Seachd 04-28-2004, 11:40 AM I'd like to get a 2004 mock draft going here. Looking for dedicated posters to sign up (just dedicated enough to check your PMs, make your pick, and go multiple rounds, if possible). If you didn't get into Balej's draft, or even if you did, sign up here. I'd like to get 30 different posters, but I realize that'll be difficult. We'll start with one team each for now.
- I will PM whoever is on the clock to keep everyone informed.
- Trades are allowed, but only pick-for-pick trades in the 2004 draft only. (So two 2nds for a 1st, for example).
- I'll use the draft order I came up with from various sources (not perfect, but still pretty accurate).
- I'll take Edmonton, because I can. ;)
And please make your picks as soon as you find out it's your turn. It seems some people know it's their turn, hang around the boards for a while, and then leave without making their pick, which holds everything up. If you're working on a trade, then fine, but otherwise, don't hog the 12 hours, and make your pick as soon as you know.

Prussian_Blue 04-28-2004, 06:37 PM I'll take St. Louis (go figure), and I am also more than willing to go all nine rounds.
I'm concerned as to how you're going to keep this thing moving, though... most of these mocks start off like a house afire, and two weeks later, the first round is finally done.
Maybe a chat room or something? :dunno:

Well, that's my concern too. I guess all I can do is assure everyone that I'll do my part. I spend much more time on these boards than I should, so I'll be sending out PMs to everyone when their turns are up.
Other than that, I guess we just hope for the best that everyone makes their picks within a reasonable amount of time. That's why I'd prefer people who are very frequently on the boards. I guess we can always try to replace those that don't hold up their end of the deal.

Only 8 teams left. Sign up people!
Yeah, if you know someone who knows their stuff when it comes to the draft, tell them to come hear and sign up.
Gwyddbwyll 04-29-2004, 11:50 AM Its a bit annoying ducksflytogether tried starting one a few hours later and now both mocks are a few posters short. I guess we could try combining them or start allocating 2nd teams.
Negative Ghostrider 04-29-2004, 11:55 AM Why not? I'm not really up on late rounders right now, but I'll learn about them quick. :teach:
I'll take Dallas.
Seachd 04-29-2004, 02:49 PM Okay, in the interest of gettings thinks started, I'm going to hand out second teams. One condition though: if someone new wants to get in on the draft, we might have to agree to give them one of the second teams.
Anyway, if you want another team, just let me know.
Gwyddbwyll 04-29-2004, 02:57 PM I can take any second team but I'll pass on BOS or CAR if they go unclaimed since I dont know their prospects in depth beyond the top ones.
More than happy to give over any 2nd team to whoever wants to join for sure.
rupispupis 04-29-2004, 05:42 PM i can take a second team besides the hawks. let me know... I'll do my research.

Sure. Just let me know which team you'd like, and hopefully we can get this thing going soon.
tripledekehockey 04-29-2004, 07:15 PM i will take the minnesota wild
Edler Von Gud 04-29-2004, 10:35 PM I'll take TB (2nd favorite team) as well
TopGun12 04-30-2004, 12:07 AM I'll take Nashville as my second team.
Gwyddbwyll 04-30-2004, 03:11 AM Sure. Just let me know which team you'd like, and hopefully we can get this thing going soon.
I will take LA.. know them pretty well as they're in the Pac too.
That leaves TOR which I think you could handle and they have no 1st anyway which is probably why they're still unclaimed.
Edit - also Carolina hmm.
Hellström 04-30-2004, 05:30 AM Sure. Just let me know which team you'd like, and hopefully we can get this thing going soon.
I´ll do so :)
I´m excited to get this thing started :handclap:

Hitman* 04-30-2004, 03:16 PM With the 1st Overall Pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, the Washington Capitals select, from Dynamo Moscow of the Russian Elite League.....
Alexander Ovechkin
I can't believe he was still available!!!
No need to justify my choice here. What can I say, I'm a madman.
rupispupis 04-30-2004, 04:32 PM i'll take Carolina, if still available.
Seachd 04-30-2004, 04:42 PM i'll take Carolina, if still available.
Okay. If no one takes them when the pick rolls around, they're yours.

rupispupis 04-30-2004, 08:36 PM With the third overall pick, Chicago is proud to select the pimpled concussed kid from the Czech Republic, Center, Rostislav Olesz. :banghead:
Prussian_Blue 04-30-2004, 09:06 PM I can't believe that no one has taken the Leafs as yet...
Since they don't have a first-round pick, a situation that I as a long-suffering Blues fan am intimiately familiar with, I'll take them as my second team (they're probably my second-favorite team anyway).
If someone else comes along and wants El Leafos for their primary team, they're welcome to them, but otherwise, I'll take USA Blue and Canada Blue.

