Kentucky newspaper article:

There does not appear to be a horse as strong as last year's Lane's End winner -- Derby and Breeders' Cup Classic runner-up Hard Spun -- in the field, which is why a capacity 12 horses are entered.
"Who is the favorite?" asked trainer Todd Pletcher.
According to the morning line, that would be 7-2 Halo Najib, who was sixth in the Fountain of Youth 13 days after winning a restricted, non-betting stakes in Ocala over a synthetic surface.
"I think that basically tells you about the race," Pletcher said. "It's not a clear-cut picture, where last year Hard Spun was sort of obvious. I think this one is wide-open."
The Lane's End has been the objective all along for Halo Najib, with the Grade II Fountain of Youth thrown in because the horse was doing well, his trainer, Dale Romans, said.

FLORENCE - Turfway Park and Kentucky horse racing have much to celebrate.
A crowd of up to 20,000 - more if the weather cooperates - is expected at Turfway for today's Lane's End Stakes, a $500,000 Kentucky Derby prep race broadcast to a national ESPN audience.
The world's eyes turn to Louisville's Churchill Downs for the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby on the first Saturday in May.
"This is a great time of year for the racing," Hall of Fame Jockey Steve Cauthen, a Boone County resident, said earlier this week after spending two hours signing autographs at Turfway Park.
In the background of the seasonal euphoria are issues affecting Kentucky's signature industry and its claimed annual statewide economic impact of $4 billion.
