WoodGundy 12-20-2003, 08:37 AM NESN camerawork is so bad, I may have to watch football. Hill needs to learn how to hit the net.
HughJass* 12-20-2003, 08:54 AM Hill needs to learn how to hit the net.
I thought I was the only one who ever noticed that Hill shots never hit the net. :joker:
I just got home, missed all but :22 seconds of the 1st period. What did I miss?
WoodGundy 12-20-2003, 08:59 AM I just got home, missed all but :22 seconds of the 1st period. What did I miss?
The white dots seems to be outplaying the yellow specks, but I'm not sure from this angle. And I know it's only game two, but it seems you can't coach finish!
HughJass* 12-20-2003, 09:02 AM ...but it seems you can't coach finish!
Hehe. If the boys stick to what Lavs is teaching, the goals will come :) I see Boston is still in their funk though. If the Canes score two quick goals that could seriously break the B's backs.
HughJass* 12-20-2003, 09:04 AM OMG! Staal should have pulled the trigger faster! He probably he was surprised he was all alone like that. The B's defense is looking bad today, eh?
Goal! Vrbata! B's looking bad...
WoodGundy 12-20-2003, 09:08 AM B's looking bad...
Agreed. Here's hoping they don't wake up today.
WoodGundy 12-20-2003, 09:27 AM That viscious "hold" by Brind'Amour on Moran that Kohorski couldn't defend against a review board looks like interefence by the D to me. Need to be watching NESN to know what I mean.
Vagrant 12-20-2003, 09:33 AM If we're going to have any extended success, we need to figure out how to score on the powerplay. If we lose this game, you can blame it on the anemic powerplay.