Sure. I was going to ask rupispupis if he wanted to take them, because I found an excellent poster for Carolina. But they don't pick for a while, so we have time to figure it out.
Slats432 04-30-2004, 10:12 PM The Columbus Blue Jackets are proud to select Cam Barker of the Medicine Hat Tigers.
Gwyddbwyll 05-01-2004, 04:25 AM The Phoenix Coyotes welcome Lauri Tukonen of Espoo Blues.
HockeyBurd 05-01-2004, 07:58 AM With the sixth selection in the draft, the New York Rangers are happy to select, Andrew Ladd, from the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL. :yo:
A difficult choice with Shremp and Radulov available. Some would expect Sather to risk hitting the homerun with Shremp but the character issues and his teams reluctance to give him minutes in the playoffs simply make him too much of a risk. In the end, Ladd is our franchise top 2 line left wing that the organization is starving for.
TheBrew 05-01-2004, 01:45 PM Flordia selects Robbie Shremp
Negative Ghostrider 05-01-2004, 06:09 PM The Dallas Stars are soliciting trade offers for their 1st round pick (20th overall). Willing to move down in return for a later 1st and a 2nd.
Seachd 05-01-2004, 09:07 PM I tried PMing Boondock, but his inbox is full, so hopefully he sees this soon.
rupispupis 05-01-2004, 10:33 PM The Dallas Stars are soliciting trade offers for their 1st round pick (20th overall). Willing to move down in return for a later 1st and a 2nd.
Chicago would like to propose a trade of your 1st (20) for Chicagos 2nd (NAS) and Chicago's 2nd (LA). :teach:
P.S. For those not familiar with how we got the picks: Sullivan was traded for the Nas 2nd, and Zhamnov was traded to Philly for LA 2nd, which Philly got in the Chechmanek deal.
Negative Ghostrider 05-01-2004, 11:29 PM I'll take it under advisement with the others I've received. I'll let you know as the round advances.
Anyone else interested in trading, either PM or post here.
HockeyBurd 05-02-2004, 08:01 AM Perhaps someone else should take over for Carolina. I can do it if absolutely necessary. Though I think rupispupis was willing to.
Negative Ghostrider 05-02-2004, 03:17 PM Ummmm.....does anyone have Carolina? I think everyone is waiting for someone else to pick for them. :dunno:
We seem to be at a standoff.... :banghead:
Seachd 05-02-2004, 03:22 PM I PMed rupispupis, because he volunteered earlier, so hopefully he'll pull through and we can get this thing moving again.
Boondock Saint 05-02-2004, 03:28 PM Sorry guys, I didn't realize my PM box was full....
After some long deliberation about a certain Russian forward who escalated his stock in the 2004 U-18's, the Carolina Hurricanes are pleased to announce that their first selection in the 2004 draft is defenseman A.J. Thelen from the NCAA.
Pwnasaurus 05-02-2004, 08:01 PM With the 9th overall pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim are pleased to select forward Alexander Radulov
monster_bertuzzi 05-02-2004, 10:11 PM With the 10th pick in the 2004 NHL entry draft, the Atlanta Thrashers are very pleased to select, defenceman Wes O'Neill. :yo:
Gwyddbwyll 05-03-2004, 04:57 AM Los Angeles were strongly rumored to have shopped their 11th overall pick to move down in the 1st, select Cory Schneider and pick up a second rounder. However talks have broken down and LA seriously considered two excellent forwards before making the expected pick:
Goalie Marek Schwarz, the little genius from Sparta Praha.
tripledekehockey 05-03-2004, 06:19 AM The Minnesota Wild are happy to select Wojtek Wolski, a 6'3 195 LW'er
Seachd 05-03-2004, 08:44 AM * Seachd is curious as to where he could move up if he offered Philly's first (#25) and Edmonton's 2nd (#44).
rupispupis 05-03-2004, 11:15 AM Picks on the block!!! :
Chicago has 4 2nd rnd picks (CHI, NAS, LA, DAL) and is looking to trade 2 of them
for a mid-late 1st round pick (20-26).
Your 1st round position would determine which 2 picks I would offer.
Negotiations are welcome... let's spice it up!
Thank you for your time, GMs.

