The Summerland Sting announce the signing of Michael Holst an 86 born defenseman from Innsbruck, Austria playing in the Mens Elite League.

I was just wondering if anyone knew about this Holst kid and how good of a defenseman he is. He just signed with our division rival. His little brother currently plays for the team and leads his team in scoring.

Michael played the last two season for the HC Innsbruck (Team of former NHL-Player Todd Elik). But he hardly got any icetime with the Pros and decided to spend the rest of the season with the Sting. Michael played the 04/05-season for the Banff Icemen (HJBHL) recording 6 goals and 15 assists in 28 games.

I think he isn't as talented as his brother Taylor but he may bring leadership and experience to the Sting. (He took part in 2 World Junior Championships Div. 1 for the Austrian National Team.)

Btw. how's his brother doing? Did you have a chance to watch him? He's KIJHL-All-Star and got called up to the Penticton Vees last week. Does he has a real chance to make the "next step"?

I've played against his brother about 4-5 times now this season, and as skilled as he might be I doubt he makes the "Next Step," as in professional hockey any higher than the European Leagues.

He's a very skilled, fast player, and he'll play in the BCHL next year, but I can't see him being a legit NHL prospect.

By the way, the older Holst scored a goal last night aginst the Princeton Posse, apparently it was pretty nice.
