OT: Beltran traded to Houston

Dotel then goes to Oakland for Mike Wood and Mark Teahan.

Why Houston gave up Dotel is beyond me, and the fact Oakland ended up with him. Yikes. Who is Houston's closer now? How does a team with all that pitching trade its closer and where does Biggio play now. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the Astros.

Good point about Biggio.. I guess he is a bench player now?

Houston got Weathers from the Mets last week.. so I guess he is the set-up man, while Brad Lidge closes.

Dotel was struggling.

Biggio will remain in center, and Beltran will likely play right field. The only thing that might move Biggio to another position would be his arm strength. Brad Lidge can do a good job also as a closer, and he's not that much of a step behind Dotel

I've only seen 3 Astros games on tv this year but many Astros fan on another board were getting frustrated with Dotel. He seemed to blow games or at least blow games when he had big leads. ALso before the trade happened I think someone said that he was no longer the closer. Lidge was doing a awesome job as the set up man....Also I heard Astros are unhappy with the offensive play of Ensberg(hence might sign Aaron Boone) but another option is to move Biggio to sencond base and then move Kent to 3rd Base. Also with Hidalgo gone Biggio may play RF and LAne back to the bench....I love this trade...Astros are gonna be the MLB champs this year!!!!!

If they end up re-signing Carlos long term,it'll be a huge steal.He's having an off year,but will rebound soon enough.

Wood was doing nothing in the organization anyway and the A's needed the bullpen help BAD!!!

dotel has been blowing some big games for them and they have by far the most dominating pen in baseball, brad lidge has been INCREDIBLE

Yeah. As I said earlier, I'm sure he will now close for Houston.

I dont know about moving BELTRAN. He is one of the best CFers in baseball, but Biggio has worked his a** off to learn CF.

We'll see I guess.

How many of you picked up Lidge in fanasty? I know i did which brings my Closers list to:
Smoltz
Benitez
Rivera
Wagner
Lidge

And I just picked up Beltran in my NL only fantasy league!! :gman:

Dotel has a great arm and damn electric stuff. IMO the A's won this deal.

Jose Mesa has a great arm, electric stuff.. being a closer has more to do with your head
