Three of Detroit's many swedish prospects were announce to the Swedish National Team for a tournament in Russia. Think its Baltica Cup, replacer of the old Isjvestia. Classic december euro hockey tournament.

The players are Jari Tolsa, Andreas Jamtin and Stefan Liv. Tolsa has played before but Jamtin will make his debut. Its also Jamtin's first season in the Swedish Elite League I belive.

Liv has played for the national team for 3 seasons now. Liv is having a stellar season with his team HV 71. They are currently 2nd in the league and Liv is a big reason. I think Jamtin plays on the team as well.

I was suprised to see Liv's performance in the camp with the Wings earlier. He got realy bad stats. He must have stepped up mentaly and is now playing realy good goaltending.

Its a good sign... these players are progressing and beloning to the upper echelon of Swedish players. A little bit development more and they are ready for America

Actually, there are 5 Detroit prospects on the team. Kollar and Söderström also belong to the Red Wings.

I suspected Kollar were drafted but wasn't sure, didn't remember Söderström.

Soderstrom plays with Timra and was a teammate of Zetterberg.

Pretty sure that Jamtin played in the SEL 2 years ago.

Yup, he did. But his team got relegated to the 2nd tier league.

Only 20 years old but still he has "managed" to play for three teams at senior level.

Well, Stefan Liv does but the other two have some work to do before they are recognized as stars in Sweden.

This swedish roster for The Baltica Cup is more a roster for the future, the swedish coach Hardy Nilsson is looking ahead to the World Championships in 2005 and 2006.

"It´s important that we bring in new players, so that we have a bigger selection. We have a problem that lies in the fact that we have been left behind on the juniorside. The 77:s should be dominating in the SEL, but that isn´t the case. And what will happen when all players born in the early 70s retire?" - Hardy Nilsson
