He's 31, a UFA next summer (will probably end up signing a 5-6 million/season contract, ie. Horcoff money), and put up 52 points between the Ducks/Blues last season. I could be wrong, but I suspect he's not in the Blues future plans and that they'll try and trade him at the deadline.

What would it take to acquire him?

Doug Weight :naughty:

2nd round puck + decent prospect

3.5-4 million not 5-6 million.

Well you have to look at what the Blues would want in return first?

Do they require a seasoned veteran, or do they want to add to their highly coveted prospect pool

I've always liked McDonald and think he would be a solid addition to the Devil's top line.

If we are out of the hunt I would say picks and prospects. We are still rebuilding but you might be wasting your time. I'm not sure the Blues will be able to move him if Oshie or Berglund can't prove they can handle being a center. We have Tkachuk playing center when he should be one left wing, and he will more than likely retire after this yr. That leaves us then next yr even without letting Amac go.

What happened to him last year in St. Louis? I expected him to put up way more points. I guess he got all his points from killing the stars 8 times a year.

He's not the best fit between Karyia and Boyes. Towards the end of the year there was a line of Perron-McDonald-Backes that had good chemistry. He is a better player than he showed last year for sure. If the Blues keep their preseason lines he should have an effective year with Boyes and Stempniak. Or even with Perron and Backes on his wings like the end of last year should be a dangerous line as well. Our forward depth has improved by adding Berglund and Oshie so we can build more well structured lines this year because we should be able to split Boyes and Karyia from time to time. The biggest obstacle for him is going to be our D-corps ability to move the puck. He will have quality players on his wing this year no matter what we just need to find a better transition game for him to show what he's really capable of.

I think its too early to tell if he's going to be traded or not. A lot depends on how Berglund and Oshie develop. I'm not sure of his willingness to resign at this point so that could be a factor as well.

He put up 36 points in 49 games. That is pretty good after having to adjust to a different team, style of play, and a new system entirely.

He put up 85 and 78 points the two seasons prior.

Because his winger was Selanne, who had 40/90+ pt seasons those two years. Before Selanne, Andy had 80 points in 194 games.

I'm not saying he's bad - I like him, he's fast.. but I wouldn't expect him to duplicate 85/78 points. 60-70 is a more realistic expectation, I think, and I could see him getting 4ish mil? Maybe Blues/Ducks fans can correct me.

AMs future is really up to him. He is a solid 2nd line center with good vision and speed. On the market, my guess is he will sign at 5.5 per year. However, if he is going to stay with the Blues and is part of their future plan, I would expect him to get locked in at 4 - 4.5 range.

If he decides that this will be his best and last chance at a big $$$ contract, then I think the Blues will trade him at the deadline if they are out of the race. If they are in the playoff race, then I think they will make the run and let him walk at the end of the year.

While some of the fans here have remarked on Oshie and Berglunds development playing a role in AMs future, I think the real deciding factor will actually be Lars Eller. He he continues to put up points in the SEL as a 19 year old and the Blues feel he can make the jump then they may let Andy Mac go.

Look at Derek Roy's contract then compare! Roy was awarded a fat contract before he scored 81 points last season. Prior to last year he scored 63 points in 06-07 and 46 points in 05-06.
