PigPen 12-02-2003, 10:00 AM the game everybody on this board has been looking forward to for some time.
The ducks are the farthest thing from the sort of team they were last year, having lost 5 times in overtime and are only 1 point above .500
If it weren't for those 5 points from OTL's, they'd be in a very deep hole which I doubt they could get themselves out of.
Their defense has been average.
2 of their 3 top prospects are goal-less (smirnov who is now in the AHL and Chistov who is without a goal in 22 games.)
They average 2.23 goals for each game.
They average 2.58 goals against each game.
They aren't playing as disciplined as they used to, taking bad penalties at the worst possible times.
My prediction
5-2 wings.
Shanahan (PP), Hull, Yzerman, Lidstrom (PP), Maltby (SH)
Fedorov (2)
Shoalzie 12-02-2003, 10:53 AM I'm getting pumped up for the game...this'll be my first game at the Joe since Game 5 of the Western Finals against the Avalanche two years ago. :yo:
The Wings are playing well going into the game but for some reason the game after a long layoff for them seems to give them trouble. I hope they can get up for this one though...I'm sure the fans will. I don't think I will be as harsh towards Sergei as I said I would. He'll get a good razzing though if he takes a penalty or he gets burned for a goal.
The big question: who's going to start in goal for the Wings? Legace would my guess...he's won the last three games and allowed only 2 goals in those games.
As for Anaheim, they've played better but they aren't near the form that took them to the Cup Finals. It would be great if Giguere started tomorrow and the Wings can hopefully exorcise some demons.
My prediction: Red Wings 3, Mighty Ducks 1
Vincent Vega 12-02-2003, 11:02 AM The Wings are going to be looking for revenge.
4-1.
Yzerman, Hull(2), Bootland
Fedorov
guinness 12-02-2003, 01:13 PM 2-1 Ducks, I dunno, just a feeling that the Wings are going to have an off night after flying last week and the few days off, instead of a game every other day.
Fedorov (2)
Yzerman
Also, I think the crowd will (wrongly) boo Feds.
I watched a little of their game tonight with Columbus...the last I saw they were losing 2-0...so that means they are going to be coming in tired and ticked off...let's hope we can take advantage of it.
Were it me, I think I'd go with Manny...hey, if it ain't broke, why screw with it?
I'm not going to predict a score, but if Pasha plays against Sergei, I hope he makes Feds look awful...I'd laugh my ass off if he did.
Go get 'em boys!
Kukla 12-02-2003, 05:55 PM Lewis said today Manny in goal for Ducks game and probably Dom on Thursday against the Blues.
Shoalzie 12-02-2003, 07:25 PM I'm not going to predict a score, but if Pasha plays against Sergei, I hope he makes Feds look awful...I'd laugh my ass off if he did.
Although Draper has been playing wing with Yzerman and Shanahan, I think Lewis should put Draper back on his checking line and have him go against Fedorov's line. I think if Zetterberg was healthy, he'd be the ideal center to go against Fedorov.
One thing about the Ducks is they have lots of good faceoff guys at center...it hurts not having Fedorov on our side, I expect to see Yzerman and Draper taking the majority of the draws. The Wings are short on centers so maybe those guys come out to take draws and then make quick changes for the regular player.
TheNorm#30 12-02-2003, 10:04 PM I'll be at this game tomor--er, tonight, and I've been looking forward to this one. The team that knocked us out of the playoffs, with a player that bolted from us for who knows what reason.
A few months ago I was looking at this game as one in which I'd boo FedEx everytime he touched the puck, was introduced, etc. I've softened on that a bit--he did play a role in the Wings winning 3 Cups in 6 years, after all. That can't be overlooked. Booing him loudly only makes it easier for him to think he made the right choice in leaving (which I don't think he did). I'll razz him just the same as I razz any opposing player.
Will he get a standing O from me? Not a chance on that either. Some of the things said by him through his agent when he left still pi$$ me off as a fan, and I don't like it. Like McCarty said, "If he doesn't want to be here, we don't want him here." Works for me.
Go Wings!
Zoran Manojlovic 12-03-2003, 05:30 AM Also, I think the crowd will (wrongly) boo Feds.
