Ruutu having knee-problems again? That is very bad news. I'm hoping quick recovery, but it doesn't look too good.

He is listed as day-to-day and they expect him to skate tonight in the pre-season finale. It isn't a big injury. They are just not risking any injury before the season starts.

A quick note from one of Kuc's articles.

"Havlat skated Sunday and said his groin felt better than it had Saturday. He said he hoped to be ready for the opener. ... Ruutu also skated and is day-to-day."

At least they are back on the ice..

so is havlat a go ?

You'd have to ask him, Tallon or Savard.

All we (the fans) know is that Havlat has been missing games for precautionary reasons due to a 'non-serious' groin tweak.

The fact that he is skating again is a positive, but I doubt we find out whether he's in or not until game day. The same goes for Ruutu and Toews.

can Ruutu ever stay healthy for the entire pre-season / off season?

you'd rather him play through the pain?

if you mess up your groin you can't skate. havlat's game is all about speed.....if he's playing through the pain he's going to be useless and slow

Yeah i'm sure the team want their star player to play through the pain so that he can play in a few meaningless pre season games...

I think the problem is just the make up of Havlats as a person.

I question his strength. Not mental or anything, but I don't know how much muscle he really has. He's obviously fit and strong, but when I look at guys like Alfie on the Sens, he's small, but he never gets hurt. He's got one tough body on him, and they are similar style of players

You can only have Havlat healthy, but if I was his fitness trainer, I'd be wondering, why are you so fragile like glass.....

I think a player goes through a maturity process in terms of conditioning that Havlat has not hit yet. There is a lot of player that you would stay away from in hockey pools because of their injury prone nature. Havlat is definetly considered one of those guys.
Marc Savard a few years ago was in the same category but he has improved his offseason workout program and is a guy that has stayed away from the injury bug the last few years.

Could you imagine Havlats #'s if he chose to do the same?

I don't mean that he should play through the pain , he just needs to toughen up and not get injured so easily.

Chicago's Martin Havlat, whose career has been marked by a series of injuries, hurt his shoulder on a punch in a scrum late in the third period. Savard said Havlat was injured trying to protect himself, and Havlat - who was sent for X-rays - was wearing a sling.

I mean....c'mon!! You cannot last one game?!?!

Is this the same shoulder he injured in Ottawa? Maybe it is weakened...

He has always had injury issues....but not as bad as they were the last few seasons.

Its a shame, he is easily one of the most entertaining players in the league...soo explosive.

Where are the Hawks fans? Is this board representative of Chicago in general and it's apparent non-interest in hockey? Is this Wirtz's legacy?

I sincerely hope that Havlat gets his body right. As he's shown in his career he's one hell of a player and it'd be incredibly cruel to have his body prevent him from doing what he does best.

They/we post more at - the official site boards, The 300 level or wirtzsucks.com.

I don't really know why more haven't signed up here. I guess that frequenting one board is enough for most..

I was at the game and every time I saw Havlat get bumped I thought to myself there's 6-8 weeks.

It seems like the Hawks have a history of association with these glass-bodied players. Can anyone give us a list? Could this be the largest factor in the franchise's downfall ?

From a North Star's fan point of view I recall trading for Curt Fraser (exchanged for "Dirty Dirk") was a big waste because the guy was always injured.

That's easily veto worthy, as the terms of the deal changed significantly before you had an opportunity to rescind your offer. Push hard for a veto - you should get one.

If the trade offer was accepted before the injury, or the offer was made after the injury, that's a different story.

For instance - imagine I'm selling my car to you. You come and look at the car, and submit make me an offer. A tree falls on the car. Then, I tell you I accept your offer.

The league admin should support your argument. Good luck.

That's the point. The injury announcement happens just after the trade has ended his veto period, meaning the trade occured. And it's a Yahoo "robot" league, without any league management.

Well, you know, I think I'll live with that. It's part of the game, and part of wanting Havlat, I guess... Problem is, my injury slot is allready occupied by JS Gigučre... Hope Havlat won't be out too long. Any news about it?

not to be all gloom and doom. his shoulder didn't seem 100% this summer. i could see another surgery being needed and this season being scratched :(

I drafted Havlat, and it was a gas,
Soon turned out, he was a man of glass.
Start of the season, he was fine
Shoulder popped out, now he's in a bind
Thought I was doing great, the pool was mine,
Havlat is gone, now I'm behind.
It seemed like first place was going to be mine,
His shoulder popped out, I'm far behind.

I drafted Havlat, and it was a gas,
Soon turned out to be a pain in the ass.

So is there anything official about Havlat's injury?

The latest word is that they hope it's a strain that doesn't require surgery.

More detailed scan results are due today, and they will determine the next course of action.

- LW Tuomo Ruutu (knee) missed the season opener but will play Saturday in the home opener vs. Detroit.

- C Jonathan Toews (broken finger) will resume skating Sunday and is expected to be 100% to face San Jose on Wednesday, Oct. 10.

Injured Reserve

- Andrei Zyuzin (groin) has been placed on injured reserve but will likely play next Wednesday vs. San Jose, according to GM Dale Tallon. Zyzuin participated in drills Friday.

So is there anything official about Havlat's injury?

His man-gina was pulled in an unusual event of playing hard.

His doctor, Dr. A-lex-to-make-up-injury-**** Karpotsev, has told him to rest his injury until he feels like playing again.

Good luck Marty, I hope you bring in a decent return in a trade one day.
