No Problem with the length of suspension. I still stand by my original statement that the NBA refs are the worst in all the pro sports.
Ar-too 04-17-2007, 12:55 PM Good. After all, Tim Duncan > Joey Crawford.
12# Peter Bondra 04-17-2007, 01:48 PM Can you imagine if they fought? :D

I would of liked Duncan's chances.

I know it's your opinion, but how is that? I think NBA officials are actually good. They make a few bad calls every once in awhile, but overall they're pretty fair. I like the NHL way more than the NBA, but NHL refs take the cake for being the worst in all of sports. ''Horrible'' is an understatement to how the NHL officiating has been this year.
Anyways, i'm glad Crawford got suspended. He got what he deserved. Maybe he'll retire...

Dont the hockey refs have a harder job than basketball refs though? :dunno:

I think they took a huge step back by giving technical fouls for players showing emotion about calls during the game. I can understand getting rid of the Whining (Rasheed Wallace comes to mind) but taking a key emotion out of the game by reacting to calls? That's too far. Why not just castrate the players while you're at it?
My other pet peeve of the NBA comes from a quote by Kevin Garnett at the conclusion of his Rookie season. This is probably the main reason why I don't like the NBA.
"They're (the NBA vets at the time) a bunch of old guys that foul alot".
This hasn't changed at all since that time and this is probably the main reason why I like College Basketball so much more than the pros.
Ajacied 04-17-2007, 02:59 PM Rightfully so. He should retire. That was the worst call I´ve ever seen in the NBA. Rediculous.. Most comical part was that it was on probably the nicest and most humble guy walking around in the sport right now.
took420s 04-17-2007, 03:00 PM Wow...I am really surprised at this.
Love it though cuz I hate Joey Crawford.
Wonder what Stern's reaction would have been if it were a different player?

If it had been Kobe, they would've given him a medal at next year's All-Star game ;).
Dr.Funk 04-17-2007, 05:18 PM The NBA refs are easily the best refs in the business, but they really took a step backwards this season when did started throwing technicals left and right when players just wanted an explanation on a foul call.
Vic Rattlehead* 04-17-2007, 05:27 PM Good. Duncan is probably one of the classiest players in the game.
Dr.Funk 04-17-2007, 05:32 PM I would say that Duncan is the biggest class act in the NBA.

No doubt.
TD's rep as a classy player definitely comes into play here. Although I have seen enough Laker/Spurs series to know that Timmy does his fair share of crying about the refs and making the pouty face.
As a Laker fan I am uber happy that Crawford is suspended...He is one of the most hated refs of Laker fans. At least Steve Javie is consistant with his conservative reffing so you know what you are gonna get, but Crawford would just take the game over at times IMO.
The best ref job is when at the end...you never even noticed them.
crackout 04-17-2007, 06:22 PM Stern said on PTI that is looks doubtful that he will return, as he apparently doesn't want to official in the league anymore. Might get talked back into, but I'd guess we've seen the last of him on court :handclap:

Youtube of the incident......man that was weak sauce. Duncan was just having fun :handclap: The Big Fundamental

Tell that to the Dallas Mavericks. The NBA refs might do a good job some of the time, but they have a tendency to give better and older players more calls than not. This is completely ridiculous, and, as consistant and good they can be at times, the way they do this easily keeps them from being the best.
As for the best, how bout MLB's umpires? Yeah, they blow a few balls and strikes, but judging some of them is pretty difficult. As for other plays, from what I remember on The Score they ended up blowing like 7 calls all season long. 7. Some refs of other sports do that in a single game, and they've got nearly 2,500, I believe. That's pretty damn impressive.
Jaysfanatic* 04-17-2007, 08:31 PM Well no one beats the NHL's refs, they are the absolute worst. I think NFL refs usually do a good job. But the state of affairs in the NHL is SO bad right now that I actually miss Kerry Fraser :help:
hockydude5000 04-17-2007, 08:59 PM I can never understand all the technical calls these days: I mean, I understand that they don't want trouble between the refs and the players, but if a player criticizes a referee publically, he shouldn't be fined. I think Stern is missing something about our great country: FREE SPEECH!!! :shakehead  What he and the refs are doing to the NBA is eliminating free speech and emotion from the game, which is very Orwellian (remember 1984 and the Party's persecution of thoughtcrime??) and shouldn't be allowed to happen. We might not agree with the players' opinions, but we should do our best to protect their free speech and prevent Stern from having Big Brother-like control over their emotions and minor rebellions. Don't get me wrong, I fully support suspensions due to a players' criminal act, but I don't support blocking free speech and nor should you, as it makes our country so great.

He said that on PTI? Man I gotta listen to the podcast of that. Stern spent the day at ESPN today.

Uncalled Traveling, uncalled double dribbles, superstar calls for 3-point shots with their feet over the lines. The list goes on and on. It's amazing they can sell a product like that and still draw fans. If I were commissioner, I'd find a way to remove the 'I'm old and/or Lazy I'll just foul players when I get beat all the time' calls by calling fouls on the lazy ***** and focus on the younger players and the speed and passion they bring to the sport.
I doubt the NBA Fastbreak on ESPN crew would ever talk about this. At last check they were stuffing their faces with doughnuts. Perhaps why the older players in the NBA get beat so often...too many doughnuts.
Well off to Jamba Juice and a workout.
