Hi guys. With the likely departure of Kaberle (haha, he never eludes us) I think Burke should be looking at a puckmover to temporarily fill a role similar to his. I like Corvo. I've seen him play a while and he does play quite a high-risk game (I know the huge knock on him are his giveaways, but he could play with more of a physical/defensively responsible guy in Gunnarsson/Schenn/Komisarek), but I've posted the numbers (giveaways/takeaways, plus/minus, average time on ice) because when you look at them he doesn't look too bad. Morris is also a guy who could do an OK job, and for comparison's sake I've posted the stats of our beloved White.

I'd like to know your opinions on the value of Corvo/Morris. I could see them getting a Seidenberg type deal, although they are quite a few years older than him.

I'm interested in these guys as they'll likely go cheaper than all of Hamhuis/Martin/Michalek, etc.. and are more puckmovers than minute munchers as those 3 mentioned guys are, which is preferably what we should be looking at with the likely departure of Kaberle.

Corvo was at a 2.6 cap last year. I could see him getting something similar. Maybe 2.3-2.7??

Morris was at a 3.3. Again, I could see him getting something similar. Maybe 2.6-2.9??

Phaneuf - Schenn
Gunnarsson - Corvo
Beauchemin-Komisarek

Well, he is an American...:dunno: Not a bad idea I would say. Not sure if he's a Burke type player and if leafs will have the cap space to sign him though.

With the way Corvo did in Carolina after being traded there I'd say he's probably more in the 3.0-3.5 million per range. He's not elite but puck moving defensemen are generally pretty well paid and he's likely going to cash in. Only way he doesn't is if he takes a discount to sign at a team. Only one I can see him doing that for is if he wants to return to Carolina and that's if Carolina wants him back.

True, could definitely see him getting a raise as well. There's a market for his kind. It's just he was injured this season. Anybody know if Burke/Wilson have ever considered Corvo for the national team at any point??

Ya, Morris is a guy whose destination may be a little more clear at this point. Man, this guy was something back in the day.

Didn't Corvo have problems with all the pressure of a Canadian market in Ottawa?

Can't see him signing here if that's the case.

Yup.

He's guy for teams like Carolina, Nashville, Dallas, Phoenix, Buffalo or Blue Jackets.

Good luck, Joe :).

I really don't remember his time there. So many defensemen have gone through Ottawa. I thought he played well with Washington, but that was a stacked team, and maybe he would have problems with the pressure to make the playoffs. He's one of those secondary puck-movers as well so maybe he couldn't handle the pressure of being the go-to guy. All good points. Hmmm, well other than Corvo/Morris any other guys you would be interested for puckmoving?? We really need a speedy defenseman with puck-skills for next year...

We've got a couple of big-all around, offensive guys in Beauchemin and Phaneuf.

We've got a couple of shutdown men in Schenn and Komisarek..

and Gunnarsson who is more of a mobile guy.

We need that puckmover.

Any near NHL-ready prospects that could possibly be packaged in a Kaberle deal? Maybe Eckford from Joisey??

Sekera from Buffalo? Though I think he's inconsistent, and hasn't proven he can even handle puck-moving at lower levels in my opinion. Butler?

Also, if Columbus is legitimately interested how about Regner??

I'd really like your opinions of anybody who has seen these guys play??
