Dumb American question. Is this a college, high school, both? Couldn't find a website for the team and don't know in what league they play. What age is the team? I know their team does very well when they play US prep and junior teams (UCC won two holiday tournaments this year against top US teams) and several of their players have moved on to higher levels of hockey. I thought most promising players go to tier I or tier II. How does UCC fit in?

Yale just picked up last year's captain, Jean-Francois Boucher, who originally decided to go to Princeton but bolted when the Princeton coach was fired. Any comments on this guy. Princeton fans seem pretty bummed that they lost him to Yale.

Thanks in advance. :handclap:

Hey, UCC is actually a very strong prep school. Although I'm not quite sure of the whole situation you described, I do know that UCC is a prepschool, and often in Canada you will see prepschools called colleges for some reason. They are independant from what I know too.

UCC is basically a high school, but its a private school not funded by the government(or at least not all by the gov't, not totally sure on that part) but there is tution and they can offer scholarships to students for sports or academics. The level of play is usually pretty good, just below jr.b or teir 2. I think UCC is located outside of Toronto but not totally sure.

UCC is pretty much right in the middle of Toronto.
Tuition is ridiculously high. They have uniforms, too (the students, not just the players.)

UCC is a private school that started in the 1800's. The name college comes mostly from this age. It is a prestigious high school/prep school. It is located in Toronto, if you have ever seen the police academy movies, UCC was used for the police academy. It is probably the most expensive school in Ontario to send your kids. it has both Day students and boarders. I can't locate a page ont he hockey team, but the college website is www.uppercanadacollege.ca

Does anybody know the name of the tournaments they won (with a possible link), or the top teams they beat? I'd love to check it out. I know they lost to Shattuck this year, but that's about it.
Thanks in advance.

McKeen's posted this about Boucher (no CSS ranking) this week in their June draft section. Jean-Francois Boucher of Upper Canada College is wildcard to watch out for. The Yale recruit is a stocky power forward who exhibits outstanding drive, soft hands, good finishing skills and a considerable mean streak. Jean-Francois is the son of speedskaters Gaetan Boucher - a Canadian double gold winner at the Sarajevo Olympic games - and Karin Fleige. This kid leads by example and is a natural athlete.

Upper Canada College is a Prep School located in the centre of the city of Toronto. It is a day and boarding school for about 600 students from grades 8-12. The school also has a "Lower School (grades 1-7). All Canadian Prep Schools are called "College". UCC has a long tradition of excellent hockey teams. The 2003-2004 team was likely the school's best ever. They won three major Prep School tournaments (Lawrenceville, Tabor, and St. Andrew's) and lost only 3 of 51 games all year. They also finished first in their private school league and won the playoffs (defeating Nichols School from Buffalo two straight in their best-of-three series). The team has its own arena at the school and home games usually are played before a packed arena of student and alumni supporters. It's a great atmpsphere. The downside is that this past years team had 15 seniors, so 2004/05 will be a rough one for the team. They will be back at Lawrenceville and Tabor and the oppostion will likely get even for all the losses this past year. Of the team's 15 graduating players, 7 will be playing US College hockey next year, led by team captain JF Boucher (Yale). The team's nickname is "Blues".

The team's nickname is "Blues".What can the ECAC expect next year from Boucher? How does he compare with alum Olivier Bouchard who is an established ECAC player? Any other players moving on to NCAA D1?
