Ellis, can you list the GMs in the first post as well so it's easy to tell who to PM next?

Just a reminder, as with all ATDs please do not mention undrafted players by name. If you are using them in your write-up, make sure to censor the names--even if you don't think they'll be selected anyways.

Football might be the one sport where the first pick could go in so many different ways simply because there are so many positions and ways to build your team. But I'm a firm believer in starting with the defense, and as such...

The Buffalo Bills are proud to select with the 1st overall pick:

ROLB Lawrence Taylor

(In the interest of getting this show on the road, my write-up will be added once I have time to do it).

#2 - Dallas Cowboys select - Jim Brown RB

Wanted Taylor bad but had a strong feeling he was going to go no1 as there is such a big gap between him and the next defensive guy. IMO Jim Brown is the best player ever however.

9 Pro Bowl selections
8 1st Team All Pro selections (1 2nd Team All Pro)
NFL 75th Anniversary All-Time Team
NFL 1960s All-Decade Team
3× NFL MVP (1957, 1958, 1965)
3× UPI NFL MVP (1958, 1963, 1965)
3× Pro Bowl MVP (1961, 1962, 1965)

Rushing yards: 12312 (8th all-time)
Rushing TDs: 106 (5th all-time)
Yards per carry: 5.2 (15th all-time)
Rushing yards per game: 104.3 (2nd all-time)
Touchdowns: 126 (10th all-time)
Yards from scrimmage: 14811 (19th all-time)
All-purpose yards: 15459(20th all-time)

Let's not forget that Brown shocked everyone by retiring still in his prime years.

For what's it worth Jim Brown is also a member of Lacrosse HOF.

i know this is arguably the deepest position in the draft however, i couldn't pass up on this pick. not only can i pick one of the cornerstones of my favourite team but, also my all-time favourite player growing up.

the cleveland browns are pleased to select...

joe montana -- quarterback

Joe Montana, selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round of the 1979 National Football League Draft, had a stellar career with the 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs. A master of late-game comebacks, Montana directed his teams to 31 fourth quarter come-from-behind wins during his illustrious career, including a 92-yard drive in the closing seconds of Super Bowl XXIII.

His uncanny ability to bring a team back from apparent defeat was so common that it simply became referred to as “Montana Magic.” A true student of the game, Montana won the NFL’s passing title in both 1987 and 1989. He topped the NFC in passing five times (1981, 1984, 1985, 1987, and 1989).

Thirty-nine times he passed for more than 300 yards in a game, including seven times in which he surpassed 400 yards. His six 300-yard passing performances in the post-season are an NFL record. He also owns the career playoff record for attempts, completions, touchdowns, and yards gained passing.

Eleven times the New Eagle, Pennsylvania native led his team to the playoffs. Along the way, he captured nine divisional championships and victories in Super Bowls XVI, XIX, XXIII, and XXIV. His outstanding play in Super Bowls XVI, XIX, and XXIV earned him Most Valuable Player honors in each game.

Named All-NFL three times and All-NFC on five occasions, Montana was voted to the Pro Bowl eight times, which was a league record for a quarterback at the time. In 1992, after missing 31 consecutive games due to an injury to his throwing arm, Montana made a dramatic comeback. In the second half of the regular season finale, a Monday Night Football offering vs. the Detroit Lions, Montana performed his magic of old, completing 15 of 21 passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns as the 49ers defeated the Lions 24-6.

In 1994 Montana became just the fifth quarterback to pass for more than 40,000 yards in a career. At the time of his retirement, he ranked fourth in career passing yardage (40,551 yards), attempts (5,391), and passing touchdowns (273). His 3,409 completions ranked third all-time, and his career passer rating of 92.3 was second all-time.

His gunslinger name fit the calm, calculating manner in which he shot down opposing defenses. It was part of the Joe Montana charisma, a mystique that permeated the NFL for 15 successful seasons. He was Joe Cool, the man who revived a franchise, carved out a Super Bowl legacy and built a reputation as the greatest pressure quarterback of all time.

