Yay or nay?
Will Canada break the Soviet record of 7 straight WJC gold medals?Dima87* 04-01-2008, 01:34 PM Yay or nay? ryz 04-01-2008, 03:05 PM Yay. deanosaur 04-01-2008, 05:22 PM yay. but remember, those first 3 medals were in "unofficial" tournaments. so technically its only 4. unofficially its 7. Dima87* 04-01-2008, 05:43 PM yay. but remember, those first 3 medals were in "unofficial" tournaments. so technically its only 4. unofficially its 7. Yea, yea, it's 7 in a row. therealdeal 04-02-2008, 12:46 AM I would say its impossible to guess, but if I HAD to, I would say no. Winning more than 2 tourneys in a row is difficult, never mind 3 MORE in a row after 4 straight, hard to to. Especially with tons of players making the NHL long before their eligibility in the WJC runs out. Zine 04-03-2008, 03:30 AM It's possible with the next couple WJC scheduled exclusively in North America. However, I think Canada will have a much tougher go of it as the relative talent level coming out of Europe seems to be miles ahead of where its been the last few years. ziqo 05-26-2008, 11:23 AM yay. but remember, those first 3 medals were in "unofficial" tournaments. so technically its only 4. unofficially its 7. well, then you should start counting off those exhibitional olympic tournaments canada won in the august sun Berglund1313 06-12-2008, 03:32 AM Nay Sweden will break it this year for them :naughty: Novak Djokovic 06-12-2008, 05:36 PM If all the eligible players make team Canada in all years, Canada can win. But with guys like Stamkos playing for Tampa next year, Canada loses a lot of talent. I'm curious how our D will look this WJC. Drew Doughty Tyler Myers Luke Schenn Thomas Hickey PK Subban Alex Pieterangelo Michael Del Zotto [Alzner and Ellerby not eligible] Hopefully, all these guys don't make the NHL team this season... Mr Kanadensisk 06-12-2008, 09:22 PM Yea, yea, it's 7 in a row. 7 in a row from '74 - '80 is impressive, but I don't think all the participants started sending their best players until around 1982. Which do you think is a greater accomplishment, 7 in a row pre '82 or 5 in a row post '82? Davebo 06-13-2008, 12:48 PM 7 in a row from '74 - '80 is impressive, but I don't think all the participants started sending their best players until around 1982. Which do you think is a greater accomplishment, 7 in a row pre '82 or 5 in a row post '82? I'd have to go with 5 in row post 1982. A much more competitive environment. However, the most impressive is yet to come... SeNaToR PhIL 06-14-2008, 12:12 PM It could happen if USA, Sweden and Russia can't do anything about it. Macman 06-15-2008, 07:15 AM Canada already has the record. notmynhl 10-07-2009, 01:52 PM Indeed, Canada 5 in a row, Russia 4 in a row. Also, Canada is far ahead in best on best at the senior level. Gotta love those Canadian players. :D | ||
