Teemu 01-03-2004, 05:59 PM What team (US or Canada) are you rooting for? Although one would assume that the americans would be for USA and Canadians would be for canada, it seems to be more derived from where their teams prospects are.
So...
Which team are you rooting for?
Im rooting for america sheerly because of The Wiz Kid, James Wisniewski. Id be rooting for Canada if he played there, though :p
FlyersFan 01-03-2004, 07:26 PM I'm going for Canada. Carter, Richards, plus its where I live, so its a no-brainer. If Carter and Richards played on team USA I'd still go for Canada.
GO CANADA!!!!!
BCCHL inactive 01-03-2004, 07:28 PM I don't want to be jumpy on the issue.....but keep it clean here. I will be watching this thread.
FlyersGuy69 01-03-2004, 07:36 PM USA
I would like to see Carter & Richards do well though.

Just to give you some support while half this board is sharpening their knives for you, I understand where you're coming from. I'm much more interested in seeing how my team's players do in tournaments than rooting for the US, but once my "boys" are out (which they are in this one), then I'll root for the US. If there are guys on more than one team, well, it's more to cheer for for me. :)
Dark Mavis 01-03-2004, 07:53 PM Canada!
Hockeycrazed07 01-03-2004, 08:10 PM Can I hope for a tie? :p (NO SHOOTOUT, PLEASE!)
~Crazed.
Superstar Shane 01-03-2004, 08:17 PM Personally, I don't care that 3 Pens prospects are playing for Canada. I want USA to win. Although I was hoping for Mario to win gold at the Olympics.
punchy1 01-03-2004, 08:27 PM I am just happy that the best teams are playing in the top game in the best tourney in the world. The best players for both countries are there and we will see who is better coached and better staffed and further along in thier programs and that is all that matters to me.
I get to watch Tambellini play against Brady Murray so I win all the way around there. I get to tell my devil mates that I were wrong when I said that Brady was as good as Parise and let them have a laugh at me for it in good sport. Well, the ncaa stats for the two don't show Parise to be the clear winner but his play in this tourney does without doubt.
So, my loyalty is to hockey and the great game that I get to watch. Brilliant.
gb701 01-03-2004, 08:34 PM I know several of the Canadian players so am rooting for them personally - but I would always cheer for Canada regardless! :p
Let's hope for a great game with the right result - the return of Gold to Canada! :handclap:
punchy1 01-03-2004, 08:54 PM Well mate, the "right result" will be the best team winning. That bit will sort itself out. It isn't USA or Canada that is the "right result". It is the best team winning and come the end of the game, the "right result" will have happened.
;) Cheers.
Jeff Goldblum 01-03-2004, 09:07 PM I root for whatever team has a Pens prospect :-).
So...Canada, Russia, Switzerland, Czech Rep.! Can't go wrong!
punchy1 01-03-2004, 09:11 PM How about Anshankov eh mate? Dandy like I said he were. Straka tied the game in the final seconds for the Kings so that bit is brilliant for them too. Solid deal for both clubs it seems.
gb701 01-03-2004, 09:46 PM Well mate, the "right result" will be the best team winning. That bit will sort itself out. It isn't USA or Canada that is the "right result". It is the best team winning and come the end of the game, the "right result" will have happened.
;) Cheers.
I have to be a "fan" once in a while - the "right result" will be a win for the good guys.
Cheers back at you. :rolly:
punchy1 01-03-2004, 09:57 PM Yes, the "good guys" are the ones that will win the game. whichever country that is.
;)
DJ Spinoza 01-03-2004, 10:01 PM I don't really like either team, but because there are three Penguins prospects on Canada I will root for them I guess.
Once the playoffs were set, I was rooting for the underdog, Finland, even though there are no Penguins prospects on that team. Before that, Switzerland because of Bartschi.
Epsilon 01-03-2004, 10:07 PM I don't care either way, I only watch WJCs for prospect evaluation and to get a look at some future NHL guys. The only "cheering" I've done during this tournament has been for the Red Wings' prospects (Filppula, Hulder, Meech, etc.). In some ways I wouldn't mind seeing the USA win because they never have before, their developmental system deserves some recognition of this form, and this is probably their best shot at winning.
Jeff Shafer 01-04-2004, 02:32 AM Canada even though I'm from the US I love Canada's team.
Jussi 01-04-2004, 03:19 AM I'm rooting for Canada. The Yanks lost my support with their diving antics against Finland.
I'll be rooting for Canada...
This U-20 team Canada brought to the tourney this year is a great combination of heart, grit and determination.
punchy1 01-04-2004, 06:17 AM I take offence to your statement about USA using diving tactics any more than the Fins or most of the teams have in this tourney. Saying that sort of thing is in my opinion taking a cheap shot that isn't true and can only be taken as offencive.
I have to wonder if you would ever support usa to begin with. I hope that my response doesn't offend you or anyone else as I am merely trying to respond to what I feel isn't a correct statement and do not mean to offend and if I have I am sorry in advance and if you pm me I will take down the offencive post asap.
I just think that it appears that you are making a statement that doesn't have merit and is aimed to having a piss at the yanks who you wouldn't have supported to begin with but, if that is offencive then as I said, let me know so I can apologize and remove the post with haste.
Cheers.
KariyaIsGod* 01-04-2004, 08:25 AM I'm cheering for Team Canada. DOWN WITH THE USA!
canucksfan 01-04-2004, 08:26 AM Canada and I'm glad both North America teams are in the final.
IceMelter 01-04-2004, 08:42 AM Oh Canada! http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0903/travesmilies/flaggen1/smilie_flagge17.gif
USA is going down! http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0903/aetsch/cheeky-smiley-021.gif
Looking forward to a great game between the two, should be awesome to watch, and I actually don't have to get up at 5 too watch this one!
Enoch 01-04-2004, 09:31 AM U.S., but I can't wait to see the final. I would LOVE to see a shootout.
Vlad The Impaler 01-04-2004, 11:37 AM I'm rooting for my country and it helps that this time, the selection process for team Canada was not as crappy as usual.