Montana was a football surgeon, an artist who could carve up a defense with patience and relentless precision. His arm strength and speed were only slightly above average, but his quick feet and quicker mind were perfect matches for San Francisco and coach xxx xxx complicated short-passing offense. He seemed to have a sixth sense that allowed him to evade rushers and could throw on the run with uncanny, mistake-free accuracy.

awards & accomplishments:

-"Over" 30 Career Interceptions (stat only between 1940-1945)

http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/member.aspx?PLAYER_ID=104
Hutson invented modern pass receiving. He created Z-outs, buttonhooks, hook-and-gos, and a whole catalog of moves and fakes. Although he had been an All-America at Alabama in 1934, there were plenty who doubted the skinny speedster could stand the pace of pro football. But it wasn't long before his mere presence on the field had changed the defensive concept of the game.

Don could outmaneuver and outrace virtually every defender in the league. He led the NFL in receiving in eight of his 11 seasons and in scoring five straight years. Twice, in 1941 and 1942, he was named the league’s MVP.

Like everyone in the days before free substitution, Hutson was a 60-minute player who spent most of his career as a very fine safety on defense. In his final six seasons, he swiped 30 opposing quarterbacks’ passes. Often after scoring a touchdown, he would kick the extra point. In one quarter of a 1945 game, he caught four touchdown passes and kicked five PATs for an amazing 29 points.

http://espn.go.com/sportscentury/features/00014269.html
Few teams threw the ball in 1935 unless they were desperate or wanted to surprise the opponent. Hutson was football's Copernicus, proving that the universe did not revolve around the run.

By the time he retired in 1945, passing was part of the game. As for the receiving part, nobody played the game like Hutson. Statistically, his only rivals weren't born when Hutson left the game.

He led the NFL in touchdowns eight times. More than 50 years later, nobody else has led the league more than three times.

He also led the league in catches a record eight times, including 1942, when he had a then-astonishing 74 receptions. His nearest rival caught 27 passes that season.

In nine seasons he was the top touchdown receiver in the league (Rice is second all-time with six). Amazingly, not only is Hutson listed first for most consecutive years (five) leading the NFL in touchdown catches, he also is second with four.

...

He began setting records when the NFL had nine teams and little offensive imagination. It was single-platoon football, and Hutson had 23 interceptions in his final four seasons as a defensive back. He also scored 193 career points as a place-kicker.

Hutson retired with 488 receptions and 7,991 yards. The second-place receiver had 190 catches and 3,309 yards. Hutson played in an era of 10- to 12-game seasons, so his records might have stood forever if he had the 16-game opportunities enjoyed today. As it was, Hutson was still an obvious choice to be a charter member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963.

I thought for sure Munoz would go higher than last year (#11)...but that's just me. The gap between him and the #2 O-lineman is pretty high IMO. Excellent pick.

Interesting comparing the first 10 picks of this year with the last ATD. White and Jones swap spots, and Lilly (OK, not top 10) moves up 6 places.

He is the best left tackle if not offensive lineman of all-time. If I'm starting a team, I'm starting it by putting the best offensive-lineman ever into the trenches.

IMO a great offensive line can make all the difference. it doesn't matter who you have at the skill positions if you don't have a line, and left tackle is obviously the most important. We were very pleased, and surprised when Mr. Munoz was still available at our pick.

You guys were asking for JCD, so I sent him a PM and he agreed to take Wild Thing's spot. Whenever he has a chance he can make up for that first missed pick.

-Steelers Team Captain for 8 Years
-You seriously don't want to piss this guy off, I mean just look at him.

http://steelersfootball.org/jack-lambert-middle-linebacker-hall-of-famer

During games, one could see him playing with his front teeth gone. Out in the public he’d wear his removable partial denture to conceal the 4 front upper teeth which were missing (knocked out while playing basketball during high school years). His toothless smirk/growl face during the games showed some of his known hard intensity which made him an all-pro/hall of fame linebacker for the famous Iron Curtain Pittsburgh Steeler defense. He was a hard, hard, hard hitter & intimidator – boy the league’s offenses knew it – wideout, halfback & qb, where the main targets of this wrath. In 1976, Stud Mean Joe Greene missed some games due to a back injury – thus vaulting Lambert to become the new leader of the Steelers vaunted Iron Curtain defense. That 1976 Steelers team is considered by many as the greatest defense of all time – leading the league in practically all defensive categories. The season didn’t start off so well, the team struggled to 1-4 record after QB _________ & other starters missed games due to injury – with practically 1/3rd of the season gone, most would think the season is over. Not so fast, the players decided in a player’s only meeting that the only way to succeed was to “the only way we are going to the playoffs to defend our title is to win them all from here out” spoken by Lambert. Thus the genesis of a 9 game ass-kicking run, the Iron Curtain defense was in shut down mode (shutting down the oppositions offenses that is). During the 9 game run – Steelers defense shut out 5 teams & only allowed a meager 2 TD’s (unbelievable then or now for that matter). The opponents averaged 3 points per game during this run – with the Steelers winning all 9 games. With a 10-4 record, they made the playoffs & capped off with a 21-17 win in Super Bowl X against (so-called America’s team) the Dallas Cowboys. No good deed goes unpunished, as the Lead dog in the Iron Curtain for 1976 was given his due, winning the 1976 NFL Defensive player of the year award. So awesome was that Steelers defense that of the 11 starters, 8 made the prow bowl that year (talk about talent on 1 side of the ball – scary).