I agree with you. I think that he deservs a standing oavation before the game. After all that he´s done for this club throughout the years, I think that he deservs it! Just remember the 93-94 season, wow...
and the score:
DET 4 - ANA 2
note: the game is broadcasted here in Sweden as well! :rolly:
Motown Beatdown 12-03-2003, 05:50 AM i think this is gonna be a great game. Fed should get cheered if he is announced as a starter. But he will get boo'd alot too during the game. Alot of people were pissed he left or maybe the way he left. But i look at it this way, if he didn't want to be a Detroit Red Wing, i'm glad he did leave. No one should be forced to do something or play some where they dont want to. I just think he could have handled his departure with a little more class.
All in all he did live up to his contract, and didn't pull a move like another former Detroit Sports Star. You know the jackass who finally came out hinding after years of avoiding the Detroit fans and Media to pimp his book.
Teezax 12-03-2003, 05:55 AM I get the feeling the fans will boo him everytime he gets puck and it'll be a shame cosidering he was one fo the core players for the Red Wings franchise for the last decade. They wouldn't have won 3 cups without him in the lineup, that's a fact! I think Feds will take it to the Wings tonight in huge fashion and put up like 3 points to shut the crowd up. Hopefully he gets the ovation he deserves, but think about it, did he really leave on good terms?

Thats why alot of people are/were pissed. The stuff he said after he left. He felt like he was defecting from the USSR again. He could have handled it with alot more class. If he would have said, i've had a great 13 years in Detroit. But i think it's time to move on. Not as many would be as upset. But the lies, the comments, and the double talk rubbed the fans the wrong way. Might i even say his former teammates too. Only one former teammate has talked to Fedorov since he left (Chelios)

I hope he gets an ovation from fans too, but I also hope that playing against Feds and the team that embarassed them in the playoffs last year will get the Wings revved up for the game (they do tend to have some off nights after long lay offs).
I also think that Feds will geared up for the game against his former team. I'm still looking for a Wings win, but I think that he'll have a good night. It will be interesting how his former teammates play against him. That is, if they are more physical tonight or not.
I have a feeling that Feds is going to get the same treatment that Cheli gets in Chicago...every time he touches the puck he's going to get some Bronx cheers. Now whether he deserves them or not is another story. Me, if I were at the game I'd just be so happy to be there I wouldn't be cheering for Sergei, nor would I be booing him...I'd be cheering for Pasha.
That said, anyone for a hearty helping of Duck a l'orange ?
Shoalzie 12-03-2003, 09:38 AM I'm leaving for the Joe within the hour...you guys enjoy the game! Go Wings!
A Good Flying Bird* 12-03-2003, 12:56 PM Thats why alot of people are/were pissed. The stuff he said after he left. He felt like he was defecting from the USSR again. JW, Fedorov certainly could have handled it better. However, he never compared Detroit to the USSR, his agent made that analogy.
As for the lies, there were just as many told by Ken Holland and company.
This team didn't want Sergei back. Art Regner has said several times that the players met several times and decided they didn't want Sergei back. Then the $50M offer was pulled.
What frustrates me is that Art Regner keeps talking about this meeting while the rest of the Detroit media tries to write supposedly factual stories that never add up.
Why won't the Detroit print media simply as the players if it's true?
Those of us who heard Art and Greg interview Yzerman before his contract was signed last year can remember Stevie being asked if Fedorov was coming back to Detroit.
Steve said he didn't know. He said he hadn't talked to Fedorov about it (Clue 1. Yzerman is known to lobby players to stick around)
Then he was asked how Detroit could ever replace Fedorov.
He said that it was no big deal and these days you could just go out and easily pick up a $10M player for little more than their salary.
To me, that's when I knew Fedorov was gone.
Yzerman didn't want him back.
Meanwhile, Fedorov over the summer was quoted as saying he got a long well with Yzerman and his wife, saying that he and Anna K often went to their house for dinner.
The real story behind the Fedorov departure would be one hell of an interesting read if any Detroit writer had the guts to dig in.
soya_sauce_chicken 12-03-2003, 01:07 PM of course he will be boo'd everytime he touches the puck.. i hope that gives him enough steam to place the puck in the net.. ;)
so it's Fedorov and Thomas going at it against their former teams...
i'm shocked onearmbandit hasn't posted on this thread yet..
GO DUCKS!~!~!
i'll be watching the box socre on yahoo till i leave work.. :(
so i'll probably be in and out of this thread if you don't mind seeing the play-by-play by you people..
here's to a great game...
Spaceace 12-03-2003, 02:14 PM Let's go DUCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;) :yo: :handclap:
Vincent Vega 12-03-2003, 03:01 PM Fedorov been getting any boos?
Fedorov been getting any boos?
EVERY single time he touches the puck.
