Havlat and Rachunek for Hamrlik and Peca.
Isles get two very good very young and very cheap players. Sens get defensive and character upgrade they need to really put them over the top. Obviously Melnyk would have to play a big part here as Sens would add some serious salary.
New Lines
Varada-Bonk-Hossa
White-Spezza-Alfie
Smoke-Peca-Fisher
Shaefer-Van Allen-Neil
Redden-Chara
Phillips-Hamrlik
Volchenkov-Pothier
Bench:Les(sp), Hnidy, Schastlivy, Vermette
What do you guys think?
Theo Huxtable 12-09-2003, 08:02 AM Hamrlik makes $3.6 million
Peca makes $4.25 million
Total = $7.85 million
Havlat makes $1.6 million
Rachunek makes $0.9 million
Total = $2.5 million
I don't think the Senators are going to add $5.35 million to their payroll this year, so no deal IMO.
SensGod 12-09-2003, 08:08 AM I don't quite see how this deal would really improve the team all that much...
Not to take anything away from Peca or Hamerlik but giving up Havlat for a 3rd line centerman...is quite frankly...quite stupid for the Sens.
Hamer for Rachunek I'd do...probably add something too...but no way in hell would Havlat be involved with Peca.

I'm sure you would do Hamrlik for Rachunek, unfortunately the Isles wouldn't. Also the Sens would do well with a guy like Peca on their team.
Jag68Sid87 12-09-2003, 12:52 PM The Senators would have to be completely insane to trade Martin Havlat. Just move him to LW on a line with Spezza and Hossa, forming a clear-cut dominant No. 1 line and watch the production soar to ridiculous heights.

i wouldnt say completly insane. in theory that line works, but havlat has said he doesnt like playing lw, hes tried but prefers the rw, so it looks like his stuck there. so unless hossa is willing to play lw on that line, havlat is pretty much stuck on the 3rd line for a long time. with alfie looking to re-sign and i dont think hossa is going anywhere anytime soon. i love the kid as much as anyone, but if the price is right i could easily move him. he isnt going to become the player he can be on a 3rd line. his value is probably the highest now. plus with just a one year contract, hes a fa again this year, so if last year is any indication we could be in for a long summer with him again. im not saying lets trade him, but he is good bait and if the price is right, why not?
Lexicon Devil 12-09-2003, 05:24 PM That's a horrible proposal.
I wouldn't trade Rachunek for Hamrlik straight up, yet alone throw in Havlat for Peca.

Agreed. If you are going to move anyone on Ottawa the guy to move is Havlat. He has tremendous upside, and as such, would garner something substantial in return. Factor in his holdout this fall, he won't play LW, Sens depth at RW, and you've got yourself the best player Ottawa can trade in order to get something in return. If Ottawa has to overpay a little bit by throwing in a quality prospect to get a guy who adds grit with a good scoring touch (ie a Morrow) or a top young goalie (ie a Theodore) I say do it.

I don't think trading Havlat is a good idea unless were getting a ridiculous return like a Nash or something but Havlat really gives us three solid scoring lines and rounds out the best RW in the league.
