What is the status of Gleason moving forward? I see he's an RFA, but haven't heard that he has signed. What is he looking for, $$ wise, and is he a part of your future?

What are your overall thoughts on Tim Gleason?

Anyone on the Flyers (realistically) that would interest you in a trade?

Thanks

Gleason was supposed to get a really long deal this offseason but the two sides couldn't come together on terms. Carolina is likely to make their next offer a one year deal but we've been down this road before. Erik Cole was all set to take a one year deal before Carolina gave him three. JR tends to use the media as his personal negotiation platform.

I would say that if Carolina was going to deal Tim Gleason they would need to start the discussions with one of the Flyers young defensemen... making it almost a lateral move. Braydon Coburn.. Kukkonen. I really cannot see Carolina trading Gleason for anything other than an established defenseman and only in the scenario that they can't come to terms.

Thank you for that. I appreciate it.

I really didn't know what Carolina's needs were heading into the offseason, but a few browses through some of the threads here, and it looks similar to the Flyers.....D MEN!

I love Tim Gleason. I think he's an underrated Defenseman in this league, and actually has some untapped Offensive potential. Since his days in Windsor, I have followed his career. I don't think we could part with Coburn for Gleason, but maybe Kukkonen+ would be a good starting point?

You guys have a nice team down there. I like watching the Canes.

I don't think we've gotten to the point yet where it makes sense for us to move him for anything short of an overpayment. It's not like he's expressed a desire to leave or anything, it's just if he's going to give up a few years of free agency he wants to get paid well for it. His agent is well known for trying to get every penny he can so it's unlikely we could pull off a steal of a deal with Gleason.

Defensemen are definitely a priority on this team, and with our forward depth we're looking to trade one of our better forwards (Cole, possibly Williams if the offer is enticing enough) for a good defenseman.

I really doubt you guys would part with Coburn unless we added onto Gleason. That's understandable. I really like Kukkonen, he lead all rookie in blocked shots in 06-07, and we'll be needing someone who can block a lot of shots with Wesley retiring. I'd love to see him on this team

I remember you saying this before, but to me blocking the most shots out of all rookies doesn't say all that much because how many rookie defensemen were there that year that logged decent minutes? Would be interesting to see where he stood in terms of all defensemen.

The number was pretty significant, around 150 if I'm not mistaken. That's 40 more than our leading shot blocker this season (Wesley, who had 110)

111, but it was only over 53 games. So basically he blocked 1 more shot in 25 less games. The Canes really need to find someone that is willing to sacrifice the body with Wesley retiring.

Kukkonen is a #5/6 guy IMO. We're not moving Gleason for him.

I don't think we're good trading partners. Both teams have great forwards and need defense.