I would have taken Schremp. From what I hear, Dale Hunter has no complaints with Robbie which shows me he is coachable. I have never seen Robbie play but everyone says he has a high upside. As long as he has a passion for the game, and seems coachable. Everyone at that level has to have some ego but even the great Jason Spezza requested a trade from his Junior team. I dont have enough information to call that request a character flaw.
free0717 05-03-2004, 09:56 PM The Dallas Stars are soliciting trade offers for their 1st round pick (20th overall). Willing to move down in return for a later 1st and a 2nd.
Rangers should do that deal if Valibek is still available at #20
HockeyBurd 05-03-2004, 10:45 PM With the 15th selection in the draft, the New York Rangers are happy to select, Drew Stafford, from the University of North Dakota of the WCHA. :handclap:
So I work out a deal ahead of time that would give me ample leg room to draft Valabik and Buffalo puts the kibosh on that. Good thing I have my safety pick of Picard. :banghead: But in the end we're happy to welcome Stafford who is a bargain at the 15th pick. He may not be exactly what the Rangers NEED but it's difficult to pass on him at the 15 spot. BPA IMHO.
HockeyBurd 05-03-2004, 11:03 PM I would have taken Schremp.
You and probably 90% of all Rangers fans. For me it's a very tight race between Schremp and Ladd at #6. Ladd may not have the flash of a Schremp but you'd be hard pressed to find an instance of somebody actually seeing Ladd play and not walking away a believer. And there are potential character issues with Schremp... http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam040427/chl_lon2-sun.html
A guy with his ability should be getting more time in the playoffs, not less. I'm sure it's overblown though and it's no big deal really. I'd be happy to pick either. I'm just not the gambler Sather is ;)
HockeyBurd 05-03-2004, 11:05 PM Rangers should do that deal if Valibek is still available at #20
Incredibly he wasn't even available at 15. I think an Islander fan is drafting for Buffalo. :D

Yep, Stafford and Wolski were the two forwards I had trouble passing on to select Schwarz for Los Angeles. You could have had Valabik at #11 though :)
Seachd 05-04-2004, 02:34 PM King Henry I's been on the clock almost 16 hours now. We'll give him some more time, but what do you guys want to do if someone fails to make their pick?

I'd be more than happy to draft for the Islanders
Seriously though, after a certain time has passed somebody reliable should make the pick.

Prussian_Blue 05-04-2004, 06:43 PM The Blues are looking to trade down in the first round, and offer their pick (on the clock now at #17) for a later first-round pick, and a second-round pick.

Okay, but it in the interest of "keepin' it real" (I don't know if this ever actually happens in the NHL), we'll just say the trade was made before the picks.
Prussian_Blue 05-04-2004, 09:08 PM << read this with a Finnish accent, as Jarmo Kekalainen will be making the announcement >>

I was set to make the offer whilst Carolina was on the clock but with some of the uncertainty early on of whether or not he'd be making the pick I thought it best to just hold off for a bit.
Cayouche5 05-05-2004, 02:13 PM Seachd aske me to pick for perez since he's not there:

Flames Draft Watcher 05-05-2004, 04:10 PM The Flames will take who we believe to be the best player available and that is...

(I'm sure the real life Flames scouts would be ecstatic to see Montoya fall to #19.)
Negative Ghostrider 05-05-2004, 05:28 PM With the 20th pick the Dallas Stars select F Dave Bolland

rupispupis 05-05-2004, 09:18 PM A trade has been made between NJ and CHI.

