I know it's not going to happen. Leonsis will not change the coach, if only because he does not want the expense of hiring a new head coach and paying Cassidy's contract too.
But, I think its time to do that. I think you can look and see that there are some players that have had their spirits broken by this season. You can see it in Kolzig and you can see it in Bondra. I think the pressure of the losing has to be adversely effecting some of the young players as well. Its possible that Eminger, Gordon, Sutherby, & Semin are all not ready for a real role on an NHL team. Its also possible that the stress of this horrible season his holding back the progress of all of them and particularly keeping any of the 4 that can contribute at the NHL level from being able to do that.
You'd have to assume that the players know that Cassidy doesn't have any answers by now. They need a new and positive force in their game.
They need a new coach. Someone that can get a positive atmosphere in the locker room.
I am concerned about all 4 of the prized young guys.
Eminger was victimized on the first goal and Rick Berry rather than picking him up just stood there and watched.
Gordon has done nothing and was scratched tonight.
Sutherby has been put in Kono's spot on the checking line, but the 3 of them still can't get anything done with the puck.
Semin's situation still sort of boggles me. The Caps are having all kinds of trouble getting a second line going on a regular basis, yet Semin plays 2 out of 3 games and seems to have something to contribute every other game or so. I assume Cassidy thinks his defensive problems are too dangerous while having what amounts to AHL defensemen on the ice along with him.
After the last two games, I just think that this will not get better as long as Cassidy is coach.

Kolzig horrible. Miller horrible. Bondra lazy tonight. Kiwi...well...woop woop woop!! Berry did make a mistake, but at least he sticks up for his teammates. He played hard, and he's going to make some mistakes. 3rd line was absolutely terrible tonight. The refereeing was really bad tonight as well.
PSUhockey34 11-28-2003, 07:33 PM I honestly believe Cassidy is all out of ideas...Im not saying he couldnt be an NHL coach but I think he's done all he could here and failed...this season is over for us really, we've constitently have had horrible starts but never this bad and never with a team this talented in recent memory...probably the most interesting thing about this season will be who is going to be left a year's end
I didnt catch the habs game but i saw gonchar was even while playing little over thirty minutes, was he playing pretty sound hockey?

kiwi...woop woop woop? NO!! That is reserved for Larry Murphy. Larry Murphy is going to end up in the Hall of Fame and that taunt is only tarnished by using it on a yack like Kiwi.

I've never understood why Murphy always got that taunt - though I'd laugh every time it happened. What did he do/not do?

He got a bad rap really. He was considered soft. Compared to Langway, Stevens, & Hatcher, he was soft. He also was prone to the ocassional high profile turnover. When your frame of reference for an offensive defenseman was Scott Stevens it can tilt your prospective and I think many just didn't get it with him. He was, in fact a great player.
I also think its natural that Capitals fans would want that superstar offensive player like Jagr. They were so used to having the defensemen and you always want what you don't have. But you can look back now and realize that the Caps had 3 hall of fame defensemen on the ice at the same time, Langway, Stevens, & Murphy. Hatcher was an allstar.
When you realize that Calle Johansson was on the same team with those guys, too, its almost shocking. Add Mike Gartner and Dale Hunter to that crew and you can see if the Caps had a Kolzig level goalie in those days rather than Jensen, Riggin, Peeters, Mason, and Beaupre, they might have won 3 or 4 cups.

Only tarnished by using it on a yack like Kiwi :shakehead . . . LOL, Txpd.
When he does get into the HOF, which I think he will, it should should put all the "whoop, woop, woopers" in their place and he won't even blink at them.
As he continued to play-on I am sure that fans (in other cities) everywhere had to be saying . . . the average $parc fan never could distingush between a good and a bad defenseman.
If Murphy would lace them up right now he'd make your squad. :D
