i have to admit ive spent a lot of time reading the buffalo message boards the last few days... and i also have to admit i dont understand their hate for this guy.

i have loathed listening to buffalo telecasts for years because of their idiot announcer and his ridiculous goal calls for pominville. Has it all poisioned my view of the player though? Isnt he kind of good?

if the buffalo fan base succeeds in forcing them to trade pominville {not unlike we managed to do with kessel heh} would anyone here want this guy on our team besides myself?

I dont think hes ever had linemates the quality of Savard or Krecji to play with... and yet he has been a 25-30 goal scorer anyhow the past few years. His 5 million dollar contract sort of sucks but is there a 25-30 goal scoring ufa that would cost less for us to sign?

Buffalo actually seems to have been in desperate need for a PP QB... maybe they would view Wideman as an upgrade for their team needs?

Im not actually trying to figure out fair value here... but rather just wondering am I the only Bruin fan puzzled at the outright hatred being shown to Pominville over on their message board? He was even like their leading scorer in this playoff and they still have a couple treads personally dedicated to a hate on for him

Id probably be able to handle Edwards talking about the growing population of Pominville if he was a Bruin... although of course wed never employ an announcer that would be such an embarrasment as to make calls like that

and while im sort of giving off-hand compliments to the enemy anyhow... I am really warming to the idea of making an offer to Grier in UFA too. Thought this former Boston area college grad really did himself proud in this playoff against us and hes been a big time playoff performer in past years too. Would love to put the bug in Chiarellas ear that maybe Greir would look pretty darn good on our team next year if hes signing another deal around 1.5 or less

Ryder/Widman did look way better for us in this playoff then they did during the regular season... but for all the love we gave them Ryder still only produced 3 points in his 6 games. It wasnt exactly an awe-inspirng earth-shattering achievement. Wideman played very good hockey but was out-performed by Boychuck and I dare say Hunwick maybe played as well too.

I definitely dont think Boychuck or Hunwick are 4 million per year players either... so it was nice to see Ryder/Wideman step it up big time compared to their regular season efforts... but im not 100% sold we should keep either guy if trade options open up for these guys over the summer.

if Buffalo does deal Pominville I will get out front on the band wagon and hope he ends up here cause we need a RW with goal scoring ability and I do think Pominville is a better option then Frolov or Modin and would come way cheaper in a trade then Iginla or St Louis.

Thought the same thing. I was under the impression Pominville was well liked in Buffalo.

I always though Buffalo liked Pominville as well, but he sure did disappear in the playoffs. Vanek on one leg did 10x more than this guy the whole series.

As for Grier he would look good on this team. Signing him would mean bye-bye to Paille and Begin - which I would be fine with anyways.

Ryder had a decent series and hopefully raised his trade value from "lol lol lol lol lol", to "hmmm, maybe...". I think I would still like to see Wideman on this team. He's had 2 solid season prior to this one. I think this year he lost his confidence and wasn't able to get it back. I think in the playoffs aside from game 6, showed how good he can be. I think Chiarelli should take a chance on him next year and see what he can do. I really don't think if he did decide to trade him he'd get decent value for him anyway.

The dislike probably has a lot to do with his $5,300,000 price tag.

I like the guy, but that price tag is outrageous.

:amazed:

I think there's a case of overvaluing the hometown guy. I like him as a player but not at that kind of dough. Holy ****!

I like Grier and would welcome him on this team. Like others have said, Pominville is too expensive.

Was. The bloom is off the rose.

Eh, more like that there is no extra gear in Pominville's bag of tricks. What you see is what you get (like the backcheck on the third Bruin goal last night) -- he's steady and there is not much compete in him. As a complimentary player, great, and that was what he was when he was behind Dumont and Afinogenov on the depth chart. They made a mistake paying him that money to be a key guy. He's shown again that he's not.

weaponomega hit the nail on the head -- Vanek in three games and on one good pin did more that Pominville did in the whole series.

He's probably getting paid twice what he's worth, and if that wasn't bad enough, Darcy locked him up until 2014 in the panic after Drury and Briere left.

That's right. 4 more years of this clown in a Sabres jersey.

And he's just not very good. He can be a passenger on a good line if you can get him the right linemates, but he doesn't generate anything himself.

He doesn't go into the dirty areas of the ice - hence the nickname "Perimeterville".

He completely disappeared in the playoffs.

His trademark move is to come floating down the right wing and taking his sweet time firing off a big slapshot that everyone knows is coming, and that either hits the goalie in the crest, or misses the net entirely.

He was waived and not claimed once before, and I wouldn't shed any tears if he was waived again.

Unless you guys want him - if that's the case, he's all yours.

I actually thought he was pretty dangerous this series, and have always liked his game. Obviously he's not a $5 mil player, but he's worth $5 if Ryder is worth $4, that's for damn sure!!!

Nevertheless he scored a big goal against Tuuka in Game 5, and he obviously had the sweet setup for that Vanek goal last night. I thought he played pretty damn well, and I'd take him if his price wasn't so damn high.

The guy on that team that was flat out invisible was Roy, especially last night. Where the hell was that guy?

Roy and Connolly -- 3 combined assists for the series.:shakehead:amazed::help:

Between the money they're overpaying Pominville and Vanek, they could have squeezed in another 30 goal guy. I know the Vanek situation is unique, but when you look at who they might have gotten from Edmonton in the compensation package, Eberle + MPS + Gagner + Hall/Seguin beats the hell out of Vanek at 7.1M. That's a 40-goal scorer, a 30-goal scorer, a future 70-point center, and Hall/Seguin (or if you think Vanek would make a big difference, this pick would be 3-6) passed over in favor of a guy whose stats have gone nowhere but south since that season.

100% agree with what you said.

Roy was invisible, but Pominville played well. Maybe we can deal Ryder to the Sabres for Pominville? :D
