Look at :48 into the video. A player gets grabbed and he either gets pulled or he jumps into the bench.

This is why leagues in europe that have the same skill level as this is so much better. This isn't hockey, its ****ing MMA on skates. Its a shame really, Ive been told I have the talent to make single A, and actually have an opprutunity to furfill a life time dream of getting paid to play, but I have to act like an idiot on skates.

Idk....**** like this just pisses me off. Charging the other player bench??? Really??? WTF!?

I'd love to see you give Single A a shot...

This is the first time anything of the sort has happened in the SPHL. There isn't an inordinate amount of fights...it's actually a relatively clean league and the talent isn't half bad. I love guys like you without the balls to give it a shot, and then anonymously rip the guys who do...

Yeah, the SPHL isn't complete beer league hockey, it's filled with a lot of old double A guys, or guys who have played at that level before, not to mention there's some college, major junior, Junior A guys as well. It's not nearly as bad as the LNAH.

Yep. I go to a ton of SPHL games and its a lot of fun. Cheap exciting hockey. These kinds of brawls don't happen often but of course you have the people that assume its just another lnah type league.

Why is it referred to as Single A?
I'm not familiar with the American semi-pro leagues..
How much do these guys make?

No idea about the origins of the Single A, Double A, etc.. must be borrowed from baseball. But basically it's:

AHL = AAA
ECHL = AA
CHL, IHL, SPHL, etc = A (although CHL is probably right in between A and AA in terms of talent, IMO)

It's not really semi pro, it's professional. Most of these guys don't hold second jobs during the season. At least most leagues require this. I've heard SPHL guys only make 250-450 depending on how good you are, vet status etc.

It's hockey, stuff like this happens. If you are outraged by this, figure skating is better suited for you.

I agree.

I can never believe my eyes, when I hear (see) "hockey fans" crying over stuff like this.

Pretty good summary...guys will make anywhere between 225 and 600 depending on their stature and experience. For the most part their major expenses are taken care of...housing, food, drink, etc.

The CHL and IHL tend to be older players, SPHL tends to be younger guys fresh out of college or juniors, with exceptions. It's an exciting and affordable brand of hockey.

lowest level to get paid to play.

Not much really, just for the love of the game. If your good enough a chance to climb through the ranks. I believe I heard a story about a man that went through the SPHL and climbed up and actually became a bottom 6 player in the NHL. I dunno, could have been just gossip though.

Steve Macintyre played a few games in the WHA2, the league's which demise led to the start of the SPHL the next season. That's the closest I know of.

Amen. It's like when people are stunned to see Jim Playfair have a tantrum on the bench. Hey, who cares? The only people that would be uptight about this are the ones that have no idea how the passion of a game can spill into something like this.

Honestly, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if the NHL had one of these
