Richards gets owned for the second time in a row..

Great job Bieksa. Gave Richards a chance to redeem himself after last year, but let the punk know it was no fluke. Flyers' toughness is overrated.

If you're fighting against a Canuck and it's Bieksa or Rypien, be ready for that first punch. Just a tip.

I doubt other players find him all that intimidating though. But I always enjoy his cocky grin, it just screams "Yea, I'm awesome, wanna fight about it?"

rypien vs richards would have been a more even scrap no? mikes a little bigger but rypien is an animal, i would've loved to see him rip up richards.

Rypien is a better fighter than Bieksa I think. He would have definitely picked Richards apart with his boxing.

Rypien would dummy Richards. Richards sould have fought Bernier or something.

Hordichuck is the guy on the man who actually has done pre season training with Iceman, so I guess he has the name first if anyone.

GTFO. Seriously? Of course he would fight Crosby, but Crosby has never been willing to drop the gloves. Mike And Sid are actually friends off the ice and are always very "chippy" when they play, but they never go at it.

Richards did a good job fighting Ovechkin a few years ago.

He isn't a third liner anymore though, he doesn't need to get in fights.

Richards has never really impressed me with any of the fights ive seen from him in the NHL. at least he shows up.

pretty much, he isn't a fighter, but he isnt afraid of them

Richards did this out of irritation with how the team is playing. There are 4 or 5 guys on the roster who should have been doing the fighting instead of him.

That is what the punch is called, I can see that you were disappointed, look up Georges St. Pierre on youtube.

Its GSP's signature punch.

With Bieksa the Canucks look to have one of the best MMA style fighters in the NHL.

Rick Rypien gives the Canucks probably the best boxer in the NHL. No real surprise as he learned from one of the best - his father Wes, a Canadian Golden Gloves champion who still boxes.
If you think Rick Rypien is tough, you should see his old man, Wes, who's actually only 46 and still trains as a boxer.

"He was a Canadian Golden Gloves champion when he was 19 or 20," Rick Rypien said Wednesday, standing in the corner of the Vancouver Canucks dressing room at Joe Louis Arena. Rypien and Joe Louis -- perfect.

"He still works out to stay in shape and still shows me stuff," Rypien continued. "I'd have to give it to him on toughness."

On one hand I thought that was kinda lame. On the other it was neat for the novelty value.

A supeman punch is not very powerful, it' not a KO kind of punch and you set it up with a fake kick.

LOL @ Bieksa faking a kick in a hockey fight hahaha

An elbow is not fair game in a hockey fight, but punching is and just because Bieksa knew how to throw a MMA style punch doenst mean its not still a punch and generally accepted as part of a hockey fight.

Richards was the perfect person for him to throw it against, Bieksa knew thanks to last years fight that he could pretty much handle Richards in a fight easily and thus he thought he'd be a bit cocky and show up Richards with that punch.

Juice what a beauty.

Pretty funny that even when getting his butt kicked, you hear the word leadership. This guy seems like he's got it made. "Mike Richards just got a new stick from the bench, thats his way of saying "boys lets play some hockey" what a leader" or "Mike Richard's just drank some water, letting his team know they should be hydrated for the game". It's comical.

No, but if you know how to punch properly why not to use it in a fight? Especially when it's in your advantage.

lemme get some of what you're smokin'. Croz prefers sneak attacks and third man ins:help:. Richie squares up :handclap:

For the record, yes he got his ** kicked both years, but last year he was standing up fro Gagne who took a nasty (probably dirty) hit from Bieksa in the first minute. And of course we've sucked lately so this year I'm sure he was trying to jumpstart the squad.

Agreed...it was a punch. Different way of throwing one, but it was a punch. If it was an elbow/knee/kick, this would be a different story.

theres more than a few fans of mma in the league

http://www.mmaontap.com/mma/category/riley-cote/

when richie fights its usually to send a message to the team or to stand up for other players. with carcillo on his line now i think he can let those duties go to those better suited for it.