:handclap:
1) Congrats to Mark Mowers for his first goal as a Red Wing. :handclap:
2) Hull's goal was so fast I never even saw it! Hokey smokies! Had to catch it on the replay. But now he's two away from Marcel Dionne...will he catch him tonight?
3) Pasha now has the team lead in assists with 15...too bad it isn't 15 goals, but we'll get there... :handclap:
4) Boy, I thought Cheli got the boos and catcalls in Chicago...this is beyond even that! Man, Sergei is getting royally booed every time he touches the puck. That has to hurt a little...
This is interesting... no Sergei on the bench to start the period???
guinness 12-03-2003, 03:34 PM 4) Boy, I thought Cheli got the boos and catcalls in Chicago...this is beyond even that! Man, Sergei is getting royally booed every time he touches the puck. That has to hurt a little...
A packed building will do that, considering the patches of empty seats I'm used to seeing during the telecasts, a lot of people were geared up for this game.
Four, and guess who hits the showers early???? BYE BYE GIGUERE!!!!
Two assists for Pasha tonight...
This just keeps on getting funnier and funnier.
Five...
:yo::yo::yo::yo::yo:
Five...
I hoped Pasha would have a good game to make us forget about you-know-who (and why did it have to be him scoring the goal?)...but he's pulling out all the stops. Way to go baby!
Make it SIX, and guess who's got two? Dare I to dream??? A four-point night so far!
Five...

Epsilon 12-03-2003, 04:06 PM Man I love this team right now.
Epsilon 12-03-2003, 04:08 PM That's 4 points for Datsyuk tonight.
It just keeps on getting better and better...dare we to dream??? Could tonight be the night???
Oh please, oh please, oh please...I'm saying prayers...
Upon1 12-03-2003, 04:11 PM Was anyone going to mention that Federov scored the Ducks goal? after all the Federov/Wings thing is the only reason this game is interesting.
zetterberg40 12-03-2003, 04:17 PM what a great game... every line is playing sweet... dats is just so good its sick, yet funny... fedorov's goal was nice, ill give him credit for that, typical fedorov goal.... hell even if it ends 6-1, or 6-2, what a great game, manny is the man
zetterberg40 12-03-2003, 04:19 PM 4 pt night for dats...
thats crazy
Seven...
:yo: (7)
One...
zetterberg40 12-03-2003, 04:27 PM goal from shanny, 7-1...
who says we need more offense... :)
4 pt night? There's still 20 minutes of hockey to go, how do you know it won't be more?
This was kind of predictable (although not this hard), what with getting swept by them and then losing Feds to them as well. I guess you can't stop people from booing, but if I were there I'd be cheering for him. I wonder how many people are cheering (or would like to but are chicken).
BTW, what was the Simpson - Booter fight like?
Oh hell, let's go for 8...I want to see Pasha get a hat trick!
Rats - 7-2...let's answer that one back...come on Pasha!
zetterberg40 12-03-2003, 04:33 PM BTW, what was the Simpson - Booter fight like?
wasnt much of a fight, about 10 punches thrown, it was a weak one, but hey, a fight is a fight... it looked more like a scrum then a fight
Vincent Vega 12-03-2003, 04:36 PM Oh hell, let's go for 8...I want to see Pasha get a hat trick!
I think this could be the night Kira! :D
zetterberg40 12-03-2003, 04:36 PM goal from the ducks, martenson, never heard of the guy, at all..
7-2... us still
Seven...
:yo: (7)
Two...
 (2)
I think this could be the night Kira! :D
Pray...if the angels have seen him (and I know they have), and this is the night, you're gonna hear a scream of joy from here to Sverdlovsk...come on baby...I know you can do it!
Vyacheslav 12-03-2003, 04:43 PM 4 pt night? There's still 20 minutes of hockey to go, how do you know it won't be more?

If I went I would have worn my Fedorov Wings jersey and I would have cheered when he scored. I'm still a big fan of Sergei.
zetterberg40 12-03-2003, 04:52 PM a 7-2 final... great win, tomorrow's game hopfully we'll come out with some offense as well..
great game.. dats is the man
I wish he would have got the hat, but I'm so proud of him...17 points in his last 12 games...gotta love it.
Bravo, baby - you definitely rule!
And boy, do I have good news to send to my niece in Florida tonight - she's going to be screaming with joy - she's also a big fan of Pasha. Look out Monica - you're going to get some good news!
soya_sauce_chicken 12-03-2003, 05:14 PM goal from the ducks, martenson, never heard of the guy, at all..
