Could someone tell me what if any prospects are on this team? Any '04 or '05 guys on the team? Malkin maybe? I ask cause I got a game of theres on tape against CSKA. Thanks.
btw, there were some very impressive goals scored by some of the Magnitagorsk players, and Mozyakin had 2 nice ones in the loss for CSKA.

I know there are lots of prospects in Magnitogorsk. They have strong youth teams and the 87' team in particular is a very strong one. I doubt these players are in the first team though.

Evgeny Gladskikh is a good player when given an opportunity by the coach to show his skills.

He has to be right up there, although that's just from what I've heard, I've never seen him play live yet.

What's been the problem for Kaigorodov this season. He had 24 points last year, and has only 4 this year. Any explanation.

I was enough fortunate to be at the last WJC. Malkin was excellent! Two of his teammates said he was like a computer on the ice... always calculating at a very fast speed the best option offered to make a play.
Pestunov centered Ovechkin at the WJC. Both didn't have the success observers expected from them.
Keep this in mind: Ovechkin will be the first drafted at the next NHL Entry Draft but don't be surprise if Malkin has a better carreer than him in NHL. I would not have thought that a year ago but it does not appear an improbable scenario now.

Aside this, after the tournament, some Russians players had, off the record, harsh words about Russian coach Ishmatov. They also said D man Konstantin Korneev should have been named team captain.

I wouldn't compare Ovechkin and Malkin at the moment. Ovechkin is already a star in the RSL and he will play at the WC.
Malkin is a great prospect, but not more ...
The future of the both players is UNCERTAIN. All can happen.

Ishmatov deserves to be fired for his attitude and the poor performances of the team. Eugene wrote an article on that few days ago on the mckeens website.
IMO, Ishmatov is probably the sole to be held responsible for the debacle.
- He got into conflicts with any dominating player. Over a year and half, he got into conflicts with the 3 best 84 players (chronologically, Babchuk, Zherdev, and Semin. Not the best way to build a team. Had also a conflict with Shevyev who was the captain and hardworking reference of the team.
- he departed from all the work done in the past by the other coachs (particularly Ishkakov). he did not redo any of the associations that worked greatly in the past (e.g., Krikunov-Ovechkin when they played with Ignatushkin at the U18 2 years ago, Ovechkin-Malkin at the last U18, or Anshakov-Semin-Kazionov). He did not rely on the historical 84 team that Ishkakov got to play together for years with the 84 team and Elemash, except few exceptions.
- he put together guys who never really played together because the previous coachs of the 84 and 85 teams realized they never clicked (e.g., Pestunov with Ovechkin, Shkotov and Ovechkin).
- He overevaluated some players. Plestunov has always been good in a 3rd line-4th line center role but has never shown the potential to be a first line player. Same for Shkotov who clicked in the past only with Zherdev and SHevyev. Same for Grot. The guy is good on a 3rd line, not the 1st. Same for Shafigulin on a 3rd line...
- He did not do any effort to get Zherdev on the team when Zherdev said he wanted to play in Finland even though he was with Columbus.
- He got Semin off the team because he refused to play when he was sick...
- He selected guys who clearly did not have the level (Karpov, Tyulyapkin, Kozhevnikov, Ermolin,).
- He did not realize how his defense was lacking physical presence (combined with quickness).
- He got his GK to be subject twice to long jet lags within 6 weeks before the WJC...the whole Re/Max tourney being an embarassing joke to which he should have sais no.
- he selected Khudyakov who is a goalie who has shown over the years his inability to steal games.
- Did not give much ice time to guys like Kazionov and few others who were having great seasons.
- Did everything possible to make his players lack confidence including pointing individually at players for poor perfromance
- No offensive or defensive clear or efficient tactic.
- Lack of preparation/study of the game of the opponents.
- PK team lacking automatisms.
- Using tourneys in the 6 months before the event to only test players rather than try to create automatisms between established players.
- lack of psychological motivation and leadership.
- Average PP.
You can guess that I am pretty disappointed by this poor performance... I start regretting Plyushev...
