Stej 11-20-2010, 11:08 PM Stressful... DestinationUnknown 11-20-2010, 11:08 PM Good sequence of saves by Garon Timeless Winter 11-20-2010, 11:09 PM Very encouraging that we didn't give up a goal in the last seconds there. Now we hope for a 3rd unlike last night's. leesmith 11-20-2010, 11:10 PM They've got Brass in pocket. That must make them a bunch of Pretenders. ClevelandJacketFan 11-20-2010, 11:10 PM Did Bill just say that Garon has an athletic mindset? What the hell does that even mean? :handclap::handclap::handclap::handclap::handclap: This game rocks so far. Keep it rolling into the 3rd. Socks 11-20-2010, 11:10 PM Was that Nasher's 10th or 11th? I've forgotten already. da,mn you Bud Light!! Stej 11-20-2010, 11:10 PM Very encouraging that we didn't give up a goal in the last seconds there. Now we hope for a 3rd unlike last night's. Ewww Socks 11-20-2010, 11:11 PM Very encouraging that we didn't give up a goal in the last seconds there. Now we hope for a 3rd unlike last night's. Agreed. CBJCougar 11-20-2010, 11:11 PM Great 2nd period but I'd like to see more than 9 SOG in the third by the Jackets. Of course, since one of those was in net, guess I can't complain. AND Klesla needs a raise. The man is a trOO work horse. Stej 11-20-2010, 11:12 PM Sounds cliche, but the boys have to leave it all on the ice this period. It's been a tough 4 days but it's time to empty the tank. Derby 11-20-2010, 11:12 PM I can live through another 3rd like last night, as long as we get the win. n8lhf 11-20-2010, 11:12 PM I don't think the problem is Vermette. Absolutely ;) Love that boy! He is a worker. Did I see that right? Did Nik just dump somebody?? *Drink!! CBJCougar 11-20-2010, 11:12 PM That must make them a bunch of Pretenders. Very good Lee!! :handclap: hip check 11-20-2010, 11:16 PM I don't think the problem is Vermette. He's not exactly lighting up the scoreboard this season. What do you think should change? Socks 11-20-2010, 11:16 PM Great 2nd period but I'd like to see more than 9 SOG in the third by the Jackets. Of course, since one of those was in net, guess I can't complain. What do you think should change? I wish I had an answer for that one. All I know is that the line hasn't gelled yet. My personal opinion is that it's a weird combination of styles that don't compliment one another. I can't look it up on this laptop, but I would be interested in where Vermette's numbers are in relation to the other 2. I agree that he isn't lighting the board up yet but I don't think he's alone. I think Juice is the missing piece and I think Umberger needs to be moved to the third line. Not an insult to him but rather an opportunity to strengthen another line in an area where Umberger can use his power. Bobcat110 11-20-2010, 11:26 PM Strap 'em on boys...should be wild 3rd. leesmith 11-20-2010, 11:27 PM Damn Casio keyboard! Not an insult to him but rather an opportunity to strengthen another line in an area where Umberger can use his power. I'm becoming more and more convinced that it doesn't matter where Umberger plays. He is steady no matter who he is lined with. If a Filatov-Vermette-Huselius line can prove to have a decent fore check (which I think would be the biggest weakness) I think they would be pretty decent. CBJCougar 11-20-2010, 11:30 PM Looked like to me that Umberger didn't do anything wrong. Shelley#45 11-20-2010, 11:32 PM Clark is slowly becoming one of my favorite players. If a Filatov-Vermette-Huselius line can prove to have a decent fore check (which I think would be the biggest weakness) I think they would be pretty decent. Yeah, I agree. You can pretty much put RJ anywhere and he will bring a positive performance. You're right about that leaving the 2nd line a finese kinda line without any grinder kinda of checking but I think you have to have both wingers matched up speed wise. One of the issues I see with Nik is that he is so fast and when he makes a pass that the other winger can't get to because they aren't as fast, it makes Nik look bad when he really isn't. Or I could be completely wrong!! Yep, we need the next goal. GOCBJ61 11-20-2010, 11:39 PM On of the things I like more about Nik this year is that he isn't shying away from the board battles. It's because his mom has been in Columbus with him and feeding him to make him stronger! Keep up the good work mom! CBJCougar 11-20-2010, 11:40 PM That was a BS call on Klesla!! Damn. hip check 11-20-2010, 11:40 PM How long can we keep going depending on our goalies like this so much? Last two games the goalies have been playing out of their minds. He'd have to do both effectively to make it work. leesmith 11-20-2010, 11:44 PM nice dive..felt some pressure on his back on goes all Pete Rose He put a dime on the Sharks to win? :sarcasm: Stej 11-20-2010, 11:45 PM Ugh. Bugg 11-20-2010, 11:49 PM Boll is really throwing the body around and shooting the puck. I'm not the biggest fan of him. But when he starts throwing the body it's really good to watch. CBJCougar 11-20-2010, 11:52 PM As much as i love a scrap not sure that was the right time to go for Boller. But o well ill enjoy it anyways  That wasn't really a scrap. CBJCougar 11-20-2010, 11:55 PM Coug, I gotta ssay, your boy may not always win the fight, but I love that he always is up for one! Thanks!! I'm really proud of him. I think he's growing up to be a real good man. He's working on his game and is smarter about scrapping. I see him sometimes talking smack now to draw the penalty and then skating away laughing at the other guy. Much smarter play. Now that last thing, he didn't start but he didn't back down either. Kinda like the team!! ;) CBJCougar 11-20-2010, 11:57 PM I think he