katodelder 05-05-2004, 11:38 PM I love how everyone posts their picks in the formal way teams would do it on draft day with "proud to select", mentioning the club team, and all that jazz.
So allow the Ottawa Senators to break the mold.
Crusty John Muckler steps up to the mic and clears his throat...
"Hey BRUCE... Ya you, Bruce GRAHAM... Get your fat 6'6", 220lb a*s over HERE! ... Hey, how ya doin', welcome to the Senators... NOW DROP DOWN AND GIVE TEN!!!"
TopGun12 05-06-2004, 12:20 AM With the 24th overall selection the Nashville Predators are proud to select Roman Voloshenko.
tripledekehockey 05-06-2004, 06:10 AM minnesota is looking to move their 3 4th round picks or their 2 3rd round picks or even their second round pick to move up in the draft
Seachd 05-06-2004, 09:01 AM The Oilers are happy to select, from Sparta Praha, Jakub Sindel.
Hemsky-type skill with a shoot-first attitude.
Because of definate lack of interest in a my proposition for a 1st rounder, the NYI are now looking to move up in the second round. Please make an offer!
Seachd 05-06-2004, 07:02 PM There doesn't seem to have been any life from Koltsov, but it looks like he's been on the boards a couple times today. So we'll give him a little longer before we do something with the pick.
Seachd 05-06-2004, 09:30 PM Well, it's been all day, and he hasn't made his pick yet. I've sent him at least one PM, and he should have gotten it, because it said he's been on the boards a couple times today.
So what should we do? Should I find another Canuck fan quickly, or should we try to decide on the best pick possible?
rupispupis 05-06-2004, 10:29 PM If we're going to go multiple rounds, we need to have a time limit.
I propose 12 hrs, and if no pick made, Seachd will make an objective and realistic pick.
...just my 2 c. :(
Negative Ghostrider 05-06-2004, 10:55 PM I concur on the time limit. It should be 12 hours from the posted time of the previous pick.
BUT I propose a three person committee that chooses for no-shows -- Seachd + 2 others. That would ensure objectivity (not implying that seachd wouldn't be if picking alone :D ). Make it so that 2 of the 3 must agree on the pick.
Anybody think we could make it work? :dunno:
Gwyddbwyll 05-07-2004, 02:26 AM There are lots of Canuck fans on here so Im sure somebody's willing to do it. Perhaps Mizral, BES etc..
Mizral 05-07-2004, 11:41 AM I was asked to make a pick by Seachd since Koltsov hasn't been around...
Vancouver Canucks select... Johan Fransson
Edler Von Gud 05-07-2004, 02:01 PM ****, I totally forgot about this thing, sorry. :help: I've been travelling the last couple days. Stupid ****ing bus ride from hell. Sorry for keeping things tied up.

Not a problem, but now I don't know what to do. Mizral went out of his way to make a pick, and I'd hate to override his choice... I'll be away for a few hours, but I'll try to decide what to do by the time I get back.
Seachd 05-07-2004, 02:44 PM We're starting to hear about players opting out now. But since we started before we really heard of anyone opting out, I think all players should be available.
Hitman* 05-07-2004, 03:33 PM THe Washington Capitals select, from Jokerit of the Finnish Elite League, defenseman:
Sami Lepistö
a bit of a risk, but he has some good offensive potential, after trading Gonchar, we need to start stocking the system.
zamboni 05-07-2004, 04:49 PM With the 25th pick, the San Jose Sharks select Lukas Kaspar.
Seachd 05-07-2004, 11:23 PM Koltsov, do you have your private messages turned on? Anyway, I guess we'd better keep Fransson as the Vancouver pick, because the draft has gone past that point.
But you're up with the Tampa pick.
Jason MacIsaac 05-08-2004, 02:59 AM I should be ready to pick in another month...:) This has to move faster.
HockeyBurd 05-08-2004, 09:06 AM I should be ready to pick in another month...:) This has to move faster.

corbanSOG 05-08-2004, 12:03 PM With the 25th pick, the San Jose Sharks select Lukas Kaspar.

Gee, I hate to come off as a complete jackass, but I received a request earlier. I'm sorry I wasn't here to announce it, but I'm away from home for a few days right now, and don't have as much access as I usually do.
Anyway, Lowetide asked if he could take Tampa, and he really knows his stuff. And so I'll leave the final decision for the Tampa pick up to him.

zamboni 05-08-2004, 10:43 PM Zamboni with the steal in the bottom of the 1st... :)
I really like Kaspar, and since I like the Sharks I follow them somewhat. I stress that they need a big winger in their system and Lukas would be a great fit there.
Gwyddbwyll 05-09-2004, 06:34 AM So Hitman is up with the last pick of the round.
Seachd could you update your first post to show the 2nd and 3rd rounds if possible?
Negative Ghostrider 05-09-2004, 05:08 PM This is taking WAY too long. :banghead:
It's now been over 24 hrs. since the last pick was made.
TopGun12 05-09-2004, 06:04 PM I think we should just make the pick for the caps. IMO they need d-men. Anyone else have any suggestions.
Jason MacIsaac 05-09-2004, 06:57 PM Washington takes Schultz. I am going to do this for every pick now :)
Seachd 05-09-2004, 10:23 PM Yep, a day is too long. But we can't be too impatient. There are times even I might be away for a while.
Okay, I'll choose two people to decide with me on picks that aren't made. So I'll take J-Mac and George B., if they want to, and hopefully we can make a quick decision. It looks like J-Mac thinks Washington should take Schultz, so I'll PM George and get his vote. We'll see if we can get this thing moving again.
Seachd 05-09-2004, 11:36 PM With a vote of 2-1, the Washington Capitals select Oscar Hedman from MoDo.

