I'm interested in accumulating information on the 3 Philadelphia Flyers prospects playing in the "Q". If anyone has any insight, analysis or thoughts on the following players, please share.

Alexandre Picard, D (Cape Breton)
Rosario Ruggeri, D (Chicoutimi)
David Tremblay, G (Gatineau)

Thanks!

Ruggeri - you need to sign him by this summer. He is a big guy, good 2 way dman. His skating needs some work but every other part of his game is above average.

Picard - developing nicely, getting quicker and stromger which is the 2 parts of his game that were lacking. Good with the puck and a nice shot.

Tremblay - decent goalie, im not too high on him. Is a bit of a product of the system in Gatineau.

it's really hard to say with Tremblay.. i've seen him all year.

At the beginning, he was a big question mark for me.. i doubted he could be the #1 goalie to take us to the mem cup.

Then around Xmas-time, he stepped it up and played great.. stealing a couple of the games the team had no business winning.

Now?! it's hard to say because the team is just so damn good.

The other night in the first, he got only 1 shot on net.

When the playoffs get here and when he faces teams like cap Breton, we'll see what he's made of. It'll be his first playoffs as #1. If he doesn't perform, Bouthillette will be given a chance to step up.. he's a 17 year old that has improved every time he's been given a game to play.

Thanks for the info guys! Much appreciated.

La-La-Laprise, have Ruggeri and Picard had steady defensive partners to your knowledge this season? Also, how good would you say they are in relation to the other defensemen on their respective teams (are they first-paring guys, second unit, etc...)? And, have either of these two players sustained any injuries to speak of this year?

Leph28, Tremblay has been described to me as the "typical Quebec butterfly goalie." What can you tell me about his style? Has it been changed or modified at all this season? What would you say is his primary asset/weakness?

Thanks again!

I can comment on Picard, although I am obligated not to say too much about his play due to an agreement I have. I was in Moncton to see him play last night and he played with Steve Villeneuve. So according to my notes through the years:

Jan 6 2002 vs. Sherbrooke: Patrick Gilbert (4th line)
Jan 9 2002 vs. Moncton: Patrick Gilbert/Louis Mandeville (4th line)
Jan 11 2002 vs Shawinigan: Patrick Gilbert (4th line)
Jan 12 2002 vs. Hull: Patrick Gilbert (4th line)
Jan 28 2002 vs. Cape Breton: Patrick Gilbert (4th line)
April 11 2003 vs. Bathurst: Steve Villeneuve (2nd line)
April 23 2003 vs. Baie Comeau: Steve Villeneuve (2nd line)
April 27 2003 vs. Baie Comeau: Steve Villeneuve (2nd line)
May 2 2003 vs. Hull: Jimmy Sharrow (2nd line)
May 3 2003 vs. Hull: Steve Villeneuve (2nd line)
May 9 2003 vs. Hull: Steve Villeneuve (2nd line)
Nov 21 2003 vs. Halifax: Neil Smith (2nd line)
Dec 27 2003 vs. Halifax: Adam Pardy on 1st line (Ramholt at WJCs)
Feb 16 2003 vs. Moncton: Steve Villeneuve/Adam Pardy (2nd line)

Hope this Helps.

Not too sure about Pairings but Ruggeri is the top dman by far on Chicoutimi. Picard id say is behind Calgary 2003 2nd rounder Tim Ramholt.

Tremblay is a Butterfly goalie, and his strongest point is positioning (add to that the fact that he's 6'2, he covers alot of net).

Right now, he is going to play 50/50 with Bouthillette till the end of the regular season, and if Bouthillette continues to play like he has so far this year, the coach will have no choice but to start him in the playoffs.

My biggest question mark about Tremblay is that often he would not be making the "lucky or big save" in important times.. while opposing goalies seemed to be able to. As i said, during the holidays, he stole a few games that Hull should have lost, and kinda changed my mind then, but now he has gone back to being good, but nothing exceptional.

As i said earlier, it's hard to evaluate those 2 very well because they play on such a good team.

That's right about him being behind Ramholt, and there's no shame in that :)

I know and id say by next year Picard will be as good.

Ramholt is an 84, Picard is 85. Philly got a good one. And with the trading of 2 of their top 4 D prospects:

I had them ranked Pitkanen, Woywitka, Sedinberg and Vandermeer.

That opens up room for Alex.
