Just an idea.

I've heard of lot of people say that we should ship Sandy near the trade deadline. I'm not saying that I agree or disagree with this but I did have one idea for a possibility if trading was to happen.

As you all know, our defense flat-out stinks. We have nothing other than AJ as far as defensive prospects goes (and no Klesla no longer counts in my mind, he's already got a couple years under his belt). So, it's obvious that we would need a D-man that would be cheap, young, and NHL-ready.

Granted, I don't think that Ottawa would do this, but something of the nature could be a possibility. I've always heard that the Sens have had an interest in acquiring Sandy. So, why not ship him and maybe a pick to them for Anton Volchenkov. Come deadline time, they should still be in the playoff race and may want to add more fire power to their lineup. I don't quite know if such as deal makes sense for them, but I think fellow fans could agree that it would make a lot of sense for us. Tell me what you think.

I know the Sens are under newer, more stable ownership, but we'd have to pick up a large chunk of his salary. He's due 6 million over two years after this season. The Sens would be a good choice to try to get a Dman from, they are loaded there on the big club and on the farm. I don't think we could get the A-Train, though, he's a good once.

Anybody else remember the rumor near the deadline last year??

Sanderson to Ottawa for Tim Gleason...Who went to the Kings in the Smolinski trade, if i'm not mistaken?

Yea, I'm sure Ottawa backed out. They needed Smoke more anyway, he's a more complete player, plus he's a center. They are weak on LW, and Sanderson would fit in great there, IMO, but we'd have to pay.

BTW, welcome to the board BJB. You seem like a pretty knowledgeble fellow, glad to see some more around here :D

Thank you for the welcoming. I like to think I know a good deal about hockey....it's my favorite sport. Plus I'm very active in fantasy leagues and such which has helped me learn everything I know about all sports. I know a lot more than the "normal" people around me which to them makes me a sports geek lol. Pretty bad that I'm already being labeled that when I'm only 17!

Anyways, I do agree with us having to pick up a chunk of Sandy's contract, I kinda figured that would be the case anyways. But honestly, for what it's worth, I think adding Anton would be a great addition to our young team. Although I've stated that I feel the same way about Umberger and some disagreed with me there lol. So who knows, everyone has an opinion, and that was mine.

I doubt anyone will want Sanderson. Too Little Production and too big of a contract.

He doesn't have much value now, but given some injuries on other teams and he could look very attractive at the deadline. I don't know if DM would pull the trigger though. I think he has a wee bit of pride, especially after resigning the guy in the offseason. Also, I think he'd be more likely to get traded once he's longer into this contract -- not in the first year.
Last year, DM was offered a 2nd and 5th (from NSH I believe) for Whitney and didn't do it.
Of course, I still think Sandy has some pop. We all no he's about the streakiest sob around. Just need to get him on a good streak -- see, that's simple.

Yeah lol, hopefully by the time the deadline rolls around, he will have already been hitting the back of the net consistantly, which should help in drawing interest from a team like the Sens.

I think a number of teams would be interested in Sanderson, but I don't think any of them would give up anything significant (especially considering his current production). Also, there are going to be a ton of 'decent' wingers available this summer, and even more if the UFA age is lowered.

In summay, given his current production, high money contract, long-term contract, and the NHL's cloudy future, I don't think Sanderson is going to get much in return. Volchenkov is a dream at this point.

There have been rumors all over the league about players much better than Sandy going to the Sens (cant remember who it was now) for Volchenkov. The Sens have come right out and said that they have no intention of trading any of thier young defensemen, especially Volchenkov.

I know Sandys production is way down, but he is still considered our #1 LW and still draws alot of attention helping open the ice for Nash a little. If we cut Sandy, we've got no one else for them to key on and it will get even tougher for Nash.