Don't know why they keep calling it the 'Iron Curtain' though.

#75 forrest gregg -- offensive tackle

http://www.profootballhof.com/images/content/photos/1956gregg.jpg

Green Bay opponents called him masterful and frustrating. For Forrest Gregg, playing offensive tackle was all a matter of footwork and superior technique. Size was overrated. So was strength and power. Quickness was the name of his game and success was measured by his ability to do-si-do a bigger defensive end at the point of attack.

Nature dictated that finesse would play a major role in the life of the gruff, no-nonsense, straight-talking Gregg, who at 6-4 and 249 pounds was lighter and not as strong as the players he had to block. So he became a great technician...He worked hard on his footwork, learned about leverage and balance, studied film on opponents...He became the offensive anchor for one of the best teams ever assembled.

He seldom made a mistake on run-blocking assignments, he was tireless and he was very intelligent, the ultimate team leader whom Lombardi called "the finest player I ever coached."

With the durable Gregg (he played in 187 consecutive games for the Packers over 14 seasons) clearing the way, the great Packers of the '60s won five NFL championships (and two Super Bowls) in a seven-year period.

Even though, at 6-4 and 249 pounds, he was considered small for the job, he was ticketed from the start for the offensive right tackle position. Realizing that he would never be able to overpower the monstrous defensive left ends that would be pouring in on him, Forrest went right to work learning how to finesse them. He spent countless hours watching coaches’ films of the most noted stars. It wasn't long before he knew the moves of every opponent and had perfected ways to combat them.

Grr...I did not expect both Smith and Marchetti to be gone by my picks.

Well, with my two picks I will take CB Mel Blount and OT Art Shell.

With Blount, I get a premier CB who can lockdown an entire side of the field. Blount also had a knack for making huge plays when it mattered the most--in January.

Judging from last year's draft (and already a few picks in this year's), there's going to be a huge run on O-linemen before my next pick, and I want to make sure I get a solid guy at LT, and Shell fits the bill.

#19 lance alworth -- wide receiver
http://mvn.com/chargersconfidential/lance.jpg

He was Bambi, the bounding, graceful wide receiver who eluded defensive backs like a startled deer might flee from a hunter. His long, loping stride, dance-stepping footwork and leaping, twisting style brought beauty to a sport filled with beasts. Lance Alworth was the ultimate wide receiver of the 1960s, a crowd-pleasing showpiece for the AFL in its battle to gain football respectability.

He joined the San Diego Chargers in 1962 and quickly blossomed into the AFL's first true superstar. It was a perfect match: XXX XXX's high-powered vertical passing game with XXX XXX throwing to the speedy Alworth, who was explosive, fearless and acrobatic. He never met a defender he couldn't burn, and he never saw a pass he couldn't catch, thanks to his outstanding leaping ability and what XXX called "the greatest hands I've ever seen."

Throw in those big brown eyes, a Prince Valiant haircut, Hollywood good looks and the stylish clothes that became his trademark and you have star quality. Alworth made it all work over an 11-year career that produced 542 receptions for 10,266 yards and 85 touchdowns. He averaged a remarkable 18.9 yards per catch, recorded seven straight 1,000-yard seasons and caught at least one pass in every AFL game in which he played. His showcase season was 1965, when he caught 69 passes for 1,602 yards and 14 touchdowns -- averaging a whopping 23.2 yards per reception.

Alworth, who helped the Chargers win the 1963 AFL championship, spent his final two years in Dallas, where his free-wheeling style was restricted by a more-conservative offense. Still, the seven-time Pro Bowl selection played a prominent role for the 1971 team that won a league championship, and he caught a TD pass in a Super Bowl VI win over Miami.

