since I only get to see this guy play once a year at most...I was just wondering if those more familiar with him can tell me if he's usually very cocky and arrogant or if last night in Seattle was a rarity?
If he's always that way, all I can say is he's not THAT good, and I can't wait for him to hit the big leagues and get knocked down a few notches...I lost all respect I had for him last night

What, exactly, did he do? I see from the game summary he picked up three minor penalties, is it that what you're talking about or something else?

it's the penalties he didn't get that were the problem
a slash here and there is almost expected of a goalie..but right before those penalties...at the end of the 2nd...he literally slammed our 16 year old center to the ice...the kid wasn't crowding him...it was uncalled for...it started a couple of fights when our defensemen came in...then, as the center got up...harding threw him to the ice...it knocked him out for a minute or two...but because the ref was watching the fist fight, he didn't get so much as a 2 minute roughing call

this isn't a case of me a t-bird fan being pissed he got the upper hand...I enjoy good hockey regardless of whom the team is...but harding was just being a punk...and then once the ice was all cleared...just the attitude...the whole "bring it on, I can get away with anything because I'm awesome" attitude...it was just oozing out of him..it's hard to describe if you weren't there to see it...but I've seriously never seen a goalie act so poorly in my life

I was just curious if he's always that way, or if it was simply a matter of being frustrated they hadn't won over here

He isn't always that way. Hardly ever comes across as being cocky at anytime.

Proof: Read some of the articles about him at the World Juniors. Very humble attitude.

that is what I had thought, which was why I was so surprised to see his actions

maybe it was just the frustration and exhaustion of a trip to the west and not winning

if he isn't always that way, I'm glad to hear it...it kinda shattered my "image" of him so to speak

So protecting his crease means he has a "'bring it on, I can get away with anything because I'm awesome' attitude"? I don't get it. I watched Barry Brust do pretty much the same thing last week against Kelowna - he landed a pretty good right hook on D.J. King as King rounded the net, and hacked the ankles of any Rocket within reach of the crease - and I never figured that reflected on his character.

Josh Harding ..if Canada had used him at the WJC wed be enjoying Gold right now .
Besides whats a T-Bird fan doing complaining about tough hockey ..T-Birds are always one of the dirtiest teams in the WHL . :rolly:

it wasn't even the crap he pulled..it was the cocky attitude afterward...completely unsportsmanlike

once again..it was the attitude afterward

I guess you'd have to be there to understand

oh, and for the record...the second time he slammed durand to the ice, durand's back was to him...he was trying to skate out of the crease...believe me...durand is not a fighter

I notice he didn't play last night...could be he was tired...could have been something else

I don't think he's always that cocky, but there is definitely a fine line between confident and unsportsmanlike.

The thing about it, though, is that (I hate to admit it, but...) he is that good. I mean, there is plenty of quality goaltending talent this season in the WHL and I would consider Harding Top 5 for sure. He is a very good goalie. It is difficult to split hairs between Guard, Harvey, Ward, Brodeur and Harding (and even Slade, Grenier & Dubnyk too) because so many untestable variables exist that make it near-impossible to differentiate. I would have to say that, considering the team these goalies play for, (defensive style, personnel, etc), I would place Harvey 3rd behind only Guard and Brodeur, with Harvey and Ward close behind. But that could just be me.

Anyways, my point is that he obviously thinks highly of himself (which isn't a bad thing), and his game is based largely on confidence, consistency and lots of action between the pipes.

I will not condone the cowardly actions of his that you described, though. If that kind of thing is part of his game (I mean the part where he was attacking the player unprovoked) then that could be a prominent character flaw. I don't know. :dunno:

He is a good hockey player, though.

thank you...that was my question, because from what I've read and seen, he is very good...and I'd never heard of him being overly cocky or unsportsmanlike...I don't mind confidence...hell, confidence wins games
and there's a million reasons why he might have acted as he did...frustration and/or trying to get his team motivated to name a couple....which is why I wanted to know if he's always like that or if it was a rare occurance
the whole thing just rubbed me, and several others in attendance, some that were even wheat king fans, the wrong way

I'd hate to think someone that good has an attitude problem
after all, this is hockey, not baseball

Bah! Like Snow would be a good fit for the Canucks? He lets in soft goals and is a cheapie!
