That is so sweet...I hope Loui turns into a sniper in the NHL....hey I gotta few questions....
Does Hagos compare to Ulf Dahlen? From what I have heard it sounds like he can play like Ulf along the boards, using his feet and strength and what not.
Ya think Granath and Kristofferson will make it in the NHL?

Yes he does and he is playing just great at the moment, to early to say about Granath, but Kristofferson has the right size and attitude for NHL
Ajacied 03-23-2004, 01:08 PM Hagos lacks the scoring upside to become anything more then a 3rd liner. I honestly do not see what's so special on the kid that makes him a top 15 prospect in Sweden. Hard work, dedication, all good, but sounds like a solid 4th line center to me, Manny Malhotra part II.

Hagos was the 8th highest scoring prospect in the SEL, and he is among the best of Swedish prospects when considering defensive coverage and physical play. His style of play would not be out of place in the NHL.
That is why he's a Top 15 prospect.

Hagos had 10 points in his rookie season, 2 years later he managed to score 20, but this is with increased icetime and with more games played. I'd like to think he pretty much hit his peak, offensively speaking, playing in Sweden. This should translate into mere checking line numbers in Dallas, something we aren't exactly dying for. Unless he has Peca like defense and grit, or even upside, I don't have him in high regards. A hard working, defensive specialist isn't exactly a rare breed. I actually do regret this pick, just yet another 3rd line center with not enough offensive upside.

What makes you think this? This is his first season back in the SEL after two in the second tier, and he's only 21 years old (on Saturday). Do you watch him play regularly enough to say he won't develop any more scoring?
BTW, did you know that at the same age Magnus Kahnberg had only 14 points in 50 games played? This year he led the SEL in scoring. Just goes to show that writing off a player's development around 21 is rediculous. If you do that, Ott's a perennial 10 point scorer, and Daley's a defensive liability that will struggle to put up 25 points a year on D.
Now, I don't think we've got a SEL leading scorer on our hands (but with the way Viuhkola burst out in the SM-Liiga this year, who knows). I highly doubt he's done progressing offensively, especially judging by what I've seen with my own two eyes, not by judging stats.

Sure, he's almost certainly a checking line player. Still, I don't exactly see many other checking line players that have NHL talent in the immediate system. I'd go so far as to say that none of Utah's forwards outside of Miettinen and Tjarnqvist really have an NHL future. The Stars will need Hagos once the DiMaios, Corsons, etc. begin to filter out (looks as early as next year). No one says he has to stay at center.

Sometimes I forget how naïve fans are. When you hit on a player that can be a player on your team in the third round or later, it is a good pick, no matter whether they go on to be a star or not. It's not rare for third round players to become quality NHLers (or even star players), but it's hardly guaranteed. I'd guess half never play in the NHL and about 60% never have anything more than a fringe NHL career, and I'm probably being generous.
I honestly do not see what's so special on the kid that makes him a top 15 prospect in Sweden.
It could be because Sweden's prospect depth isn't what it used to be.
Starsdude 03-23-2004, 08:57 PM I tend to agree with GLU. If Hagos is even a solid 4th liner, that is a good third round pick. In the post CBA world, there will be some importance on developing your own younger players and like GLU only Miets and Tjarnqvist look to have an NHL future among Utah's forwards. Jokinin , Polak, Eriksson, polak all might later but clearly in different roles than Hagos

I can see Hagos coming over and being a solid 3rd or 4th line player with us. From what I've seen and heard from him, he is very good hockey player at both ends.
Robertsson 4-ever 03-25-2004, 04:18 AM Hagos has very good vision and is a good passer, with potential to be a great passer. Is also a pretty good shooter.
And very strong along the boards, an a good at faceoffs as well. A player who works all night to get his job done, and he does it well. Didn't stood out when I watched him yesterday but still made a solid game. Could very well sign a contract for the next season, but probably will need one (or two) seasons in the AHL. He seem to always be on the right place, and i can take a while to adjust that in the NA rinks.
