Is it about that time?

With our team still struggling to find consistency, and considering the lingering injury woes to Mike Fisher - Is it about time to invest in a bonafied scoring spark plug to fill that LW void? I find that the root of our consistency problem is that there are too many finesse players up front. These guys rely on "the hot hand", and player-to-player chemistry more than anything, as a means to scoring. With guys like Mike Fisher (and at that, he's only counted on to score so much) out of the lineup for long stretches, there is a definite lack for a real scoring spark plug. There needs to be some kind of model for the team to show a payoff for consistent hard work. The scoring-banger fits this perfectly. In all fairness, which team isn't looking for this kind of player? To find this player, someone who has a knack for staying uninjured and who produces consistenly, you'll surely be paying for it. But is Ottawa in a position where they could afford to go out and get someone like this? I'm inclined to think that the benefits of an addition like this would outweight the cost.

How nice would an Erik Cole or Jeff O'Neill look on this team? At this point impossible, but a healthy Eric Daze would be pretty scary. Who is out there that could be made available?

Is Ottawa at a point where they should pull the trigger on shipping out some talent (a la Rachunek, a la Havlat) and some high draft picks for some real return?

Absolutely not. This team has all the talent it needs to succeed and it would not be a wise move to trade Havlat or Rachunek. The team has enough room for 3 all-star RWs and thus needs (or should have) 3 all-star RWs. The sens also have enough playing time for 5 top-3 defensemen and one potential top-3 defenseman. No core player needs to be traded and no core player will be traded. The only players who may get traded are Shastlivy, Pothier and perhaps Todd White.
