EUROPEAN SKATERS
129 Mathis Olimb
I figured I would cause a big riot in Trondheim had I not posted the Norwegian player ranked by CSS. Better to be safe than sorry.
For those interested, Olimb is a rather smallish forward (5'9") and has played for Manglerud in the top league in Norway. Olimb scored 5 goals and 7 assists in 29 games. Perhaps some Norwegian posters can fill us in :)
Seachd 05-12-2004, 08:49 PM Mathias Trygg probably could have been on there if he wasn't 5'8". :banghead:
Norseman 05-13-2004, 05:01 AM They call him the new Espn Knutsen. His stats are misleading since he played on the suckiest team ever in the league, but he has now signed for Vålerenga (one of the top-2 teams). I would be very surprised if he got selected in the draft though, since the skills he posess is not excatly what NHL clubs are after in the later rounds.

:joker: Funny.
It sucks though that Norway is moving backwards in their development in hockey. Damn it, it would be so fun if we had three nordic rivals instead of just two. But I don't think I will experience that in my life time.
Predatore 05-13-2004, 05:26 AM Slime,
Agreed. my biggest wish is that both Norway and Denmark would become competitive in the future. It seems Denmark is moving forward, but Norway.. not so much :( (at the moment).

how is iceland in hockey? ;)
but yes, denmark is showing signs of improvement. i'd like to see some danisch players to play in germany. but probably malmo is the nearest.
and is norway really stagnating? don't they have three trygg that play at least solid? and maybe they need olimb to succeed to improve their hockey. would be really nice.
and finland isn't competitive either. :joker: :joker: :joker:
Predatore 05-13-2004, 06:29 AM Well, Norway did look pretty good in the mid 90's I'd say. Some interesting players were popping up in Knutsen, Myrvold, Vikingstad, Magnussen, Skröder etc. Nothing spectacular with exception of Knutsen, but still players that can contribute on international level. Since then a lot hasn't happened though.
However, there are some interesting young players; Blue Jacket defenseman Tollefsen, Thoresen x2, Holtet .. but hardly enough depth to make the national team competitive.

maybe this young core of players can turn into good international performers as well. at least they would hold their level. and maybe olimb is really another knutsen. :)
Seiza 05-13-2004, 08:09 AM Holtet has been offered a contract from Färjestad this year, if he accepts he could see some 4th line ice time in the SEL next season.
Färjestad has Thoresen next year too, right? Or is that DIF?
Predatore 05-13-2004, 09:44 AM Dif has P. Thoresen, while S.Thoresen will be playing for Mörrum in the second tier league.
Riddarn 05-13-2004, 10:50 AM What about this guy Lars Erik Spets?
Norseman 05-18-2004, 05:52 AM What about this guy Lars Erik Spets?
Spets has signed for Trondheim, it will be exciting to see how he develops, he could turn out very well. My sources tells me that he is followed very closely from some clubs in NA (Probably ECHL teams). I also thinks he has the best style to play in NA.

"Mattias Olimb — We understand that it's hard to take a 5-foot-9, 154-pound Norwegian in the draft — but somebody really should."
"Norway's Mattias Olimb is so much fun to watch that you forget he's only 5-foot-9, 154 pounds. A magician with the puck, he was one of the top two or three pure stickhandlers in the whole tourney (U-18), and he continued to compete hard even after taking a pounding as a marked man."
Too bad he`s only 5`9...
Dr GLU 05-21-2004, 05:00 PM Holtet has been offered a contract from Färjestad this year, if he accepts he could see some 4th line ice time in the SEL next season.
I'm not sure he will accept anymore as it's being reported that the Stars have signed Holtet. The chances of him starting with the Stars (and maybe even in the AHL) are very, very slim, but I like the move.
I'm not sure if he's eligible to play in the AHL or ECHL next year since the leagues (I think) are instituting rules to keep certain players out of the leagues during a potential lockout. So, he probably will be in NA unless some sort of rule prevents him from playing in the minor leagues.
rangers 05-23-2004, 03:45 PM How does the comparison of a tiny Alex Kovalev stand?
More like Shampo. He doesn`t have AK`s shot...
