 8 this year in stopping breakaways or shootouts.

Thanks for the kind words. Atlanta is going to be a tough one, especially with the way they've been playing as of late.
I thought DiPi played pretty well last night, except for the attempted poke check on Max on the breakaway... Max tries that move often.
bflohockeygirl 10-27-2006, 08:07 AM w00t!
Missed all but the last 5 minutes of the game on TV, but caught Max's goal on gaf's Walkman during a break in rehearsal.
Stoked to have another in the W column; keep rollin'...

Yeah, but the others werent really Rick's fault.
bd007h* 10-27-2006, 02:46 PM Anyone see Witt take a swing at Max's head before Max scored his goal? I just noticed that watching the replay again.

It looks worse from the goal judge replay. He wasn't that close, but it seems standard for him against Buffalo over the years -- feel good penalties after getting burned.