heh
i was kinda wondering what people from outside of north america were rooting for in this one, too

Slats432 01-04-2004, 12:41 PM It is the dream Gold Medal Game for me.
A Proud Canadian hoping we win Gold with our best friends in the Finals with their much maligned program.
Here's hoping for a great game and may the best team win.
Good luck USA.
Marshall 01-04-2004, 12:50 PM Usa
cagney 01-04-2004, 01:06 PM I would root for Team USA over Team Canada even if every player on Canada was a Ranger prospect and every player on the US team was an Islander or Devil prospect. It's not because I dislike Canada at all either. I just really take a lot of pride in international sports. Maybe because I feel like these kids are representing me more than any Ranger ever has.

Couldnt have said it better, just slide the blues and wings in there.
Bud The Spud* 01-04-2004, 01:30 PM My allegiance always lies with my country.

maximil 01-04-2004, 03:48 PM U.S.A.
But seriously, all I care about is seeing a good game.
Hockeypuck 01-04-2004, 03:51 PM My allegiance always lies with my country.Agreed. It has nothing to do with who's prospects play for who,but pride in your country. That being said GO USA :D
Le Golie 01-04-2004, 07:30 PM If the entire USA team was made up of Islander prospects, I'd still be cheering for Team Canada, no doubt about it.
chicpea* 01-04-2004, 07:41 PM U.S., but I can't wait to see the final. I would LOVE to see a shootout.
Are you kidding me?!? Shootouts are so unfair and well, quite lame (i think). It is a sh**ty way to lose for any team - and I have been on both sides so I know. O.T. is the most fair by far. If you just meant, "shootouts are exciting" well then, yeah, I agree. And if Bettman could have his way we wouldn't even have games probably - just 3 periods of shootouts (with glowing pucks ;) ).
Anyway, Let the best team (four lines and six D) win.

Anyway, Let the best team (four lines and six D) win.Shootouts suck big time. I say play 120 minutes of ot if that's what it takes to decide it. Shootouts are individual and not a team.

A shootout is a bad way to decide a winner, however as a Canadian I'd be pretty confident going into a shootout against anyone with MAF in net.
Can Dawes go five times?
Aver33 01-04-2004, 09:25 PM Fire in our hearts. Gold in our eyes. Go Canada Go!
Yammer 01-05-2004, 11:02 AM Well, Canada, because of very mild nationalist sentiment and being fed up with the "what is wrong with Canadian hockey" navel-gazing stories that pollute the newspapers for months after a Canuck loss.
However, I was pleased that Ryan Kesler got the tying goal today because he plays for my hometown NHL team. With this confidence-boosting score to go with his already proficient skating and checking, Kesler could be the best Canuck draftee since Mattias Ohlund in 1994.