broke his hand. He was breaking up a bag of ice in the penalty box and placed it on his hand. Who? Bugg 11-20-2010, 11:58 PM Nash's passing is underrated, but I think Jake's shot is really underrated. You give him some time and he really goes after the corners. There was a Nashville player (Sullivan?) who got a hat trick at Nationwide last year. IIRC there was one (Predators) hat thrown on the ice and Mike Todd openly mocked it during the next intermission. So. Yeah. Like everyone else has been saying, I don't think there's any shame in not throwing a hat on the ice for an opposing team's hat trick. Actually, if the players saw a bunch of CBJ hats on the ice for an opponent's hat trick, I'd expect they'd be pretty upset. CBJCougar 11-21-2010, 10:36 PM I guess I have no class cause if I was wearing a hat and someone scored a hat trick at an arena I was at, I would throw the damn hat down in respect for what just happened. It's not like it happens every game. I think any player who manages to score 3 goals during 60 minutes or more deserves a shower of caps and I did take offense at what I saw as Nash being snubbed with only 2 hats. Guess that makes me pissy. So be it. I don't think all of the hats tossed to Gretsky during his 50 hat tricks were all from his fans alone. Call me crazy but I don't think so. Sore Loser 11-21-2010, 11:14 PM what i was going for.... 5D5oKEVqQJg  You beat me to it, I REALLY wanted to post that video. I'll post this one instead: QJ882QYzr-M CapnCornelius 11-22-2010, 12:52 AM Now that I have the time, a more thorough game review... HP Pavilion has to be one of the most plain-vanilla arenas in the league. While certainly a step up as far as amentities and seating when compared to the earlier generation of arenas, it is also clear that this was very early on in the new wave of arena building. The Pavilion seems out-dated when compared to the likes of Nationwide Arena and Staples Center, and ranks below even the likes of The Pond, which I consider to be a fairly average facility. Credit to the Sharks fans for making it a loud environment, otherwise I'm not sure that I'd rank the arena particularly high. As for the game itself, here were some of the things that stood out: Chris Clark is playing very well right now. He's doing a lot of little things away from the puck that probably go unseen on TV such as taking away passing lanes. Never been a huge fan of Fedor Tyutin's, but he really brought his physical game with him to San Jose--he had a least 3 solid hits on the Sharks big forwards that sent them tumbling. The entire defense did a much better job of clearing out the crease and the slot than they did against the Kings and when the puck did get to a forward in those areas, the defense was not giving them room to breathe. And, much as it pains me to say it, Mike Commodore has played well the last two games doing exactly what Arniel wants--shooting the puck (he did also have a boneheaded turnover, but not a big deal in the grand scheme of things). Pahlsson seems to be back to playing at the level I remember from his time in Anaheim. Which would explain why the Jackets are currently top 5 in face off percentage and why their PK is just outside of the top 10. Fun Fact--the Jackets also have the fewest giveaways in the league. This is the sort of game I've been hoping to see from Rick Nash for a long time. He took over the game. In addition to the three goals, he had a few more scoring opportunities and the Sharks just didn't seem to have an answer to stop him. Garon was clearly on his game from beginning to end, nicely following up Mason's performance the previous night. Now, a couple minor "issues"... Andrew Murray is clearly not 100% into the swing of things. Clark fed him a couple nice passes which Murray badly misplayed. Nikita Filatov...I'm not sure he works well with Vermette and Umberger. To be honest, sometimes it looks like Vermette and Umberger are just doing their own thing and ignoring the kid entirely. He seems to be spending most of his time along the halfwall and in the corners (and not really using his speed to his advantage by constantly moving as I'd hope), when logic would tell you this is a guy who should be going to the slot. Much as I like RJ, I think it is worth trying Juice with Filatov and Vermette when Huselius is back in the lineup. I just think their style of play would work better together and having RJ and the third line wouldnt be all bad as he seemed to be able to still score from that line earlier in the season pete goegan 11-22-2010, 06:55 AM Much as I like RJ, I think it is worth trying Juice with Filatov and Vermette when Huselius is back in the lineup. I just think their style of play would work better together and having RJ and the third line wouldnt be all bad as he seemed to be able to still score from that line earlier in the season This is exactly how I see it, too. I have great respect for RJ's game, but I don't see it as a fit with Filatov and Vermette. I don't think RJ has the kind of passing skills that can set up his linemates - I think most of his assists are not sharp passes to create opportunites for them - it's just not his game. His straight line, crash and bang game is very valuable; but I don't see it as the necessary piece on that line. The Jackets will lose something, defensively, if he's replaced by Juice on Line 2; but his return to playing with Sammy and Moreau/Clark/Dorsett will make him no less effective. The addition of Huselius' passing and puck possession may be just what is needed to get Vermy and Nikki untracked and make them as dangerous as we'd hoped they'd be. Then again, I could be full of it. | ||