Lance epitomized the glamorous, crowd-pleasing, deadly effective approach to football the Chargers exhibited in the early years of the AFL, enjoying nine exceptional years in San Diego before shifting to Dallas for a final two years with the 1971 and 1972 Cowboys. His patented leaping catches and blazing after-the-catch runs are legendary. Statistics many times are misleading, but in Alworth's case, they are not.

In 11 pro seasons, he caught 542 passes for 10,266 yards, an 18.94-yard average and 85 touchdowns. During his nine seasons with the Chargers, the graceful receiver averaged more than 50 catches and 1,000 yards per season.

He was named All-AFL seven straight years from 1963 to 1969 and played in the league's last seven All-Star games. He caught at least one pass in every AFL game he played, including a then-record 96 straight regular-season games and 105 in a row, if you count two AFL title games and seven All-Star appearances.

Great pick with Otto Graham. I'm surprised he lasted that long.

He was a first round pick last year.

I think though that QBs in general will go lower this year. There's just so much depth at QB at an all-time level, that once you get past the first 2 or 3 guys you can afford to wait until much, much later in the draft to pick one up, probably why Graham lasted as long as he did.

Regardless, I'd be happy to have Brady lead any team that I was involved with.

I think what it means is for sure you could have gotten better value for the pick, i.e. you could have waited a couple rounds and picked up Brady then, and grabbed someone at a different position now.

With Brady, you have a 3-time SB winner. But only 2 All-Pro (2nd team in 2005, 1st team in 2007) selection is probably the most notable number against him. He did lead the league in yards and TDs twice, and his career passer rating (although this isn't exactly a great measure --it's heavily biased towards modern QBs and in the top 20 only 4 are in the HOF, with another 3 [Brady, Manning, and yet-to-be-drafted player] headed there as well, with most of the guys not getting anywhere close to the HOF without buying a ticket) do work in his favor.

The Brady/Manning comparison I lean towards Manning. We're talking about contemporaries, and Manning was a 4-time 1st team All-Pro--all coming after Brady emerged on to the scene. I think it's pretty convincing that the regular season belongs to Manning. Clearly, Brady has him beat in playoff success though (although Manning's numbers aren't horrible), and that certainly does matter, especially in a context like the ATD:

Brady 14-3 W-L, 3954 yds, 26 TDs, 12 INTs, 88.0 rating
Manning 7-8 W-L, 4208 yds, 22 TDs, 17 INTs, 85.0 rating

Now obviously it can be hard to distinguish individual performance from team performance--how important is the fact that those Patriot teams were better (especially on defense) than the Colts teams. But also except for the Moss year, Brady has not had the same quality receivers as Manning did (Harrison, Wayne, and Clark were better than anything Brady had), and James was better than the myriad of RBs that Brady dealt with.

Another factor is that Manning has played longer than Brady--so he has more seasons under his belt and his body of work is just that much larger. And in an ATD, where we can't guess what a player is going to do in the future...that probably also favors Manning.

The gap certainly isn't huge between them, but it doesn't surprise me he wasn't taken last year given the gap between the top 10-15 QBs of all time once you get past the first few (Montana, Unitas, etc), and you could make cases for any of them really being in the top 5. I think really with QB it comes down to personal preference--there are several QBs I would rank above Brady who haven't been chosen yet.

I understand the point and maybe it was early but I really want to draft a team that I like. I understand the premise behind a draft like this - taking players based on their performance in the era in which they played and not comparing them to current or recent players as clearly a dominating OL in 1950 isn't as good as a dominating OL in the 90's, but if I were starting a team, after Montana, I'd likely take Brady above all others.

Don't worry, this doesn't mean I'll only be drafting favorites - (not a huge Ray Lewis fan BTW) but I took him because I feel he's among the best MLB's ever.

http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/member.aspx?PlayerId=274

In 1994, McDaniel was the leader of a rock solid offensive line that held opponents to just one sack every 22.7 pass attempts, the second-best ratio in team history. In 1996, coaches felt he was so talented that he could be used in ways other than just blocking. In a late season game against the Arizona Cardinals, McDaniel had two goal line carries. Then, in the Pro Bowl a couple months later, he caught a touchdown pass, becoming the first guard in AFC-NFC Pro Bowl history to accomplish such a feat.

