Ray Emery just fought his first fight in the NHL at 5:13 in the second period. :yo:

This was a long time coming...

If anyone could post the fight on YouTube that would be great

And the smile never came off his face.

Pretty hard to fight a guy like Peters with goalie equipment on. But Emery hung in there, couldnt really throw a punch though. Props to Biron for taking the mask off and going with emery. Emery could've killed him, but let him up. Looking back at what Peters did, i bet Emery now wishes he'd spent a little more time softening up birons face.

He's probably going to get a pass from management for this one, because the time was right, but he shouldnt be fighting.

As for the hit?

IT WAS CLEAN RUFF!!!! he got caught admiring a pass and payed the price.
Ruff's actions of putting his goons on the ice is cowardly and unsportsman like (but makes for great tv)

Anyways, I'm not gonna spoil so read up if you guys get the chance.

It happens time to time. "previous years" look at the team we had? Last year, a rookie goaltender just about beat you. I wouldn't talk, you have no arguement. I don't care if we win this game or not, I still have my satisfaction of Drury going down and Emery winning a fight. Both well deserved with the dirt way the rest of sabers have played.

Phillips does pull his weight in most situations, but is obviously uncomfortable when it comes to fighting. Too bad. Someone with his size and strength could give this team an extra edge if he had the toughness to match.

Phillips only did what he needed to do. He's not the type that's going to fill in someone's face when he clearly has the upper hand. He first had Kaleta tied up with his head down and wasn't going to blast him then, and then he had him pinned to the ice and wasn't going to take advantage there either. Quite honestly it looked like a calf roping competition and Phillips was about to tie his ankles together. He could have filled him in quite easily and chose not to.

As much as I can't stand Kaleta and wanted him to get his but good tonight, I wouldn't have wanted it that way, and not from Phillips. Would have preffered it to be standing toe to toe with Neil or Fish.

why? does Peters wear a shield? When one player knocks another player's helmet off does he then always take his off? Not sure why it should be any different for Emery. Players fight with helmets on the majority of the time - emery's hands aren't any more precious than any other NHLer's.

If that was Martin Gerber, or Patty Lalime, or Jani Hurme, you can bet that someone would've stepped in.

Besides, why rob Emery of his hard earned opportunity to knock someone's head off. He's been itching to fight since management slapped his wrist for beating up too many players in the AHL.

THen along comes a certain Hab who runs him.... Emery forcefeeds him his stick and gets suspended for three games. On his first game,... he must have been just itching to go! Why deny him an opportunity he likely won't get again all season. ;)

Even though there were all the reasons why Emery would not have performed well in the Peters fight (just finished another fight, had the goalie equipment, Peters had his helmet on, Peters is quite the fighter in his own right, etc.) , how many here were hoping that he'd manage to drop Peters.

Unrealistic, yes, but, if he did, Emery would have vaulted to legendary status overnight.

diehard sabres fan here and i just want to give Emery his due. he was classy and took it easy on Marty when it was obvious he could have destroyed him, and then he took on Peters, and he did it all with a huge smile on his face. consider me a new fan of the player [if not the team]. excellent game. glad the sabres got the win, and both teams walk away with some points. i hope Buffalo meets [and beats] the Sens in the second round...

Ok buddy... This is not a chicken, it's a rooster. And I am a Sens fan. It's a referal to Emery's feistiness.
