When was this thing erected? How soon after it was put up did Allison get injured? Could it really be cursed?

Wasn't it against Phoenix early in the 2001-02 season? That would make it one year before all the injuries.

But if it was against Phoenix early in the 2002-03 season, that would be eerily coincidental.

Yank it down or paint it like Gene Simmons! Anything to try and take away the curse!

I believe it was 2002-03 when they retired Gretzky's number, they unveiled the statue.

The plot gets thicker! The curse of the great one.

STATUE

"The fans deserve a lot of the credit for me having this night here tonight because of their support, not only for the L.A. Kings, but for Wayne Gretzky. They proved that this is not only a good sports city, it's a good hockey city."

Despite having his number retired, Gretzky, who now lives in the Los Angeles area, was not cheering for his old team last night. The opponents were the Phoenix Coyotes -- the team that is 20% Gretzky-owned.

To commemorate the occasion, the Kings unveiled a bronze statue of Gretzky outside the Staples Center. The Kings also played in their old Gretzky-era sweaters last night.

October 9th, 2002.

This is kind of freaking me out. What if there really is something to this?

Someone send an exorcist out to the statue or something! Throw holy water on it, whatever... just get the bad spirits out of Staples!

If I actually thought the statue had anything to do with the injuries, I would pull that thing down, and draw and quarter it myself!

Keel haul too? (I actually saw that happen on accident to a fellow while sailing once. He was at the bow holding an aft line and slipped over. He get hauled to the stern as he panic and forgot to let go of the line. His back were a bloody mess)

I would fly off to holliday and paint/yank (no pun intended) it down myself if I thought it true.

BRILLIANT POST MATE!

I laughed hard at that one. Well, nothing against the greatest offencive player of all time or what he done for us but that statue might be evil or cursed.I were left thinking about the Montey Python movie where they were after trying to prove this bird a witch.

"Burn it! Burn the Witch! Burn it!" Of course, they decide that wood floats and witched burn so they must be made of wood and if the shiela floated she were a witch so they put her and a duck in some water to find out.

Maybe that is what we should be after doing. Lets put the great ones statue in the water, through in Balogna Creek. If it floats then its a witch and we should burn it!

That was also the same year they moved the shield to the third jerseys and the crown to the home and away. Maybe the shields were protecting the Kings but not anymore.

Somebody should just chop off it's head. Perhaps a little harsh but it's the only solution. To steal the statue, how it often happens, is a little bit difficult..

Maybe they should just switch to full plate armor.

Did anyone else see Sykora's head first crash into the boards last night in overtime? If he was a King, he would be gone for the year, but he's not so he is perfecty okay.

I'm trying to think, how many of the Kings' injuries have occured on home ice versus on the road? Could it be the Staples Center ice conditions?

I say we sell it on ebay and hopefully a Avalanche or Ducks fan buys it.
