[GER] Alexander SulzerDonga 03-06-2004, 09:36 AM Just wondering how this guy is going in the league? Any info is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Zorin 03-07-2004, 09:06 AM I didn't follow him that closely, but judging from what I hear and from the stats he is having a mediocre season at best. I think one could more say that he struggled throughout the year. He plays for 8th seeded Düsseldorf. In 45 games he had 4 goals, 1 assist for 5 points and 54 pim. That is not too bad for a young guy so far. BUT He is 4th last in shots on goal with 41 proving little offense. He is second worse in +/- going +9, -20 for -11 overall. He is in desprate need for a breakthrough year. Judging from now he has been hugely overrated. Zorin Sanderson 03-07-2004, 09:23 AM He should have stayed in Hamburg, he got much icetime here, even SH. He could have learned much from Dave King, like Martin Walter did. rbeeler 03-07-2004, 02:31 PM Though I would love to see Germany develop an eficient and effective way to develop young talent, I must say that the best option for young German players who want to play in the NHL is the CHL. There, they can get quality IT with talented players. From what I have heard, the DNL isnt the best junior league and younger German players often have a difficult time getting IT in the DEL. Just my thoughts, comments? Zorin 03-11-2004, 06:02 AM The problem is not so much the DNL. This is a pretty good league with a high level of competition. The problem is that there is nothing after it! When you leave DNL you are 17! The junior leagues for older players have nothing to offer to the young guys. Best would be if the guys went over to OHL, QMJHL etc. AFTER having played their share of DNL. They are all still still Diamonds in the rough when coming out and just very very few players are ready to face the challenge of DEL competition at 17! Germany needs a "farm league" for U-23 players. That would be the best. With a high level of competition and good connections to the DEL-teams. Also to develop players with NHL-Qualities we need to get better officiating allowing more phisical play! Any hard hit is disallowed here. If I watch an NHL-game I see at least 3 hits any game with no penalty on the play (which is correct!) where I think "wow, that would be at least 3-4 games ban over here...." I have not seen 10 real open ice hits this season where no penalty was called and I have seen about 30-35 games live and another 20-25 on TV! That is the biggest problem. Not even to mention the officiating in DNL where I saw a few games too. Those refs normally don't allow ANY contact. These kids would get smoked if they played a canadian junior team under canadian officiating. Not because they cannot skate, pass or shoot, but because they would be killed on the ice, simply because they are not used to hitting. If so, it would be a great opportunity for him to show his development, as well as a forum for the Preds to scout him and hopefully bring him to NA. IMO the Preds will bring him up slowly, because at the moment theey are nt in need for an aditional d-man. Suter and some others will be ready next year to make the team, that point will give Sulzer time the complete his development. Maybe in 2 or 3 year he is experienced enough to go to NA. danista 03-28-2004, 12:46 PM I don't think he has a chance to play these WCs. There are some better D-Man here in Germany. Tronador 03-28-2004, 02:35 PM I don't think he has a chance to play these WCs. There are some better D-Man here in Germany. Felix Petermann(Nuremberg), a defender, was named the rookie of the season by the eishockey magazine "Eishockey News".He is excellent in checking and in general in the defense, but not very offensively. And he will play for the national team. VanCanuck 03-29-2004, 08:07 AM I don't think he has a chance to play these WCs. There are some better D-Man here in Germany. It's up to him. I' am wondering about your interests in German hockey. Have you got German ancestors??? Greetings from the capital of Germany to the capital of Canada. :yo: rbeeler 03-29-2004, 12:08 PM Hopefully Sulzer and Petermann can impress Hans Zach, as well as scouts. The more prospects the Better!!! Can't speak for Sens, but I myself have family in Muenchen and Landshut (Most of my fam lives in or around Washington DC). On top of that, having first watched the German team at the SLC 2002 games, I was drawn to the gritty play of the German team. Plus, everyone loves an underdog! VanCanuck 03-30-2004, 06:37 AM I' am wondering about your interests in German hockey. Have you got German ancestors??? Greetings from the capital of Germany to the capital of Canada. :yo: Thanks :yo: Well my father spend several years in Germany. He worked in the greater cologne area and sometimes he watched sharks ice hockey. He's a fanatic hockey fan and often talks about the atmosphere in german arenas'.I visited Cologne last year and i must say germany is a beautiful country