Yeah. It's not good when you have many chances to put a good team away and you don't capitalize. Hopefully the Hurricanes don't go into the dreaded laid back defensive shell trying to protect this one goal lead.
Skydog 12-20-2003, 09:42 AM That viscious "hold" by Brind'Amour on Moran that Kohorski couldn't defend against a review board looks like interefence by the D to me. Need to be watching NESN to know what I mean.
Oh, I understand.
Vrbata shoots on net stopped by Raycroft.
MURRAY SHOOTS ON NET, OH MY, HOW COULD WEEKES HAVE STOPPED THAT!?
WoodGundy 12-20-2003, 09:43 AM How bad is Boston going right now? This sums it up...Vasicek blows by two Boston players in a footrace in which he had given up a good ten foot head start, eliciting a startled cry from the Bruins announcer, "Now this guy can skate!"
HughJass* 12-20-2003, 09:48 AM Yeah, this team needs to score the game-breaking next goal. I like what I see, though. Canes are actually going to the net on the PP, and they are using their sticks in the lane very, very well. This is what I expect from a blue line of this calibur. If they keep beating teams to the puck in the attacking zone like this then the goals will come. And I also love the fact that the d-men are pinching in with regularity. It seems like the team knows what it's doing instictively at all times. For most part of this season the team has looked lost at times. If they pull out the win today then we can start building on something really, really positive.
Points after the 2nd period:
-Boulerice floored Doull with that second punch after he got up. Look into his eyes....their is no fear in the Bull!
- Moran purposely interfered with Brind A'mour. He slowed down and stuck his back leg out to block out Rod.
- Weekes' explosive lateral movement and rapier like glove showed up today. Can you say shutout #5?
- I didn't notice one shift when Craig Adams was on the ice. That's the type of Canes hockey I'm talking about! :yo:
Skydog 12-20-2003, 09:49 AM If we're going to have any extended success, we need to figure out how to score on the powerplay. If we lose this game, you can blame it on the anemic powerplay.
Very true, 0 for 5 is bad......but the powerplay has looked good. A lot of diagonal passes through the box and O'Neill looks pretty good on the point (or at least better than Vrbata). They need to finish but the pp at least looks promising.
HughJass* 12-20-2003, 10:01 AM There it is! Staal scores! B's getting boo'd in their own building.
I guarantee you this game gets nasty the final minutes of the game. Guaranteed. Weekes taunting shooters, Boynton trying to take out Craig Adams knee, Thornton pushing down Staal after he scores. The B's look like they aren't trying to win. Let the fists fly, and another Thornton suspension involving the Canes :D
HughJass* 12-20-2003, 10:07 AM Can someone tell me how Sean Hill picked up a penalty when Lapointe slashed Glen Wesley?
HughJass* 12-20-2003, 10:14 AM Why does bad line changes always seem to bite us in the ass? LOL
Too get off this game for a minute, I want to bring up something I just saw. Tony Amonte is clipped by Kenny Jonsson's stick. The only reason Jonsson's stick gets to Tony's face is because Amonte went to retaliate for a push Jonsson gave him when the whistle blew. The refs penalize Jonsson, and not Amonte. I just find that a tad unfair, and a bit inconsistent.
Back to the game: Canes back on the PP. Thank you :)
HockeyGoddess 12-20-2003, 10:18 AM B's getting boo'd in their own building.
*grin* This is nothing new the past several weeks at the FleeceCenter. :D
HockeyGoddess 12-20-2003, 10:32 AM Congrats to the Hurricanes. Weekes was un-freakin-believable for the Canes today.
HughJass* 12-20-2003, 10:33 AM Hey, HockeyGoddess, I haven't seen you posting on OffThePost in awhile. Btw, any updates on Girard?
Still in the learning stages of new coaching, the Canes have pulled out 2 wins. There are alot of rough edges still but there are also signs of improvement. We caught the Bruins in a down period (we caught them hot last time and still beat them) so we should have won this game.
Sorry about that guarantee :) Course, I was expecting the Canes to go up 3-0. Staal could have had a hat trick if he didn't miss those two point blank shots.
The RBC is sold out for the 22nd against the Stars. See you guys here, or I'll see you on tv ;)
No more bad camera job by NESN, and no more announcers picking on Koharski for doing his job. I thought it was a well officiated game, except for the Hill penalty. Then again, I never saw the replay.
WoodGundy 12-20-2003, 10:42 AM Multiple choice:
What was the worst call of the game?
A. Too many men against the 'Canes though they only had 5 on the ice when the puck was touched.
B. No too many men call against the B's while on a two-on-one.
C. No call when Boynton intentionally takes out Adams after the whistle.
D. When the B's announcer said, "Well if you're a Hurricanes fan, you love Sean Hill..."
WoodGundy 12-20-2003, 10:44 AM D.
And honorable mention to the quick whistle on the potential tying goal.
HughJass* 12-20-2003, 10:53 AM A) Ok call. Vasicek's replacement was on the ice before he should have been. From what I could see. Then again, NESN didn't really did a good replay on it.
B) Missed calls like that happen. There was heavy traffic in front of the net, everyone had their eyes on that. Makes more sense for the back linesman to watch out for that kind of thing, though. Non-calls like two-many men are frequent, though.
C) Bad call. I don't understand what happened their, but Adams could have seriously got hurt on that. It looked very bad when it happened.
D) Bad call. No one likes Sean Hill :)
E) Good call. Koharski couldn't see the puck so he blew the whistle. From the angle he had Weekes looks like he had the puck.
Skydog 12-20-2003, 10:59 AM D) Bad call. No one likes Sean Hill
Incorrect, the Bruins announcer's said we do so it must be true. ;)
WoodGundy 12-20-2003, 10:59 AM A) Ok call. Vasicek's replacement was on the ice before he should have been.
Not that it matters now, but the man who eventually touched the puck was 10 ft from it when Joe hit the bench. Would have been painful if Boston had eventually tied it. Not sure if you deserve to win a game when you are 0-7 on the PP, but we'll take it.
HughJass* 12-20-2003, 11:17 AM Incorrect, the Bruins announcer's said we do so it must be true. ;)
hehe
Magnus Fulgur 12-20-2003, 12:09 PM I agree with you on these missed calls, and the Boynton non call was terrible. But there were terrible calls the other way too. Koharsky was sucktastic both ways, but he always is: he has no control over his games.

Yeah, he was brutal. But all of my complaining was just a vehicle to poke fun at the announcer saying all 'Canes fans love Sean Hill when really we want to run him out of town.

Plan 9 12-20-2003, 07:08 PM I didn't get to listen to the game today.. Just happy that they managed to pull out another win. Especially against the Bruins. Oh how I loathe the Bruins.
HockeyGoddess 12-20-2003, 08:14 PM Hey, HockeyGoddess, I haven't seen you posting on OffThePost in awhile. Btw, any updates on Girard?
I'm still posting over there... just not all that often. Too many miscreants to deal with on a regular basis. :D They're good folks, but they seem awfully touchy when someone disagrees with them or corrects an error. :)
Haven't heard any updates on Jonathan lately other than that he's still rehabbing and will have to undergo yet another surgery (abdominal) in the near future. :( Poor kid... I really hope he comes out of this whole ordeal okay.
HughJass* 12-21-2003, 04:11 PM Thanks for the update. I hope the guy pulls through!
Yeah, I truly understand how you feel about a couple of the B's fans on OffThePost. ;)
