If I'm not mistaken, this kid is just 19 or 20 and was fantastic last season and is leading Frisk in scoring this season despite having missed a number of games.

I haven't heard his name being mentioned in NHL circles, but he seems to be extraordinary there in Norge.

Will he be in Sweden next season?

Chapin

yes he will....

he had offers from skellefta and brynas i think before this season, but decided to stay here for one more year.

he is so far ahead of the rest of the competition, its not even funny.

he has 35 points (12+23) in just 16 games so far this season.

i hope he is healthy for the world championship. he is going to surprise a lot of people.

i wouldnt be surprised at all if he plays in the NHL in 2-3 years. he has the talent. the only thing that can hold him back is size. he is only 5'6" and 156lbs...

size as never been an issue in the norwegian league. he NEVER gets knocked off the puck. but i dont know how he will do against NHL d-men...

Interesting to hear.

I've heard some folks say he may be THE most talented offensive player to ever come out of Norway.

Is there any specific NHL player whose style he resembles?

Atleast 4 SEL clubs are chasing him according to this article.

http://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/hockey/elitserien/article1519855.ab

However, people said Lars Erik Spets would be need a couple of seasons in SEL before he was supposed to be ready for NHL as well... I've seen him many times for Brynäs and I can tell you he will never be a NHL player.

I'm unsure if it's possible to really judge players by displays in the norwegian league, as it seems to be really low level. The danish league seems to be better, in my opinion.

Thanks to YouTube, there are a few videos that allow us non-knowers to get a glimpse of the Norwegian and Danish leagues. I can say that they are BOTH very similar to the German second league, which is prolly a step below the Allsvenskan, although a number of Allsvenskan have come here and not done too well for 2nd league teams.

Here in Germany, Tore Vikingstad has been a top player for several years now, then again, he played a good role in the SEL as well, as did his former pal Trond Magnussen. Vikingstad had a shoulder injury to start the season and hasn't been the same since. The young Matthis Olimb who was on the NHL map at some point, has not had the impact that some expected here in Germany, playing for Augsburg. He's not been too bad, but with 7-10-17 in like 30 games, well that shows the discrepancy between his 18-44-62 last year in Norway.

The Danish Jesper Daamgaard played here in Germany twice, and was somehow never more than middlemass, although he's always been fairly decent in Sweden and now for Roedovre.

This all being said, at the current time, Norway and Denmark remain Sweden's X-spot. Up to now, just about any and everybody from these countries who's ever been good has ultimately gone through Sweden, if not remained there. Aasen will probably be there next season and I'm sure he's on the map for several NHL scouts. Nowadays though, it's looking like kids like him won't necessarily be drafted, but rather signed as free agents. I mean heck, with so much talent right there in North America, why waste a draft pick when kids like Aasen can be invited to prospect camps and then signed afterwards?

As a last word, I have a pal who's a big Asker Frisk fan and he thinks Aasen is the best Norwegian player since Knutsen without a doubt. After now having seen some taped highlights, well it's hard to tell with that size, but a key role on a club like i.e. Mora - could add up to a 15-20-35 rookie SEL season.

Aasen has now 50 points in just 25 games... It's going to be exciting to see this guy in SEL next season.

Just a little update from Sweden, after 5 regular season games so far he leads MODO in scoring with 3 goals and 6 assists for 9 points, and it's been fun watching him out there as well, he's got lots of skill and surprising moves.

Very fascinating! Thanks for the update.

I saw his penalty shot against.... Linköping I think.

I wonder how long he can keep this up. If he somehow winds up being a point-per-game player (the season is still long), I'd have to think that the eyes of the NHL would finally be on this kid.

Modo lost 4-5 to Brynäs today, but...Zuccarrello Aasen scored another two, making it 5 goals and 6 assists so far.

My previous post about him looks a lot better at this point :D

I knew he'd be good, but I didnt expect him to have this kind of impact right of the bat... #1 in league scoring so far.. Not bad for a 21 year old Norwegian!!

If he keeps this up, it wont be long before NHL teams starts showing some interest...

What has really surprised me is that it looks like SEL d-men are having a hard time knocking him of the puck too...

Tomas Ros (swedish sport reporter) had a discussion with an NHL-scout during a SEL game about some players and then mentioned Aasen, and the NHL scout laughed and said that they weren't admitting midgets that don't play bigger than their size or something along those lines

That's completely disgusting!! And people question why I go for Norway and Sweden in World Hockey events, totally dispicable and uncalled for comment. The scout also couldn't be more wrong Aasen plays like a giant despite being far from one, he's unbelieveably fun to watch.

On a side note can anyone tell me why he hasn't played in the last 12 or so games? I know he's hurt but I can't seem to find any info on the injury or when he might return. Thanks.

Ok thank you very much! I knew he was scheduled to be back in December originally but when I watched the last couple MoDo games and didn't see him I started to get worried. Tough to get acurate injury info from the SEL in Ontario so I'm very thankful for the update and cant wait to see Mats back.

He will be the best player ever to come out of Norway...

I would rank it like this so far:
1.Espen "Shampo" Knutsen
2.Bjørn "Botta" Skaare
3.Patrick Thoresen
4.Ole Kristian Tollefsen