The 1998 season was highlighted by the high-scoring attack of the Vikings offense that scored a then-record 556 points. Showing his skill at both pass and run blocking, McDaniel allowed only 1.5 sacks all season while clearing run lanes for Minnesota running backs to average 5.4 yards per carry on his side of the line.

After earning nine straight first-team all-pro selections (1990-98) and starting 13 consecutive playoff games for the Vikings, McDaniel joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for two final seasons (2000-01) before retiring from the NFL.
Adding to an already talented offense, McDaniel in his first season with the Bucs, helped pave the way for a team that rushed for 2,066 yards. That included a team single-game record 250 yards rushing against the Dallas Cowboys. For his efforts, McDaniel was named to his final Pro Bowl.

In all, McDaniel blocked for six different 1,000-yard rushers and five 3,000-yard passers during his 14-season career. Regarded as one of the finest offensive linemen in NFL history, McDaniel was named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 1990s.

http://m.kare11.com/news.jsp?key=134424

McDaniel owned a special mix of power and intelligence, too, as opponents could attest over 12 seasons with the Vikings and two with Tampa Bay.

"He'd block the mess out of you," said motormouth former _______ defensive tackle xxxxxx xxxx, who faced McDaniel many times but never was able to distract with his infamous trash talk. "I would either drag you into talking with me or I would make you hate me talking at you so much that I knew it bothered you. I couldn't do that to him. He wouldn't talk and wouldn't let me know that it was bothering him. He'd just keep playing, keep blocking."

....

The Vikings enjoyed watching him, too. He took over as their starter in the second game of his first season and became an anchor of one of the NFL's best offenses while playing the game within a game that exists at the line.

"The competition, I loved it," he said. "The offensive line, I loved that unit, playing as one. We were like brothers in there."

the cleveland browns are pleased to select...

#54 randy white -- defensive tackle

They called him "Manster" -- as in half-man, half-monster. Randy White didn't just beat up on offensive opponents, he destroyed them. He was a 6-4, 257-pound Jekyll-Hyde personality in a defensive tackle's body, a demon who could single-handedly dismantle game plans. To the Dallas fans he entertained every Sunday for 14 seasons, he was the second coming of Bob Lilly in the middle of the Doomsday Defense.

No right-thinking offensive coordinator could plan for Dallas without first neutralizing White, the former Outland Trophy winner from Maryland. That usually took two or three blockers -- good news for other Cowboys defenders. When opponents chose instead to run away from White, which they often did, he could chase them down with his surprising lateral quickness.

Off the field, White was quiet, shy and soft-spoken, an easy-living, easy-to-like man. On the field, he was "just plain mean," a reflection of the intensity that pushed him to 100 percent effort on every play. He also was the strongest man on the Cowboys' roster, the product of his obsession with weightlifting. His strength allowed him to shed blockers with ease and his quickness allowed him to rush the passer with a stop-me-if-you-can scorn. When big No. 54 broke through the line, quarterbacks had a serious decision to make -- quickly.

With White operating at peak efficiency from the right tackle slot, the Cowboys rolled to six championship game appearances and three Super Bowls from 1975 (his rookie year) through the 1982 season. The pass-rushing combination of White and end xxx xxx was so dominant in a Super Bowl XII victory over Denver that the two shared MVP honors -- a rare honor for defensive players. Equally impressive were the string of nine Pro Bowl appearances White earned (1977-1985) and the fact he missed only one game in his career.

As much as there's a drop off on great tackles I think there are even fewer Guards that are "great".

This is probably true...but (speaking generally, with Matthews you really get both) I feel it's more important to have a great tackle as opposed to a great guard. Although this could also depend on the kind of offense you want to run--simplistically guards matter more in the running game (either inside runs, or pulling to the outside), whereas tackles are more important in pass protection.

Love hearing that.

As much as there's a drop off on great tackles I think there are even fewer Guards that are "great".

That's my thinking as well, but I think there are some tackles who are underrated too.

Stole my pick. But I'm happy with my consolation prizes:

The Buffalo Bills take OG Larry Little and DE Jack Youngblood

Little played a key part in the high-powered running attack of the 1970's Dolphins while still being a fantastic pass blocker.

Youngblood is an excellent choice to build my defensive line around--this is a guy who played an entire playoffs with a broken fibula. And while sacks weren't kept as an official statistic prior to 1982, his 151.5 sacks would place him 4th all time.

“We got a great one,” **** said recently. “The thing about Willie is, I can’t think of any area that he needed to get better at.”

