eSabre 04-23-2004, 07:45 PM Austria 215, France 1
The French are able to hold Thomas Vanek to 213 goals.
fan75 04-23-2004, 08:37 PM 4-1 Austria.
ParisSaintGermain 04-23-2004, 09:18 PM I'll go on a limb and say that France win this one 2-1.
Courageous! Allez les bleus!
I go for 5-3 Austria BUT no goals for Vanek. :D
AEKaki 04-24-2004, 01:25 AM 4-2 Austria

luckyaustrian 04-24-2004, 07:33 AM Game is over. 6-0 austria and shutout for Divis! Great game! :yo:
MrRuin 04-24-2004, 07:55 AM If Vanek keeps playing like this he will not go back to MN but will be signed by Buffalo this summer.
:yo:
gopher 04-24-2004, 08:02 AM vanek is the man
vanek is the difference maker
AWESOME
OurGocIsAnAwesomeGoc 04-24-2004, 08:36 AM can anyone tell me how oliver setzinger played?
MrRuin 04-24-2004, 08:47 AM he played ok, had no shots on goal but his line was strong nevertheless. He took two unnecessary penalties though which could hurt against canada or switzerland...
He is playing on a line with Koch and Welser, each of them below 22 years old.

that's a shame to hear. he was easily one of the best forwards in nashville's camp. his speed and hands were nothing short of incredible..and he had some flashy moves, too. it's my understanding that he's committed to play in north america this fall, and i'm excited to see it.

setzinger has had one good scoring opportunity but huet was able to deflect the puck!!!
he played a solid game!
MrRuin 04-24-2004, 09:13 AM A better test will be the game against Canada tomorrow and Switzerland on tuesday.
France was no match in any category and were outplayed in every way.
It says a lot when the best player for France has been their goalie who allowed 6 goals...
Flyman 04-24-2004, 11:43 AM What a poor game from our national team! I watched the game via a Austrian channel. It was horrendous. I don't understand what happened to the team! No defense, poor attack. And Cristo (Huet) had been abndonned by his defense. He allows 6 goals, and he was clearly disgusted! :shakehead
Austria was beatable, it is a team we can beat with our skills. but this match was horrific.
If we play like that Tuesday against Canada, it will be a massacre...

i doubt that!
and don`t take me wrong, but what skills???
maybe the french had a bad day, but there is no way that
this team can beat the austrian squad ..... that was a really
poor performance .... this was pool b material!
note: vanek has more talent than the whole french team!
:shakehead

This team has all the tools to put on better performances. You're right, this was a bad day. I don't say we would have beaten you easily. Not at all. But I think our teams are close, and if the French would have played at their real level, the game would have been tighter.
We've got some quality players in the Rozenthal twins, in Bachet, etc. We have a NHL goalie in Huet.
But this team was outhere today, and you played really great.Congrats!
Btw, I agree, you are lucky to have a guy like Vanek with you. I follow him a bit since he was drafted. I hope he will make the Sabres next year. Good luck to him...

nice post, i have to agree!
good luck against switzerland!
ParisSaintGermain 04-24-2004, 01:29 PM Unfortunately, because France- the lone favourite in this tournament- has lost this first game, Switzerland and Canada will have to pay the price and get badly beaten by Les Bleus. :D
Naoned 04-24-2004, 08:11 PM :amazed: Ouch !
It's gonna be pretty hard to stay in group A with games like that.
