Will he stick with the Caps and continue playing or will he be sent back down to the AHL?

With Charpentier suffering from that hip (?) injury, someone will have to fill in for him for awhile. So Ouellet will stay for a bit. I suppose he and Stana could take turns being Kolzig's backup, with one in Washington and one in Portland, but I imagine Ouellet will stay until Charpy is healthy. And if Kolzig is traded by some chance, then Ouellet is up for good.

Has Kolzig been as bad as his numbers would indicate?

No. His numbers indicate the bad defense.

He's a victim of our lack of exprience on D and all around horrible play by the team but he's not completely innocent

So with bout max and stana seeing nhl time, is charpy pretty much the odd man in DC and go back to the minors or will the caps keep him as kolzig's backup?

Kolzig has been as bad as his numbers indicate. At least to some extent.
Kolzig is an emotional player, which is great in many circumstance, but he takes losing oftely hard. This is the first time he has played on a team this bad. This is the first time that he has played with so many inexperienced defensemen. He is used to 4 quality veteran defensemen and 2 quality veteran role player defensemen. This year he has a rookie and 3 unproven journeymen in front of him everynight. At times he has just not adjusted to that well and the losing has beaten him down. Bad goal, soft goals have happened all too often.

On the otherhand you can see that to a point the team has needed the best that Kolzig has to win a game. Kolzig has played in 8 Caps wins and 2 ties. He has been the first or second star in 5 of those 10 games.

Its possible now that Hanlon has a better idea of how to use this group of persponel to the best. And by doing so, rebuild Kolzig's shakey confidence. Kolzig helped himself in that regard last night. Stopping Niewendyk on the 2 on 0 during OT could have done wonders for him.
That was an example the collosal breakdowns this defense is capable of.