and the people are very friendly although they ca be a lttle bossy at times. ;) _____________________________________________ Nice talking with you.....Holly ***** it's dark outside. ..I go to bed :p rbeeler 03-30-2004, 09:27 AM Germany is indeed a beautiful country...Koeln was one of the stops on my backpacking tour last summer and I was impressed with its beauty and cleanliness. Also, it gave me an opportunity to speak German, something I have difficulty doing in the states. Speaking of bossy, one night in a bar I asked the bar tender, in German, if there was any other beer besides Koelsch. She looked at me as though I had 2 heads and said no...it was then I realized how particular Germans are about their stadt bier. BTW, our train passed right by the Koelnarena, a very beautiful and impressive building. Would have loved to have seen a game there. Zorin 03-30-2004, 11:18 AM rebeeler: You just hit a special point in the beer. There are only two towns in entire germany that are so keen on their beer. On the one hand you have cologne drinking and selling only Kölsch, on the other hand you have Düsseldorf where can get anything but Alt. There is some sort of strong rivalry between the towns (e.g. you will hardly find a signpost in entire cologne that shows you how to come to düsseldorf. And... we are talking of two towns which are just a few miles (i think about 10-15) apart! Not all germans are THAT crazy about their beer! ;) Zorin VanCanuck 03-31-2004, 03:52 AM rebeeler: You just hit a special point in the beer. The polarbears will be the german powerhouse for the years to come with Anschuetz, it's no surprise. I hope the Sharks will be back on track next year maybe with Christoph Brandner. Was written he might return to Europe next season because his agent said that his talents are lost in the minors. Well, at the beginning of the season he looked pretty good for the Wild but an ingury stopped him and after that he was not able to reach these performances again. Later than he was assigned to Houston. Mannheim signed Steve Kelly of the Monarchs for next season. He is a hard worker and describes himself as a power forward with smooth hands. Damn good move by the Eagels organisation. With the lookout next year in NA it's possible that superstars like JR, Heatly or Jagr look for some teams to play for. Hamburg and Berlin will be top notch adresses for the LA Kings. Finally I like Koelsch mutch better and Cologne is the most beautiful town besides OTTAWA. :D See you............................................... ... Zorin 03-31-2004, 08:52 AM Berlin already dominated the league last year but they ran into a hot goalie in the semis. That was the point. This year they are focussed, they are ready, they all contribute. I don't see a team to beat them. But for years to come?! I don't really know that. They participate in the Kings' scouting, thats the big advantage. But apart from that? They are bound to bring in profit. All other teams are fighting for a balanced result. They dont get money from Anschütz! What they do have is a great coach. Page makes up for alot. Only Nürnberg and Maybe Hamburg have a coach similarly good. The rest lacks something in that respect. And YES, I took Hans Zach into consideration here. I don't consider him to be as good as the three mentioned above. Coming to the money Berlin definately doesn't have more to spend then Mannheim or Cologne. They have a good management. Thats the point. But the league is so balanced.... There are at least 5-6 Teams that could beat them in a playoff-Series for years to come or in the regular season standings. His strictly defensive system is just not contemporary. Sure defense wins championchips but look at the Devils they improved their offensive core through trades and it just worked out for them. Cologne instead is missing a player like Berlin's Peterson or Mannheim's Edgerton who is able to carry the whole team on his shoulders. __________________________________________________ _________ The Sens win the CUP and i will die a happy man :lol Safir* 03-31-2004, 12:09 PM The Sens win the CUP and i will die a happy man :lol Right on, man. :yo: VanCanuck 04-03-2004, 01:31 AM Right on, man. :yo: The stanley cup is all filled up for the Sens who will win the drink!!! VanCanuck 04-13-2004, 04:15 AM Sulter was cut from the German roster and won't play in the World Championships. Team Germany has a very solid defense with Ludemann or Goc, Sulzer is a guy for the years to come. He has the potential to become a stellar performer once he is a complete package. Maybe in 2-3 years the Preds see him ready to come over, it's important for him to have some kiind of breakout season next year. __________________________________________________ ____ We'll fight back.... :sens danista 04-13-2004, 07:10 AM Goc won't play at the WC. VanCanuck 04-14-2004, 01:42 AM Goc won't play at the WC. And he won't play for the Sharks. Basically they're going to use him for practice.
