Is Fernandez Available?

Sorry if this has been brought up before.

Is Fernandez available from Minnesota? If he is, what would your GM expect from the Flyers in a trade?

I would think something would revolve around Nittymaki (good young goalie) and a center or defenseman to help Minnesota make a push for the playoffs.

I think he is (his contract is up this year I think). I'm honestly surprised we've kept both he and Roli this long as it is.

I would say our biggest need is a good puck moving D-man, tho a center that could actually set people up and win a faceoff wouldn't hurt my feelings. Not sure we need more goalies atm.

"That was purely contractual," he said. "Roli was unrestricted. Do you think he'd sign for one year? Both were utilizing their negotiating position."

If it were up to me, I'm not sure we'd do it unless it's clear we're out of the playoffs. I wouldn't see a Manny trade happening in order to make a push for the playoffs. Of course, now might be a good time to start working something, since both goalies are playing so well.

Its interesting to think about. Hitchcock does have a history with Fernandez from Dallas, I think. Fernandez had a great playoff last year. And the Flyers need someone with at least some good playoff experience, but it seems that Manny never had a chance to prove himself.

I'm sure there could be something worked out. Of course, like it's been mentioned a defenseman would have to be part of the package. And the Flyers have many draft picks, that too could be involved but I don't think Nittymaki would interest DR in any way.

I would definitely have to agree that a goalie waiting in the wings is not what the doctor ordered. We need any help we can get in all other positions thought, not just d-men. D-men is my first priority but we have little depth through the system in all positions, except for maybe goalie, that doesn't have potential at the end of there bio.
