1, 2, 3 it goes...
Chris Conner (MTU)
Frank Doyle (Maine)
Jared Ross (Alabama-Huntsville)
not far behind Ross is Colin Murphy (MTU).
After Murphy... there's over a 6,000 point differential between he and Junior Lessard
Jason MacIsaac 02-21-2004, 09:44 PM Parise with a 4 point weekend
johnny cool 02-22-2004, 12:54 AM i think fan voting only counts for like 1% of the final tally, though. i don't see it as being a big deal
jiggs 10 02-23-2004, 03:54 PM Yeah, this is kind of a joke. It only counts for 1 or 2% of the criteria anyway. And look at the standings! Who ARE those guys? Glad the real winner will be one of the others who people have seen play and recognize are the real deal.

Like the bustling metropolis of Grand Forks, ND. Dream on , loser.

Joke? Who is Frank Doyle? Who is Chris Conner?
Conner has been described by MANY coaches as the most electric player in the NCAA and will be a strong candidate when it all comes down to it.
redmen 02-24-2004, 06:15 AM He is a damn good goalie.
Ballard has missed too many games for the Gophers this year to be considered as well as Vanek. They have played well, but other guys like Conners, Bochenski, and the goalie from UMD (?name) are standing out all season long in the WCHA. That's just the WCHA, there are others too I don't get to see besides a few non-conference games. To me, it's Conners' award to lose.

Can we please keep it civil here? Thanks.
DW: Isaac Reichmuth. Well last I checked Ballard was getting some votes though. Even with the games he's missed he still deserves to be nominated IMO.
Jiggs: It depends upon who you follow and/or how closely you follow the entirety of the NCAA. If you follow only the WCHA for example and just follow UND, MN and UW, then chances are you're not going to be familiar with Conner and Doyle. Nor Yann Danis and Thomas Pock for that matter.....both of whom will also get some serious Hobey consideration.
As for the fact that fan balloting counts for so little, at least the fans can have a field day voting for their favourite players, whether they deserve to be nominated or not.

I knew his first name was Isaac. I just didn't want to brutalize the guys last name into a totally different person.
Schlep Rock 02-29-2004, 08:57 AM He is a damn good goalie.
I meant it in response to the post right above me that said who are these guys.
I just didn't give a description of Doyle like I did Conner.
johnny cool 03-01-2004, 05:44 PM He is a damn good goalie.
this is inaccurate
Perry91502 03-01-2004, 08:17 PM this is inaccurate
Are you for real? As a HE fan, Doyle is a VERY good goalie, extremely underrated
redmen 03-01-2004, 08:47 PM I would agree with what you say. As a HE fan as well, he is one of the better goalies in that league.Doesn't get a lot of press but usually gets the job done and gives his team a chance to win.

usapete 03-10-2004, 09:25 AM Bernd Bruckler. I saw this for both biased and hockey reason. I'm a Badger fan, and the guy has been a wall this year.
jiggs 10 03-10-2004, 05:38 PM Joke? Who is Frank Doyle? Who is Chris Conner?

Just watched him (Conner) play 2 more games this weekend. He doesn't stand a chance. But the entire Michigan Tech team didn't really play very well, so he sure didn't have any help.
Having seen the best of the NCAA this year (BC, BU, UND, MN, UMD, Maine), I would still have to pick Parise. He is the best 3-zone player in hockey, not just COLLEGE hockey, but hockey. Sure, I get to see him a lot, so I might seem biased, but this season I have yet to see a better player. And he didn't do a bad job at the WJC, either!
Oh, by the way, Doggone Dawg, where are YOU from? The bustling metropolis of Dryden, perhaps? Or maybe Wawa. At least we HAVE big-time hockey where I live.
johnny cool 03-10-2004, 10:01 PM Having seen the best of the NCAA this year (BU)
You can't mean BOSTON UNIVERSITY!?
Hockeypuck 03-10-2004, 10:51 PM You can't mean BOSTON UNIVERSITY!?That's what I was thinking :D
Big McLargehuge 03-11-2004, 04:52 AM 1. Ryan Whitney
2. Noah Welch
3. Ben Eaves
:D :p ;)
Jason MacIsaac 03-11-2004, 02:53 PM I think it will go to the most offensive player which is a shame becasue I don't think there was a player as good in all three zones as Parise in all college. If there was a MVP player then it is him.

Well he should be nominated at the very least because he does deserve it.....and not just because he plays for UND (are you listening, jiggs? :rolly: )

Just wondering....are any of these others good defensive players? I thought Higgins could have woin the award last year with his great all round play on a not so strong Yale teams.
I would like to hear your opinions on the Boston/Boston game tonight....muhc bad blood between these two teams?

Well in answer to your first question, many of the forwards nominated are pretty dominate offensive players. Dwight Helminen out of Michigan IMO is one of the league's best defensive forwards, but I seriously doubt he's going to garner the nominations that say Brandon Bochenski will. He doesn't lead either the nation, CCHA or even Michigan in any of the major offensive categories (at last check).
In answer to your 2nd question, the BU/BC IMO will be an out & out grudge match. While I believe BC will win the series, I don't think BU will go quietly. The Terriers will need Fields to be on top of his game and they'll need to shutdown BC's top line of the Eaves Bros & Tony Voce. BU will be without Magowan, so guys like Brian McConnell and David VanderGulik will need to continue to put up the points along with the rest of the team.

What's funny is BU did just that... Mcconnell came through and Fields played a great game and they pulled out the 3-2 win!

No, I meant BOSTON COLLEGE. Thanks for catching that for me! :)

He should win it because he is the best player. He was nominated last year as a freshman, even though he couldn't get voted onto an all-league team in his own conference  , which is ridiculous when you think he was the, what, 3rd leading scorer in the NCAA last year?
He is the player that makes UND so tough. Every time they have a bad shift, out comes Parise to straighten things out and create some offense, or block a shot, or steal the puck, or...
All I know is Conner should not be even a finalist. After watching him play 4 games in the past 10 days, he is a good offensive player, not great, and does little on defense to help his team. He's obviously Tech's best player, but they finished 10th out of 10 teams, so he didn't help them out much, did he?

Last I checked, the Hobey went to the BEST PLAYER, no the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER for his team. Who cares where Michigan Tech finished, Connor is definitely worthy of being a finalist. I see the 10 finalists announced and I don't see why he isn't named as one of them. His numbers are right there with most of the other candidates so I don't see the issue. The only reason he isn't getting mentioned is because he played for Michigan Tech. If he played for a team with a bigger name, he'd be talked about as a possible finalist.
Go4Hockeychick 03-29-2004, 11:09 AM I'm really curious as to why Jimmy Howard of Maine is not a Hobey finalist. You'd think breaking goaltender records would warrant at least a LOOK for the Hobey...

he played in like 20 games.

From what I understand and have read/heard, Howard didn't get a nod because of his injury situation earlier in the year. I can (almost) guarantee that if it were not for that, his name would've made the candidates list.
Go4Hockeychick 03-29-2004, 03:56 PM thanks, I didn't realize he had been injured. that's too bad.
johnny cool 03-31-2004, 02:17 PM Your finalists are: Yann Danis (G) of Brown, Zach Parise (F) of NoDak, and Junior Lessard (F) of Minnesota-Duluth.
I say it's Lessard or Parise that wins it. Danis won't win due to the fact that he's a goalie and they don't win unless they're Ryan Miller.
Hossa 03-31-2004, 03:50 PM Danis won't win due to the fact that he's a goalie and they don't win unless they're Ryan Miller.
Or Robb Stauber. :lol
