A couple of things...

Yes, Fedz you may have the Canucks and the Avs (though I can't understand why a Canuck fan would want to be GM of the Avs ;) ).

Since other people want the Canucks and the Oilers, I'll take over the Senators and the Blues. And if someone wants those teams, I'll give 'em up, I guess. Don't really care what teams I get.

And just to clarify, you may select players such as Oleg Tverdovsky or Dmitri Yushkevich, who no longer play in the NHL, but have not officially retired.

Thanks for joining everyone.

Yeah, each team will start off with 30 picks, though they may trade away up to 7 of those picks to move up in the draft or whatever. You just have to make at least 23 selections (the standard NHL roster). You have to pick 2 goalies, 6 defensemen and 12 forwards. Picks after that are up to you. Salary cap is at 50 million, but players in the "minors" (not a part of your 23 man roster) don't count towards the cap. If you need more explaining, PM me.

The salaries will be based upon reputable sources like NHLPA.com or THN. They seem to be reliable and to back each other up. To clarify, bonuses do not figure into things.

Any more questions?

The first draft is one of the most important. I want to allow people plenty of time to make their picks on time as it is important. I might switch it to a 12 hr time limit if it takes too long.

12 hours might be needed, even perhaps 6 or 8 after the first few rounds, at which point it skips the pick and they can make it later on their own time... Just imagine if everyone takes 24 hours per pick... 30 teams, 30 rounds... What's that we'd be finished in hmmmm, just under two and a half years or so (900 days!)? We'd have players drafted two years from now in the 25th round who are outperforming players selected in the 3rd or 4th! :D

Under 20 years of age, and leading the NHL in goals. He's a franchise player and will be one of the best power forwards in the league. With surprising speed and a great shot, Nash was to good to pass up.

You guys want to speed things up? How about after the first round we have the draft going on a 12-hr time limit? I don't think it's fair to change it until the end of the first round when everyone got 24 hrs to make their pick. Otherwise some people will get more time than others. But if you guys don't care, then we can change it up. That's fine by me. I'm always open to suggestions...

Very surprised he wasn't taken in the top 10. Naslund's contract is moderatley large, but is worth every penny in my opinion. Markus has one of the deadlist and most accurate wrist shots in the game. He's always a threat when he's on the ice, and has also proved he has a defensive demention to his game. Markus Naslund is a great player, and I'm happy to build my team around him.

I KNEW you'd take him, I just knew it. I agree 14th overall is a little late, and I could've taken him with my top pick, but I thought Hossa was a better fit in terms of salary and defensive play. Plus he's younger, and their production is somewhat comparable.

Nice pick. Vokoun doesn't get a great deal of media attention because he plays in Nashville (not a team that gets a ton of attention NHL-wide), but is probably one of the best goalies in the league (in the top 10, IMO). His $1.2 mil contract this yr is very reasonable considering how good he is - in fact, he's probably one of the better bargains in the NHL.

Good question. To be honest, I didn't really think of that! What do you think we should do? So, guys, what's the word?

I'm going away from the 15th to the 17th, so I will be unable to update this thread. Shall I pause the draft (once again), or can it run somewhat decently without me around to update it?

Another factor to consider is that a lot of other people might be going away over Spring Break, thus making it hard to keep the draft up to date.

Thoughts?

Sorry guys, I didn't know I was on the clock. Nobody bothered to PM me.

Anyways, for financial reasons, this selection is a no brainer:

With their 2nd pick in Bandwagons mock draft, The Phoenix Coyotes are proud to select LW Paul Kariya

http://pics.forecaster.ca/nhl-player/1258.gif

Though he's having one of the most statistically disapointing years of his career, we felt that Paul was still just too good to pass up on. He's got great wheels, a bullet of a shot, and can easily change the momentum of a game. For the small price tag on him, it was hard not to choose him.

Thinking of the needs of All-Star winger Markus Naslund, this was quite an easy choice for me.

So, with their 2nd pick in Bandwagons mock draft, The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim are proud to select RW Jeff O'Neill

http://pics.forecaster.ca/nhl-player/0531.gif

First and foremost, I was looking for someone to compliament Markus Naslund. And Jeff O'Neill fits that bill and then some. He's a fast skater, and has some nice moves that will create a lot of room for Naslund to work with. Not only that, he's a punishing and tenacious hitter, who can also shoot the puck with the best of them. He creates a lot of chances and if he's not crashing and banging in the corner making room for his linemates, he's putting the puck on net.

The Ottawa Senators are happy to select right winger Alexander Mogilny. The Sens felt that adding a sniper to their strong foundation was key and Mogilny is a welcome addition to the team due to his great wheels and dynamic scoring ability. His playmaking skills are also quite good, and he has improved into a solid defensive player as well as a reliable playoff performer.

The St. Louis Blues are happy to select goaltender Dwayne Roloson. The Blues felt they really needed to add a goalie and Roloson was the best fit for them with his excellent work ethic, quickness between the pipes and athleticism. He has had some of the best stats in the NHL the past two seasons.

Now to the point. The Mighty Ducks organization looks to solve any problem of secondary scoring, by bolstering our second line with one of the premier snipers in the game.

With their 3rd pick in Bandwagons mock draft, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks are proudy to select RW Glen Murray

http://pics.forecaster.ca/nhl-player/0348.gif

With the aquisition of Murray, the Mighty Ducks organization make sure they have plenty of scoring depth in their line-up. With Murray, you get a big, strong, rugged winger with soft hands, and a laser of a shot. He can be depended upon to score 30 goals if paired with the right set-up man.

The Canucks are happy to select left winger Stanislav Chistov. Chistov, just 20, is a perfect fit for the young team that the Canucks are trying to assemble with the likes of Dion Phaneuf and Kari Lehtonen. He's had a tough year, but what player on the Ducks hasn't? He's got great wheels, shifty one-on-one moves and great vision. He will be a key part of their offense both now and in the future.

The Avs are happy to select young stud defenseman Jiri Fischer. The Avs are also hoping to be a young team, and Fischer, just 23, fits perfectly into their lineup. He's learned how to play in a strong system in Detroit and is one of the better young defensemen in the NHL. Blessed with powerful hitting abilities, great skating and a wicked shot, he should patrol the Avs blueline for many years.

The Avs know that, with their philosophy of getting young players with inexpensive salaries, that they can afford to add an expensive player here and there. Therefore, they are happy to select defenseman Rob Blake, a guy who they consider one of the top defenseman in the NHL and no doubt dropped due to his heavy salary (approx. $9.3 million). Blake is a nasty physical specimen with a heavy shot, great mobility and great hands (for a defenseman anyways). He will be responsible to help young guys like Fischer along, to provide leadership, offense, rock solid defense and to play lots of minutes.

edit: The Avs changed the third round selection from Jiri Fischer to Jordan Leopold.
The Canucks changed the third round selection from Stanislav Chistov to Matt Stajan.