HockeyBurd 05-11-2004, 09:43 AM Are we still waiting on Hitman? I'm pretty sure he's not participating anymore. I could be wrong. He's definitely way past the 12 hour limit though. We gotta speed things up.
Seachd 05-11-2004, 01:01 PM Okay. Hitman isn't around to make his pick, and one third of the Missed Picks Committee :) isn't around either. So the next few people who let me know who they think Washington should pick will be taken into consideration, and then we can move on with this thing.
Slats432 05-11-2004, 01:19 PM I like the Finn...Petteri Nokelainen.
rupispupis 05-11-2004, 01:24 PM I like the Finn...Petteri Nokelainen.
I second that. Lets get moving.
HockeyBurd 05-11-2004, 01:26 PM Nokelainen is a good pick. After taking Hedman and Lepisto they'll pick a forward.
Seachd 05-11-2004, 01:48 PM I say Johannes Salmonsson, so right now it's at 3-1. I'll wait just a little bit more before making the pick.
Jason MacIsaac 05-11-2004, 01:59 PM Who's picking....as in which team? I didn't think we would have trouble 3 picks in a row.

Well, it technically hasn't been 3 in a row, because some people make their picks pretty quick.
We're on Washington's 2nd rounder... 33rd overall.

HockeyBurd 05-11-2004, 02:26 PM I say Johannes Salmonsson, so right now it's at 3-1. I'll wait just a little bit more before making the pick.
Salmonsson is obviously an early second round pick but I don't see them taking a chance on him with safer picks available and other LW's in the system such as Semin, Pettinger and Fleischmann. I say they go with a safer pick. Maybe they decide on taking a third defenseman in a row like Schultz. I believe that is their area of greatest need. But Nokelainen is a pretty safe all around pick.
Gwyddbwyll 05-11-2004, 02:29 PM Cant argue with Nokelainen.
Lets get moving :)

Smooth skateing defensmen's game has finally risen to its expected level after two injury filled seasons. He has been Ottawa's best defensmen down the stretch. His hero growing up is current Devils defensmen Scott Niedermayer. He makes great outlet passes and is very reliable in his own end. I was expecting Karsums to have been long gone by now. Very good pick.
s7ark 05-13-2004, 03:08 PM Wow! Seachd you are doing a great job for the Oilers, thanks. I would be thrilled if we drafted those players!!!
Jason MacIsaac 05-13-2004, 03:14 PM Ouch!
Well, maybe you know something we don't.
He got one of my third round selection goaltenders in Brown. I was actually going to use my 2nd rounder on him due to some tips.
Gwyddbwyll 05-13-2004, 05:02 PM Ouch!
Well, maybe you know something we don't.
I was hoping for Dubnyk and a defenseman like Wharton or Rogers but they were all gone. Red Line Report is pretty complimentary about Brown. Karsums is smallish but has lots of skill and character and he can skate.. I like that on a strong team he stepped up his play in the playoffs.
Xx Shadow xX 05-13-2004, 05:45 PM With the 54th pick, The Pittsburgh Penguins select Brian Bickell

What's wrong with Olesz?
Seachd 05-14-2004, 11:10 AM Okay, we should start taking votes for Ottawa's pick. The poster hasn't been on in a couple days.
Gwyddbwyll 05-14-2004, 11:41 AM OK I nominate Juraj Gracik
rupispupis 05-14-2004, 12:10 PM i nominate Mihail Yunkov.

Seachd 05-15-2004, 10:06 AM Sorry everyone! I'm in the process of fixing my massive mistake. So hopefully we can get going again.
Seachd 05-15-2004, 12:51 PM Whoa, time out here. The draft is officially on hold until I can get in touch with Hitman about his pick that I flubbed. Once he does that we can redo the last few picks (as the posters have been very forgiving).
FearTheFlyers 05-15-2004, 05:02 PM Whose pick is it? I desperately want to trade up.
Seachd 05-15-2004, 09:05 PM Okay, I'll start taking votes for Washington's pick now (to be fair to Bakos). I want to get this thing moving again.

Seachd 05-16-2004, 10:20 AM Are people only checking in here when I PM them now? One vote in thirteen hours... it's going to take a long time at that rate.
Lowetide 05-16-2004, 10:24 AM Well, I'd tell you who I think they should take but since the Lightning draft soonafter I don't think you should take my suggestion as being "credible." :D

Uh - surprising pick. I´ve heard strange opinions about him - some really good ones, some really bad ones. Sersen will be in my focus, to see what he can do in the long run.

Well, at this point in the third round, 6'2 205 lb defenseman that has some good skill and shows flashes of definite brilliance is worth a third rounder.(Along with some not so great moments and some holes that he needs to work on.) Not that the organization will be looking for him to step right in or anything but after a couple years development, Sersen may be a player.