7-2... us still
dam... you guys killed us... good job.. maybe that smacks some sense into us..
Martenson was called up from cincy our affiliate program...
at least fedorov got a goal.. :D
Coffey77 12-03-2003, 05:15 PM Wow, another blowout game. Hoping detroit does that to Toronto this Saturday since I will be there for that game :D
Mowers looks good out there as a depth player. 2 points tonight.
guinness 12-03-2003, 05:28 PM The Ducks looked listless, can't fault their goalies, they got no help from the rest of the team, although I'm pissed the Wings couldn't figure out to go glove side and high on Giguire in the playoffs, oh well. Wings D played pretty well, they prevented the Ducks from getting any offensive momentum going. The Blues game tomorrow should be another close one though.
SlavaKozlov 12-03-2003, 06:11 PM If I went I would have worn my Fedorov Wings jersey and I would have cheered when he scored. I'm still a big fan of Sergei.
Really, he had great years in Detroit, won a Hart, Selke, and 3 cups, scored over 400 goals, and yet people boo him. I guess they are just bitter he left. I really wish we had him still, but hey, not every player plays their whole career one one team, in fact very few players do. Just like when they interviewed Thomas, he said he has no clue why the fans boo Feds. He have this team gread years, and was a huge part of the 3 cups. He is just THAT talented, and doesn't deserved to be booed just because he is playing for the other team. Boo him if he deserves it, like when he was a floater and didn't try every now and then. Still a hell of a player, but still, sweet revenge to crush the team he went to and the team that crushed us last year in the first round.
Too true...revenge is much better than Christmas.
Sorry, soya_sauce...it was just one of those nights when everything went right...I just wish Pasha would have got his hat trick.
See you in January - hopefully we'll win that one too!
MotownMadman 12-04-2003, 04:41 AM Really, he had great years in Detroit, won a Hart, Selke, and 3 cups, scored over 400 goals, and yet people boo him. I guess they are just bitter he left. I'm honestly a little mixed about the boos. I think that things like that add to rivalries, compounding the emotion and leading to great hockey. I remember Ted Lindsey saying that he could honestly say that he hated every opposing player when he stepped on the ice. I think that emotion from fans adds into that.
Tempered with that is the fact that Sergei definitely deserves recognition for being a huge part of the Wings success over the last decade (especially the first two Cups). I also don't think that he completely screwed the team. It's not like he sat out part of a season to get more money (at least not this time). Maybe he learned from what happened in 98 and tried to play out his contract last year and leave a little more amicably.
Anyway, as confusing as it sounds I think Feds deserves credit, but rain the boos down when he touches the puck at the Joe. That's emotion. That's part of hockey.
soya_sauce_chicken 12-04-2003, 06:52 AM Too true...revenge is much better than Christmas.

it happens..
just wait till the playoffs.. Beware the Ides of.. umm.. the Ducks.. :D
Take care and good game.. well from your standpoint at least... c-ya people
Motown Beatdown 12-04-2003, 07:11 AM I think the fans at the Joe might have overrated a little bit. But they did buy those seats so they can do whatever they want. Everyone knows how important Fedorov was to this team. But the way he left still tastes bad. It's not that he left, but all the talk, lies, excuses and stuff. one day he is quoted saying he would have liked to stay (in the Interview with Album). The next week in the LA Times his is quoted saying months before July 1st he knew he was going to leave.
If Fedorov would have come out and said he had a great career in Detroit but thinks he needs to move on, i dont think it would have been as bad. But saying he feels like defecting from the USSR again (around those lines, from his agents quote) is just classless IMO.
Fedorov did take some blame from the fans for some of the Wings playoff loses. But no more than Cujo, Lapointe, Osgood, Ranford, Bowman, Lewis and others.
Still i wish him the best of luck. Heck he can score a goal a game against the Wings. Aslong as the Wings win 7-2 again :D
Vyacheslav 12-04-2003, 05:14 PM Here's something about the Fedorov booing thing. I pretty much agree, cheering Sergei at the beginning and then booing him the rest of the time would have been perfectly acceptable.

I agree with that. He was just booed all night, and it never let up. Even those who wore Feddy shirts/jerseys were booed. Wow, I guess it's bad enough he is on the Ducks, but then get booed :p :joker: :D j/k He is still a good player, and I wish him well. I don't like the way he left, and I wish he was still in Hockeytown, but he was lured by $$$ and he didn't seem to want to be in Detroit any longer. The 7-2 win was plenty enough payback for Feddy's departure, IMO.