...

“Watching him in that first minicamp, I saw the moves and the quickness he had,” **** said. “A lot of offensive lineman are fat. Willie wasn’t fat … he was just a physically imposing guy. He had big shoulders and long arms. He was just a big man.

“The way he moved, that quickness and athletic ability and skill — that’s what impressed me the most,” he said. “That’s what made him such a great player. If I were starting a team right now, I’d take Willie.”

...

Roaf started all 189 games he played in, including 131 with the Saints.

“When you start talking about the quality left tackles that have played in this league, you have to include Willie in the conversation right off the bat,” former ______ coach **** ******* said. “You’ve got to put him in the upper echelon of the top four or five guys that ever played the position.”

The Bills take:

RB Eric Dickerson
OG Mike Munchak

Dickerson is the first offensive skill player the Bills have chosen, and is a great choice to build our offense around. While taking an RB this round wasn't my plan...just can't pass up on a 2,000 yard rusher like Dickerson who also set the playoff rushing record with 248 yards against the Cowboys.

Munchak will solidify the left side of our line with Art Shell, and with Little on the right side our offensive line is shaping up nicely. Munchak brings a combination of excellent pass blocking with strong run blocking.

2× Second-team All-Pro selection (1997, 1998)
Super Bowl champion (XXXVII)
NFL 1990s All-Decade Team
1999 NFL Defensive Player of the Year

Sapp is the only DT in NFL history to record 16+ sacks in a season, win a Super Bowl and win a Defensive Player of the Year Award. Sapp ranks 2nd all-time in sacks amongst DTs.

A lot of people seemed last year to think this was such a great value pick, so I got him later this time around...

I had been considering Largent for my last 3 picks...but a couple things pushed him down IMO.

1) Couldn't justify taking a WR so early with exception of Rice and Hutson. WRs are just hard to build an offense around IMO.
2) Only once a first team All-Pro, which for an elite receiver is a bit odd
3) Playoffs. Granted, the Seahawks weren't exactly the greatest team during his career, making the playoffs only 4 times during his career...but his stats in the few games he did play (7 games, 23 catches, 434 yards [62 yards/game], 4 TDs) aren't exactly inspiring.

That's fine, he played during Rice's time, and the All-Pro thing, even if it was once, he far and away had the 2nd most votes for the All-Decade team.

Anyways, I'm not terribly concerned about him being my #1 WR, because he isn't (although if someone made the right offer for him, he could be had).

Good pick. I'll PM the next GM.

And there's the guy I almost took over Earl Campbell. His stat line against "Mean" Joe Greene is amazing.

I just couldn't justify letting Campbell slide even more when I already had 2 o-lineman. I was hoping that by a slim chance Delamielleure would slide to me again.

17 seasons (Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints)
Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 1982
College Football Hall of Fame Class of 1985
2x NFL Champion
10x Pro Bowl Selection
10x NFL All-Pro (4x 1st Team)
1958 Pro Bowl MVP
NFL 1960s All-Decade Team
#81 retired by the Saints (sorta)
#91 retired by Tennessee Volunteers
205 Games
Former High-jump Champion
6 foot ****ing 8, 257 lbs

http://www.footballfoundation.org/news.php?id=758
Atkins retired with 205 NFL games played, a record at the time for a defensive lineman. Atkins made life hard for offensive linemen for 17 NFL seasons. He began his pro career in Cleveland and played two seasons. Atkins made his biggest splash with the Chicago Bears, where he played 12 seasons. No less authority than (his coach) called Atkins “the greatest defensive end who ever played the game.” Atkins wrapped up his career with a three-year stop in New Orleans. He played in four world’s championship games (pre-Super Bowl) and on two NFL title teams, the 1953 Browns and the 1963 Bears. He played in the Pro Bowl nine times. Atkins won the 1968 (cool trophy) Award for dedication to the game.

....

“He is the strongest man in football and also the biggest,” quarterback great **** ********* said. “When he rushes the passer with those oak tree arms of his way up in the air, he’s 12-feet tall. And if he gets to you, the world suddenly starts spinning.”

what are we doing with cleveland? OTC now, but they have missed their last few picks...what kind of time limit are they granted?

I'm up after them, and i'm really excited about actually making one of my own picks for the first time in a while...someone PM me with the official word

Interesting, because had I not taken Largent, this was my pick.
To be fair, I was surprised to see Eller still available when it came to my selection.

