eyesonpuck 03-26-2008, 08:18 AM Asking for your assistance to know more about Norway Hockey.
What is the type of hockey and players in Norway Division #2 hockey league?
Is it like Single Professional "A" (SPHL, MAHL, EPHL) in the USA? Or is it more like the Professional "AA" Hockey (ECHL, IHL, CHL )in the USA?
How much do the players get paid?
Number of games played?
Any team web page links?
Norway Div 2 a good choice?
Thank-you.
Redwingsfan 03-26-2008, 09:36 AM do you mean Div-2 as in tier-III?
If you do..
It sucks... you dont get paid.. and you have to pay for bus travles, hotels, most of your equipment etc etc yourself.. oh and its 20 games pr season... lol..
and no, its not a good choice...
Div-1 (tier-II) is better... you dont get paid unless you play for one of the best teams.. or if you are on of the best players in the league.. but at least everything is free (on most teams)... and its 30 games pr season.. still not a lot, but better then 20...
I hope that helps :D
IslesNorway 03-28-2008, 03:21 PM Division 2 in Norway is pure hobby. They play late on weeknights in front of nobody except maybe some friends and family, but I guess not even those are bothered...
Jagger Bomb 12-09-2008, 06:50 PM What league would Division I be comparable to in canada/usa?

SPHL maybe, I dunno:laugh:
Jagger Bomb 12-09-2008, 11:54 PM SPHL maybe, I dunno:laugh:
lol oh wow, I was thinking of heading over there.. I think i'd still consider it as a starting point. Have always wanted to spend some time in Norway.
SthlmNYI 12-10-2008, 06:39 PM I'd say, skip Norway and go for Sweden or Finland instead.
If you're looking for a job.
If you're looking for an adventure I'd say Norway
rcduthie77 12-11-2008, 11:41 PM I play college hockey in Canada, with Mohawk College...Were pretty much an extramural team but I'd love to take a shot into Sweden or Norway when I'm done school. Any advice for a league to try out in?

Swedish tier4.
hkyguy4 05-06-2009, 09:10 AM What are the better Division 1 teams (tier 2)? Which ones actually pay their players? Thanks
IslesNorway 05-09-2009, 03:46 PM Paying players in tier 2 Norwegian hockey?? Pretty much impossible I'd say except maybe buy you a few hours off work to travel for away games. No more than a hundred or so people watch games at that level, so paying the players is pretty much out of the question.

The teams with a "2" after the team names are the reserve squads of elite league teams. Among the rest, M/S and H/L are the most tradition-rich clubs, both are Oslo teams. Rosenborg may be up and coming, the remaining top club in Norway's third city (Trondheim) after the big club (TIK) went bust.
cheers

Wow, Stjernen 2 - is really that bad? That's the team that sent like 7 players to an away game right?
norwegianislander 05-10-2009, 10:23 AM Swedish tier4.
The Norwegian hockey league is not a high standard. If you have played college hockey in Canda, you could try out for the 1 div teams here.

Hey, this is the team I've supported my whole life you're talking about here! :)
Can't say I've heard of that, but I suppose it's possible - these are just reserve squads after all, so if the squad's a bit thin and there's plenty of injuries in the A squad, it's not inconceivable.
cheers

and become a superstar over there....
luciousharris 05-20-2009, 11:01 PM I am looking to go to Norway myself. I have a couple of contacts with teams in the 1st division. I was told if I do well I could move up to the GET for a few games. But the only thing is until I move up everything comes out of my pocket. That I am not thrilled about.
That is why I am looking at my other option in Finland. It't not the Mestis or anything but it's ok. Atleast the appartment will be paid for.
I would honestly try to get into Sweden or Suomi Sarja in Finland if you reall want to play some good hockey.
From looking at the highlights from a 1st Div game , I would say the league is barley on the SPHL level.

Which teams are you in contact with? I'd say its better to get a contract with one of the senior teams, NOT one of the recruit teams from the GET league (tier I). In most of those teams you will have equipment, travelling, license and insurance covered by the team, and maybe appartment if you are lucky. They will even _try_ to get you some job.
Playing for the recruit teams, you are probably pretty much on your own with expences and other things; teams in GET are cutting costs, and they don'r care as much for players outside the elite roster. You will be closer to the elite league if playing for a recruit team, but if you rack it up in the div 1, the GET teams will notice it! I'd say your best bet is Grüner; they are always a top team, lots of veteran players, recently signed one of the very best coaches in the country, and rumours tellsthat they are working on a deal with Manglerud/Star of the GET league for easy exchange of players

I wsa talking to lorenskog and gruner. Both said I can come out and skate with teh team. But I still have to pay for flight and I need a job. I didn't mind the fact that i would have to look for a job and an apparmtment on my own. But now that camp is aproaching i am not too sure. I think i am going to finland first and then go to Gruner later in the season. Hopefully they can help with a job.
Jagger Bomb 07-03-2009, 07:17 PM hmm how does one get in contact with these clubs? I played junior A so I figure i'd be alright over there by the sounds of it?

They lost 27-1 earlier that weekend! Try to count the number of players on the Furuset bench. Not even two full lines.. Nothing less than a scandal :shakehead
