paul99 12-22-2003, 08:52 PM According to Sport-Express, Semin had a conflict with the coach: http://www.sport-express.ru/art.shtml?79311
First there was the Zherdev affair, now this one. It is not good for the mental preparation of the players. It is not good for Russian Team.

It's good news for Krikunov, more playing time, increased role, and more PP time. :yo:

According to Sport-Express, forward of Washington Capitals Alexander Semin will not be on Russia's Junior team during World Championship in Finland. Head coach of the team Rafail Ishmatov said: "We warned him once, then we had to take him off the roster right during the game (after one shift). On Sunday he again broke the norm - missed the evening practice. The discipline was broken twice - National team does not need such players.
Semin himself did not want to comment on that. He said: "nothing is for sure yet".

Kegger 12-23-2003, 04:43 AM I think it has something to do with his contract. Semin may not be allow to practice on a non-NHL team. Because I read further that Washington warned him 90K if he does it. And if he is injurred, he will not get any of his remaining contract from Washington this season. Or am I off base?

According to the last issue of Sport-Express newspaper Semin was included in the final roster of Russian team for WJC. Krutov, Panin and one i can't recall who were last cuts from the team.
The conflict between the player and head coach Ishmatov was decided in a peaceful way due to the interference of other players of Russian team, who asked Ishmatov to let Semin stay in the squad.
Beware of crazy Russians !!! Here we go !!!

I am not sure about this one. During training games Ovechkin was on the same line with Pestunov (center) and Shkotov. Maybe Ishmatov trying to make Russian team more balanced ? :teach:
But no doubt that in the key moments Ovechkin, Malkin and Semin (Krikunov or Anshakov) will'be on the ice together.
SIBIR 12-23-2003, 01:04 PM God bless the russian team spirit! SEMIN is on board! YEAH!!!!!!
one thing is sure SEMIN has a strong character, he is no softie :D

Soyuz 12-23-2003, 03:12 PM Yeah - definitely - here are a couple of things I got from RussianProspects (www.russianprospects.com)
Soviet Wings Recap:
Friendly Game: Soviet Wings vs. U20 Team Russia 5:4 (2:0; 2:1; 1:3)
Notes: This was an interesting contest for the Russian National Team, as several of it’s members started the contest on the Soviet Wings side of the ice. Dmitri Pestunov, Evgenii Malkin, Denis Ezhov, Sergei Gimayev and Andrei Spiridonov skated for the WIngs, allowing some of the other Team Russia players to skate in the same game and attempt to earn roster spots. These five players already earned roster spots, and were not at risk. After Semin did not come out after the first period, Pestunov switched teams back to the Russian squad, centering the top line and wearing his usual #10 worn earlier in the game by Semin. Denis Khudyakov started the game for U20 Team Russia and will be Barulin's backup at the U20 WJC, leaving Nashville Predators prospect Rustam Sidikov as the odd goalie out.
Goals: 1:0 Sergei Gimayev (Evgenii Malkin - 0:53); 2:0 Dmitri Semenov (Stepan Mokhov – 15:05); 3:0 Evgenii Pasternatsky (Renat Kharetdinov – 21:58); 3:1 Ilya Krikunov (Evgenii Tunik, Sergei Anshakov – 27:32) 4:1 Evgenii Pasternatsky (Dmitri Semenov – 39:18); 4:2 Alexander Ovechkin (Alexei Shkotov – 44:00) 4:3 Dmitri Pestunov* (Alexei Shkotov, Alexander Ovechkin – 45:30); 4:4 Evgenii Tunik (unassisted – 46:47); 5:4 Mikhail Deev (Roman Voloshenko, Pavel Kanarsky – 50:03);
Goales: Vladimir Kulikov – Denis Khudyakov
Penalties: 12 - 10

Yesterday Sport Express newspaper reported that several days before the U20 WJC, Washington Capitals forward Alexander Semin was cut by the team’s head coach, Alexander Ishmatov. Yesterday, the head coach changed his mind, reversing a potentially mortal decision for Russia’s U20 squad. Semin commented the follows to SE correspondent Alexander Shapiro: “When you called earlier, I chose not to comment on the situation, hoping that I would remain with the squad. I am grateful to the guys, who were able to convince the coach that I am needed by the team...Of course I was very disappointed.[when I was cut – Author] Especially, since the formulation that I violated the team rules. I am honestly happy, that the coach changed his mind. I always dreamed to play for the Russian national team at the U20 WJC.”