I appreciate the sentiment, and I really needed to make a selection on the O-line and he was the best available. I was considering Willie Brown but someone beat me to him. :sarcasm:

I would have beat you too him.

Had he been in front of OJ's Bronco the Juice would have escaped.:sarcasm:

Consecutive missed picks have turned into an issue it seems, which is disappointing to say the least as I've been more appreciative of the way these teams have been forming. I would think a consensus should be made; it makes no sense waiting another 10 hrs for someone who has yet to even address their make up picks.

I would be in favour of a reduced clock window for certain teams that have been M.I.A. I realize there is a drop to an 8 hr clock in round 10 but reducing the current window to 5 hrs for those who have missed consecutive picks and have yet to do their make ups should be fair for all parties involved.

I just sent one to him. They're both online so we'll see what's up. If we can't get a response from either, I say we see if Chaosrevolver (who wanted in earlier in this thread but didn't want to co-GM) will take over the team.

I'm for this too. If we keep skipping it might either create too big a talent gap or we'd be down a team.

As we can see, Adam sinister is stepping up to for Ellistoleafsnation on making the Chargers picks so we're good there.

My take on this whole missing consecutive picks would be this:

If a GM already has one missed pick that is in "pick anytime" status and they are now back on the clock for their next pick, the next GM in line should be able to proceed with their pick without waiting for the time limit to pass.

In that case, FlyersHomer DM03 would be able to make his pick now without waiting for Papershoes time limit to expire. It seems like a waste of time to wait for another pick to most likely expire. All the GMs here agreed to time limits and should be sending in lists if they're going to be gone for an extended period of time.

Thoughts?

Well right now Papershoes is the only GM MIA since Adam Sinister has surfaced for the Chargers.

Should we set a limit for his team, say if you miss 3 consecutive picks we try to find a replacement? Or do it after 2?

3. It's a few days for 3 picks to go buy, but you can miss 2 in only a couple of days if you're at either end on the round.

I'll let everyone know what I hear back.Or I could just say here....basically id much prefer starting with my own team..but since I cant I would be interested I guess. The first football ATD...I brought my knowledge all the way to the conference finals (I think..I know I was #1 seed)...so I enjoyed it alot. But you should know papershoes works some bad shifts and he always makes his picks up. He may just not have had enough time to scout his picks...he did it with the baseball ATD (10 skipped at one point) but still had a good team.

EDIT: How bout put me as paper's co..and ill make the picks. He and I get along really well and have a very good mutual respect for eachother through the hockey and baseball ATD's.

I like that idea. That way when he comes back around he can still be involved but in the meantime his team won't suffer because of the missed picks.

Everyone else okay with that? If so, Chaos you're up for three picks!

great picks!

my apologies for the skipped picks - i'm usually pretty realiable but, haven't really had much of an opportunity to research picks for the football draft (i have in-depth running lists for the hockey drafts so, i'm usually good to go for those).

FS - Willie Wood

http://www.thepackerpub.com/images/willie_wood_1963_43k6.jpg

Willie Wood is another of the talented athletes who teamed to give Green Bay pro football dominance in the 1960s.

Wood, who was born in Washington, D. C., won first- or second-team All-NFL honors nine times in a nine-year stretch from 1962 through the 1970 season. A Pro Bowl participant eight times, 1963, 1965 through 1971, Wood also played in six NFL championship games. The Packers won all but the first one in 1960.

Willie also was the starting free safety for Green Bay in Super Bowl I against the Kansas City Chiefs and Super Bowl II against the Oakland Raiders. His 50-yard interception return of a XXXXXXXX pass early in the third quarter of Super Bowl I broke open a close contest and paved the way for the Packers’ 35-10 triumph over the Chiefs.

Like many Packers who had a chance to handle the football, Wood compiled impressive statistics with 48 career interceptions, which he returned for 699 yards and two touchdowns. He won the NFL interception title in 1962 with nine steals. Doubling on the punt return team, Willie also won the league punt return championship with a 16.1-yard average in 1961. In 12 years, he carried back 187 punts for 1,391 yards and two touchdowns.

One of the most exceptional defensive players in NFL history...gained a reputation as one of the league's hardest hitters...Respected for his toughness and ability to play through injury.

He was our team's best tackler.

Major Accomplishments
* Pro Bowl Selection (1962, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970)
* First Team All-Pro Selection (1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1969)
