Well I sure don't want him back on the Caps! Too bad we don't have an ECHL affiliate anymore.

Can't we just send him to wherever the hell Glen Metropolit is?

No kidding. He's a perfect fit for any Euro team. I'm shocked he even wanted to stay here the way he plays. He's certainly skilled but god is he gutless and soft.

Okay I am lost. Why isn't Ciernik a fan favorite in Washington??

I think it has something to do with being gutless and soft. From the way the above posts are written, it could be because he is a euro. I hope that's not it. He is just not that good often enough. Thats really it. Occasionally he looks really good, but mostly he sucks.

So, Euro's aren't liked on the team? You know I have heard through the grapevine that Hanlon doesn't care for Euro's too much???? I agree Ciernik goes through spurts where he does great and then he doesnt'. He just came back from having that broken foot and scored the other night so that is good I guess.

Capsfan68:

No one either in Portland or DC noticed Ciernik was gone for a month, does that say anything about Ciernik's talent or lack thereof?

CF68...Just to clarify...It matters little to me where the player comes from...fact is my favorite Cap player is Russian (Gonchar) and in the rest of the entire league is a Swede (Forsberg). So really the issue that he's a Euro wasn't the point.
I just see Ciernik's "noncontact" style has little place in Portland or in DC. Further his almost constant need to take shifts off...nights off...weeks off...drive me absolutely crazy. He clearly has the skill to put up a point per game in Portland but instead coasts and frequently is a total non factor and looking like he wants to take no contact whatsoever. That just leads me to the conclusion that he'd fit in better in one of the Euro leagues where skill, speed, and nonchecking are more prevalent.

"I have heard through the grapevine that Hanlon doesn't care for Euro's too much"

BTW I'd say that's nonsense. Gonchar, Lang, Bondra, Jagr, Zubrus all are getting tons of minutes under Hanlon. Furthermore they are the top five on the team in TOI...and they are all European players. That should say enough of Hanlon's opinion of them.

I haven't heard anything like that, and it's based on another poster on the board who is giving their interpretation on another poster's post. (Wow, that's convoluted)

As far as I know, players like Cutta, Stana and Tvrdon haven't experienced any anti-Euro bias.

I guess so. What is he going to do bench his star players??
